Dear Parents and Guardians

Today St Jude’s School hosted a regional Spelling Bee

for students in year 4, 5 and 6 from Queen of Apostles,

St Jerome’s, St Munchin’s, Notre Dame, Star of the Sea,

Yidarra and St Benedict’s schools. It was an excellent

competition and demonstrated the high calibre of all of

the competitors from all of these schools. Our

representatives were:

Year 5 Paris Hoang, Sophia Lu, Benny Mangoba

(Reserve)

Year 4 Lara Delilkan, Caitlyn Pettersen, Benjamin

Heslop (Reserve)

We are thrilled to announce that Amanda D’Cruz

won the Spelling Bee Shield for Year 6.

Congratulations Amanda!!

I am also very happy to share with you the wonderful

compliments offered to the year four class after their

visit on Monday to their pen-pal friends in year four at

Our Lady of Lourdes in Nollamara. This is an excerpt

from the email I received from the principal of Our Lady

of Lourdes – “just wanted to send you a quick email to

say how wonderful your students were today. Their

impeccable. Together with your staff members who

attended, the children were glowing ambassadors for St

spend time with them. Please pass on my gratitude and

congratulations to your staff and students”. We feel very

proud of them and congratulate them on their wonderful

behaviour!

At this time of the year all classes are still very busy with

their learning programmes. As I move through the

classes, I am always very impressed to see the level of

integration of technology in the daily learning of the

students.

The use of computers, iPads, Interactive Boards and

Apple TV’s has enabled the widespread use within

classes of many learning applications and programmes

such as word, powerpoint, publisher, excel, iMovie,

garage-band and various others.

The enhancement to learning and engagement with

learning is a clear demonstration of the place of technology in today’s classrooms.

Our school has invested carefully in ensuring that

our technology infrastructure can support the

school’s many requirements for internet coverage

and usage, as well as keeping up with the prescribed

changes from the Catholic Education Office. We

have achieved a very high level of Operating system

currency with the introduction of Office 365,

Windows server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1, Apple

10.10 and IOS 8.1. We look forward to moving

towards a 1-1 laptop programme for our students

from year 4 to year 6, beginning with year 4

continued support for the purchase of iPads and to

the School Board for their support and endorsement

of our technology programme.

Once again, I remind parents that all staff members

at St Jude’s are very grateful for the support and

encouragement which is received throughout the

year from parents and friends of our school. We also

appreciate your support in filling the hamper

baskets for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal

– thank you for your generosity! As a small sign of

our appreciation, we would like to invite all parents

and helpers to a Thank You Morning Tea in the

hall on Friday 28th November at 10.00am,

immediately after the year 1 led whole school Mass

at 9.00 am. An invitation accompanies this

newsletter and we hope that you will be able to

come along.

Our year 4 class will lead the assembly this Friday –

see you there!

God bless

PRE PRIMARY

We are reading and writing our words. We are

writing and copying our words like big kids. We eat our 'recess' and lunch in the undercover

area.

We are playing in the Adventure playground with

some of the bigger kids and we love it!

Do you think we are NEARLY ready for Year One

yet?????We think we are!

Our Teacher thinks we are too, too clever.

We have a secret about the assembly on (Friday -

sshhhhhhh!!!) We might be singing with our Big

Buddies (Ssshhhhhh)

YEAR 2

This week in year 2 we have been talking about some of

the different theories surrounding the extinction of the

dinosaurs. Below are some of the reasons why we think

the dinosaurs became extinct.

Mercy: I think the dinosaurs died because the sun was

too hot and a volcano erupted at the same time!

Elijah: I think the dinosaurs died because there was a

flood and there were lots of sink holes.

Abbey: I think the dinosaurs died because it got really

hot and there was an earthquake!

Mekhi: I think the dinosaurs died because there was an

earthquake, volcanos erupting everywhere and asteroids

crashed into the earth!

Jevon: I think the dinosaurs died because there were

carnivores surrounding all of the plant eaters and when

comets crashed into the earth heaps of the baby

dinosaurs were crushed and killed.

Charlotte: I think the dinosaurs died from an

earthquake and an exploding volcano.

Gilang: I think the dinosaurs became extinct from an

earthquake and lots of crashing rocks killed all of the

dinosaurs.

Alena: I think the dinosaurs died because there was an

earthquake. Also the earth became very hot and all of

the water dried out which made the dinosaurs thirst to

death.

Julia: I think the dinosaurs died because a volcano

exploded and the sun was exploding too.

YEAR 4

This week in year Four we had the Privilege of

going to visit our Pen pals at Our Lady of Lourdes.

The day was filled with lots of fun activities and

we all enjoyed catching up with each other for the

day.

YEAR 4 (Continued)

The year fours at Our Lady of Lourdes put on a

Sausage Sizzle for lunch and gave us Freddo’s as we

left. We also got to experience how their classroom

works and even attended a sports lesson.

Over the year it has been fantastic getting to know

our Pen Pals and communicating with them by letter

or through iMovie and Skype. It has been lots of fun

as we have been able to share what we have been

doing in the classroom and at our school. It was a

fantastic opportunity and we hope to keep in

contact over time.

Just a reminder our school assembly is this Friday

the 21st of November hope to see you all there

Year 6 – The Graduation Class The Year 6 students of 2014 are becoming rather anxious and

excited about moving onto their new school locations. Below are

some of their thoughts about this transition beginning a new

stage in their education journey!

Chris – I feel excited but scared at the same time as there will

be lots of new faces.

Carol – I really don’t want to leave St Jude’s.

Savannah – I will feel nervous but so excited to meet new people.

Nisarg – I will feel sort of lonely as I will not have my friends

around

Man-Fai – I feel like I am leaving half the universe behind.

Mariam – It was short, but sweet.

Brenden – I am going to be scared because I will now become one

of the small people.

Grace – I wish I would have been here longer.

Connor – I wish I would stay with my friends forever. I hope that

the transition will be smooth and clean. I do hope that I reach

the pinnacle of my educational abilities whilst in secondary

school, as I have done in Year 6.

Dasy – I will feel sad leaving all my friends, including the crazy

ones, behind as I leave for secondary school.

Keely – I feel like I am leaving family behind as we are all so

interconnected.

Nathaniel – I am looking forward to the pool at St. Norbert’s.

Janae – Saying goodbye to my class mates will be like leaving my

family behind.

Justin – I hope that everyone in secondary school is as sweet as

my Year 6 class.

Manaz – It feels pretty sad leaving Ms. Mcloughlin.

Curtis – It is a bit sad leaving your friends. I wish they could

come to my secondary school.

Jade – I feel that the journey ahead is unpredictable, like trying

to guess all of the stars in the sky. I know that I will have some

friends from St Jude’s by my side. I have learnt so much this

year and I will lose a greater amount of what I care for as I

leave this school.
