Daan Utsav Press Meet 2016, organised by The Hope Foundation India, in association with the Hotel Hindustan International was a grand affair in town! Students from top schools addressed the audience on how they would celebrate the joy of giving week with their "needy friends". We also saw few representatives from corporate houses, sharing their joy at celebrating Daan Utsav, back at their work place. Hope‟s flagship event this year - „Pujor Jama‟ for every child this Durga Puja has been a major success with the help of our valuable donors. We also felicitated our supporters for helping us achieve our goal, being our CSR partners. An IT giant celebrated Daan Utsav by doing Sandwich Seva for our younger lads at one of our protection homes for boys. South City International School donated "Pujor Jama" for our needy friends! Newsletter: October – December 2016

West Bengal celebrated Child Protection Day at Rabindra Sadan on 10th June 2016. The theme of the occasion was "stop child labour, start education." State Minister for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare - Ms. Shashi Panja expressed that every child should be ensured of his/her rights. Hope was invited for the event and our children had put up a mesmerizing show!

Mrs. Sangeeta Bajoria, a patron of Hope since years, donated Pujor Jama for 61 girls at one of our homes for younger girls.

Birla High School gifted children of one of our boys home brand new clothes for Pujas and treated them to yummy snacks.

Calcutta International School

warmly welcomed our kids for Daan

Ltd, DLF Rajarhat donated a

full month's grocery to one

of our protection homes

this Daan Utsav.

Mount Litera Zee School, Maheshtala and Dhulagarh celebrated DaanUtsav big time this year. They donated not just Pujor Jama but also stationery, educational materials, snacks and toys, with unquestionably

praiseworthy enthusiasm.

A global financial services company organised a sit and draw competition for our girls at one of our protection homes and awarded the winners with attractive prizes. They donated Pujor Jama for 39 girls and treated all the staff and children to delicious snacks and drinks.

Modern High School donated 478 Pujor Jama and 100 pairs of new shoes for girls this Daan Utsav.

Future Campus School helped us make our flagship event Pujor Jama a big success by donating beautiful dresses for the

less fortunate

Mr. Anand Agarwal, another patron of Hope donated new dresses for girls of various protection homes.

Tridhara Sammilani Puja Committee, the club renowned for organising Durga Puja in the city, donated Pujor Jama for 75 kids of Hope and treated 59 kids and staff to a sumptuous lunch.

Oxford University Press India - world's

largest university press with the widest

global presence, is helping us with

educational materials – 20,000 text

books and stationery items for all our in-

house children this year. Their brilliant

team, headed by Mr Sanjoy Majumder,

(East & North) came down from Delhi to

meet our kids and exchange ideas on

importance of education in today's era.

Some lively visitors from Vital for Children, UK were in Kolkata – meeting and interacting with children, from one project to another exchanging smiles, and spending some quality time with our children.

IndiGo - in addition to being on 'time' with

their flights, also intends to spend their

valuable time for a good cause.

In 2016, we saw their amiable crew

members engaging with our children, 5

months in a row, motivating kids to

complete their education and helping us

with nutritional and educational support

as well as sports goods.

Everest Industries organised an "Ann Daan" drive in their office premises for a week. Their contribution helped to run a home, for a month, which caters to 50+ children.

Kathy Wong, Chief Energy Officer at Moeloco has donated #1000shoesforIndia, to be distributed amongst our needy friends. Until now we have reached out more than 800 children, gifting them a bundle of surprise couriered for them direct from Australia.

Tom Mac Bean and David,

representing EDUCO, Ireland

visited our Life Skill Unit.

They had donated us the building in 2006, which today reaches out to 200 children, helping them inculcate values and train them to take up a vocation in future.

Our Life Skill Training Unit caters to Hope Cafe, tailoring classes, beauty parlor unit and computer training unit. Community children are trained in the field of their choice and are placed upon the completion of their course.

Trainees of Hope Kolkata Foundation - Café and Training Unit performed 'Heal the World' - a play based on the theme of the futility of war. It gave us immense pleasure to see the children perform in English, who considered it to be a difficult language until few days back.

Much thanks to their spoken English teacher, Sanjana Vakharia, who instilled the confidence in them. Founder Director, Maureen Forrest graced the occasion by her presence to motivate the kids.

Sukanya Chakrabarty from Oxford University Press India trained our special educators on "Inclusive Education - a gateway to effective learning".

Her teaching techniques along with excellent communication skills inspired our teachers to understand that the role of the teacher is to take the student to their self-learning phase.

Calcutta International School

initiated a Project Kindness for

Hope kids, where children were

taught any subject of their own

interest including dance, drama,

music, sports, art & craft, infact

anything under the sun! The idea

was to provide children an

opportunity to explore their talent.

Born 2 Help - a volunteer group

from organized 5 sessions on

Health & Hygiene so far with us -

2 in our protection homes and next

3 in Panchanantala, Dhakuria,

catering to 170 slum children. They

even donated toiletries to help

children practice what they learn

and also treated them to yummy

snacks.

Oyo - India's Largest

Branded Network of Hotels,

checked in at one of boys’

homes, to celebrate Diwali, in

the true spirit of the festival!

They gifted our children with

crackers, sport items, games

and chocolates bringing

beautiful glimmer in their eyes.

Oyo Kolkata team also

donated towards nutrition and

education of children.

Concentrix Kolkata visited one of our protection homes and donated stationeries to the girls. Here's a glimpse from the time spent and memories added.

ICICI Lombard conducted an

eye check-up for 130 children

and donated 15 pairs of specs

at one of our communities in

Howrah, as a part of their CSR

initiative. We try our best to

reach out to as many children as

possible with the help of such

kind corporate.

Quick Heal Technologies conducted their CSR activity at one of our protection homes. Our girls from Girl2B home were taken for the - first day, first show of a great biographical sports drama - Dangal by Aamir Khan official FC Kolkata!! They celebrated the release of the film - which shows the struggle and journey of world champion wrestlers - Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat. The idea was to inspire girls to fight for themselves and realise their strengths. Post movie, happy girls were given gifts for Christmas and were treated to sumptuous lunch.

On Dec 14th, we inaugurated The Hope

Skill Unit Chetla for the local youth with support from Concentrix India and The Hope Foundation. The unit would conduct computer training, interactive English and personality development classes catering to 30 children. We plan to reach out to 60 children in the coming quarter of the year. The container cum classroom set up would definitely lure our needy friends from the local slum community, to acquaint themselves with digital literacy, financial accounting and other vocational skills.

nd batch‟s

beauty training course.

care-givers and exchanged

The Tollygunge Club and The Hope Foundation India organised Golf for Hope - Edition II, on 18th

November

golfer Siddhi Kapoor to tee-off the tournament, at the club. Along with these two phenomenal players we also had

few children from Basa. The event focused on sponsoring girl child education. The charity fundraiser was graced by

The Hope Foundation celebrated their 17th Annual Cultural & Educational Programme, 2016 at Nazrul Mancha on 9th November 2016. It was a great opportunity for 3000 underprivileged children to come together and pay their heartfelt gratitude to St. Teresa with the theme – “Rhythm : The Spirit of Humanity”. Personalities gracing the Annual Day were Maureen Forrest, the Founder Director of The Hope Foundation, The Hope Foundation Ireland Board Members, Hope Yoga 2016 team, enthusiastic Hope supporters, Hope U Can Paint Team 2016 - Students & Staff from the Cork Life Centre & Terence Mc Sweeney College, Hope Himalayan Walkers Team led by Loretto Kennedy, Daveys Group, Hope Ambassador - Rose of Tralee - Ms Maggie Mc Eldowney, Mr Brian Flaganan, Mr Oliver Mcoy, Ms Anne Marie Murray, Asst. Overseas Director, Mrs Indrani Guha Brahma, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Kolkata, West Bengal, Smt Ananya Chatterjee Chakraborti, Chairperson West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Mr Supriyo Sarkar - Asst. We also presented a glance on our achievement in the last 17 years. This success would not have been possible without the support of donors, visitors, students, and volunteers; and most importantly 454 staff presently working with HOPE and thousands of ex-HOPE employees who have added value to the organisation.

Hope Kolkata Foundation‟s children were a part of Christmas celebration by Auris Hotel Kolkata. Her Highness Meeryung Hall sang Christmas carols and played games with the kids. Koneenica Bandyopadhyay was also there to encourage our children. Auris organised a lavish lunch for all followed by a surprise hamper from their bakery.
