School Review Update
This coming Tuesday (19th March) is the first of our School Review days. The first day (known as validation day) is where the review team examines all the great things we have been doing at Kerrimuir over the last four years. 24 students from grade 2 – 6 have been selected to be our focus students and will have an opportunity during the day to speak to the review team about their experiences at KPS. The reviewers will also be visiting classrooms and talking to students and teachers about what they are up to in the class.
Parent Teacher Conferences
A reminder that on Monday 25th March individual students, their parents and their teacher will have the opportunity to meet throughout the day for a parent teacher conference. During this time, students will be able to share their
achievements and future goals with their parents and teacher.
These conferences/discussions can be booked online
through Compass or be made at the school office.
Parents will be able to select their conference time from
12:00pm until 7:30pm, for a duration of 15 minutes.
Please note as approved by School Council there are no regular classes on this day and students are ONLY required
at school for the duration of the conference.
Cultural Understanding and Safety Training (CUST)
On our curriculum day this week the teaching and support staff participated in Cultural Understanding and Safety Training. This is an important Education Department initiative aimed at improving our knowledge of cultural heritage and incorporating it into our curriculum. The staff enjoyed a range
of tasty aboriginal inspired finger foods to celebrate the day.

Super Egg
For all new parents, Super Egg is a
long held tradition at Kerrimuir Primary
School which involves students
decorating/filling a plastic egg to roll
down a ramp in an egg race. Each
class has a race, and the winners of
each class go in a final race to become
the Super Egg Champion!
We also hold a “Kerrimuir Gift” during
the day which is based on the Stawell
Gift held every year over the Easter
long weekend.
Eggs are now available to be
purchased from your teacher.
Congruent: in agreement or harmony.
Example: His behaviour was congruent with his ideas.

What’s going on in 2B? During the first few days of 2019, students in 2B spent time getting to know one another. Completing autobiographical lap-books, holding a friendship scavenger hunt, crafting and comparing personal data cubes and coming up with a Class Charter for acceptable
conduct really helped bond everyone together.
We have thoroughly enjoyed playing Maths games to re-inforce classroom learning. Place Value Wars strengthened knowledge of numbers to 1000. Rounding Bingo helped us round up or down to the nearest 10 or 100.
This term in Science our topic is ‘All Mixed Up’ and we have worked collaboratively with 2A to experiment with different mixtures. We have asked questions, made predictions, observed and drawn conclusions from our results.
Eating the chocolate crackles we made was a definite highlight! We are currently looking forward to our upcoming incursion ‘The Lab’.

How are books selected for the Library?
There are quite a few strategies for selecting books. Here are just a few:
Constantly seeking recommendations from students regarding titles to purchase,
purchasing them and then promoting them as recommended titles. As adults we can’t
imagine all the kinds of reading materials that students could be interested in, nor be
aware of every great book (new or old) that is published and available.
Cover – The saying goes “You don’t judge a book by its cover!” but the fact is that
you do. The purpose of the cover is to entice the reader to pick the book off the
shelf. Authors don’t choose their own covers, publishers and marketers do, and an
author doesn’t always like the choice. Sometimes different covers are chosen to
attract different audiences, as when Harry Potter was released with different covers
for children and adults. The cover might suggest characters, story elements, genre,
reader age, reader gender or just reveal the author and title.
PARENTS please remember to discuss reading with your children as enthusiastically as
you do about other interests like sport, movies, games and things they may be
passionate about – legitimising reading as an important and vital aspect of the whole
package of our lives.
