NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2015 Happy Fall Y’all, October is one of my favorite months. The leaves and weather are changing, there’s apple picking, pumpkin carv- ing, and lots of great football every weekend. What’s not to love about this season? In September we enjoyed seeing families attend our Accelerated Reader (AR) Night. It was our largest turn out in the past three years. A huge thank you to Ms. Lorenzini, our librarian, for all the time and effort she puts into making this event bigger and better every time. Towards the end of the month we had our Annual Movie Night that is hosted by our PTO. This year the movie was shown on our new screen in the cafeteria! It was a lot of fun and laughs by all that attended. We rounded out September with a very touching and special visit from Mrs. Sandra Aragon Kruse. Mrs. Aragon Kruse came to visit from Chicago and spent a few hours in the build- ing visiting classrooms and talking with students. It was an absolute pleasure for all of us to share this amazing school with her that is named after her father, José Aragon. Be on the lookout for an article in the local paper next week about her visit. This time of year also brings our first round of parent/teacher conferences! This is a won- derful opportunity to have time with your child’s teacher/teachers and discuss academic strengths and character education. In order for Aragon students to reach their upmost po- tential, it is important to us to build a partnership with our families. This year conferences will be held on Thursday, October 8 th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, October 9 th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. In addition, first quarter report cards will be shared during these meetings. Please check your child’s folder or backpack for communication about scheduling your child’s parent/teacher conference. There are a lot more exciting events to participate in this month. Please take a look at our calendar to learn about our Red Ribbon spirit days, First Quarter Awards Assemblies, and our annual Storybook Character Day and parade. In addition, our kindergarten and first grade will have a fun filled trip to the pumpkin patch! Proudly serving Aragon, Mrs. Tracey Landrum - Principal

NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2015

Happy Fall Y’all,

October is one of my favorite months. The leaves and

weather are changing, there’s apple picking, pumpkin carv-

ing, and lots of great football every weekend. What’s not to

love about this season?

In September we enjoyed seeing families attend our Accelerated Reader (AR)

Night. It was our largest turn out in the past three years. A huge thank you to

Ms. Lorenzini, our librarian, for all the time and effort she puts into making

this event bigger and better every time. Towards the end of the month we had

our Annual Movie Night that is hosted by our PTO. This year the movie was

shown on our new screen in the cafeteria! It was a lot of fun and laughs by all

that attended.

We rounded out September with a very touching and special visit from Mrs. Sandra Aragon

Kruse. Mrs. Aragon Kruse came to visit from Chicago and spent a few hours in the build-

ing visiting classrooms and talking with students. It was an absolute pleasure for all of us to

share this amazing school with her that is named after her father, Jose Aragon. Be on the

lookout for an article in the local paper next week about her visit.

This time of year also brings our first round of parent/teacher conferences! This is a won-

derful opportunity to have time with your child’s teacher/teachers and discuss academic

strengths and character education. In order for Aragon students to reach their upmost po-

tential, it is important to us to build a partnership with our families. This year conferences

will be held on Thursday, October 8th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, October 9th from 8

a.m. to 12 p.m. In addition, first quarter report cards will be shared during these meetings.

Please check your child’s folder or backpack for communication about scheduling your

child’s parent/teacher conference.

There are a lot more exciting events to participate in this month. Please take a look at our

calendar to learn about our Red Ribbon spirit days, First Quarter Awards Assemblies, and

our annual Storybook Character Day and parade. In addition, our kindergarten and first

grade will have a fun filled trip to the pumpkin patch!

Proudly serving Aragon,

Mrs. Tracey Landrum - Principal

What a great start this school year has been. We appreciate you allowing us to feed your children.

We have a fun program go-ing on in the cafeteria.

We try to do “Trivia Day” at least once a week. We don’t have a set day but if there is a few minutes to spare on any day, we like to quiz the kiddos on all kinds of differ-ent things and then hand out a little prize to the win-ner. It is kind of fun for all of us!!

Have an awesome Alligator month!!!!

Your Kitchen Staff,

Ms. Barb, Ms. Erika, Ms. Helen, Ms. Anna, and Ms. Michelle

Thank you to all who participated in our first AR

Night of the year. I was amazed at the turnout and be-

lieve it was the largest AR Night we have had since I

have been here. I hope to see you all at our next AR

Night on November 19, 2015.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be

held from Monday, October 5th –

Friday, October 9th. Scholastic

has some new and exciting of-

ferings this fall. I hope you are

able to stop by to see the awe-

some books we will have for

sale and to say “Hello”. We will

be open during normal school hours and during Parent-

Teacher conferences. All proceeds from the book fair go

towards new books and supplies for the library.

Storybook Character Day will be celebrated on Fri-

day, October 30, 2015. More information on this yearly

event will be coming home closer to the date.

Parents in Action has become the Parent Teacher Organization! PTO

Meetings will be held the first Thursday of the month at 4:00 in the school library. The next one will be October 1, 2015 - 4:00 pm. All parents are welcome to join us to make our school

better.

COURAGE is our Keystone Character Trait for October.

What a perfect fit! I know it takes a lot of COURAGE for me to walk through all

those creepy haunted houses they have around town this month!

COURAGE comes in many different forms and people of all shapes and sizes, ag-

es and abilities can be courageous. When we hear the word COURAGE we often

think of the brave men and women in the armed forces and our police and firemen

and women who risk their lives day in and day out to protect ours. These people

are, of course, very courageous and should be recognized for their bravery, but

not all acts of COURAGE are always so obvious. What about the child who stands

up for a friend who is being bullied? Or someone who speaks up against injustice?

Are these acts of COURAGE not equally as important? I believe they are and I see

these small acts of COURAGE everyday here at Aragon. Sometimes doing the right

thing, speaking up or standing your ground in the face of adversity and peer pres-

sure can feel like the scariest moments in our lives, and it takes a ton of COURAGE

to stand strong in these moments. The more we practice COURAGE in these little

moments, the more courageous we become as people and as leaders for our

schools, our communities and for each other. The next time you see your opportuni-

ty to be courageous I challenge you to take it! I think you’ll be surprised at just

how brave you really are.

Be Courageous Alligators,

Ms.Ziemer, School Counselor

Character Trait of the Month

COLORADO is 400 miles across from one border to the other border. The Aragon students are going to track the

miles they run, move and play and try to cross Colorado border to border.

Childhood obesity is on the rise and we need to act now to help make our students stay healthy and competitive. When

you and your child walk, jog, run, or bike a mile count it. If your child does any activity or practice for an hour we can

count it as a mile and we can also count .5 for half hour sessions. Please record what your child has done when they are

home and send it to Mr. Vega at the end of the month on the calendar provided below to track progress and report it

monthly.
