READING AWARDS

Well done to our P/1/2/3 students who have

achieved another level of word recognition this

week. Great work!

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT SCHOOL ATHLETIC SPORTS

Mr. C was very excited that we were able to regain

the Emu Valley Cluster Athletic Sports Shield last

Friday at the Flora Hill Athletics Track.

Our students were able to put in a personal best

effort with many students achieving their highest personal score. Staff were very

pleased with the determination that our students competed with and the level of

sportsmanship and encouragement that was shown to both Axedale and

Eppalock students.

Angus and Katya proudly received the Shield on behalf of their school mates,

and spoke with poise and clarity at the presentation ceremony.

Congratulation to Abi, Zane, Jaeyln, Nadia, Anthony, Lincoln, Emily Matilda

and Mia who all earnt 21 points and received a gold medal for their efforts.

Ribbons for all students will be announced at Assembly next Monday.

INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS GRANT SUCCESS

Exciting news!!!

This week we have been notified that we have been successful with an Inclusive Schools Grant application

submitted in Term 2.

Our $70,000 project will see artificial grass installed around the deck and across to the playground, ground

markings to promote simple games and activities, a shade sail between the deck and the playground, a range

of outdoor furniture for the area and the installation of a small shipping crate with a roller door to house a

range of equipment and resources that will promote teamwork, group play and problem solving.

Work on the area will begin at some stage in the first half of next year.

MUSIC PROGRAM GRANT SUCCESS

We were also very excited with further grant application success last week.

Through the Heathcote Bendigo Bank Community Grants scheme, we were

successful in gaining a $3,000 grant to purchase materials to further enhance

our Music Program. The funds will be used to purchase new speakers, a new

mixer desk and a range of instruments to provide increased access for all

students.

Thank to Mr. Marsh for his work in putting the grant application together.

SWIMMING

A big well done to all of our students for their efforts at swimming this week.

We have again been very pleased to hear really positive feedback from the

instructors about the student’s listening, their work ethic, determination &

general behaviour. It has also been pleasing to see our older students helping out younger students with

shoelaces, hair, packing bags etc.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION –AXEDALE

Please find attached to the Newsletter today a list of emergency phone numbers for your fridge or family

notice board.

Thank you to Frances Ford from AOTOF for putting this together.

SCHOOL AND KINDER GOLF DAY

Our combined Axedale School and Axedale Kinder Golf Day was held last Sunday. We were blessed with a

perfect day of weather and were able to have almost a course full of players, some serious and others happy

to be there and enjoy the company of others.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the Committee – Liz Harrington, Katherine Simon, Tara Coffin-

Harrold, Tanya Czuczman, Ange Fiske-Kealy, Chloe Cavill & Trudi Jackson (Fosterville Mine). A huge

amount of time and planning was put into the Golf Day and each of them can be very proud of their

contribution to a successful day.

We are very pleased to inform the community that the day raised approx..$20,000 which will be shared

between the school and the pre-school.

Thank you to families who supported the day with raffle donations, raffle ticket purchases and providing food

for afternoon tea.

We had a great band of helpers to set up the day on Sunday morning and many who stayed on to work through

the day. A great team effort.

Congratulation to school captains Katya and Angus who were able to speak at presentation time to thank the

participants for their involvement in the day and to Amelia who thanked the participants and volunteers on

behalf of the pre-school students.

Funds raised will go towards the construction of the roof over our Netball Court.

MISSING UNIFORM

Daniel White in Grade 3 has lost his size 10 bomber jacket on the last Friday of Term 3. It has DW written

on the tag. Can families please check they haven’t picked up the wrong jacket. Thanks for your help.

LIBRARY BOOKS

We have a lot of books from the library which are missing. Can parents please check at home

and return any books ASAP for our library audit. Thanks for your help with this.

CITY OF GREATER BENDIGO

As part of the roadworks completed at Christmas time, COGB agreed to provide some plants for planting

out the garden beds next to our bus park. These plants arrived just prior to the holidays. We will be planting

them in over the next few weeks. A big thanks to Thomas A-W who has spent some of his lunch and recess

times pre-soaking the beds prior to planting. Great work Thomas – much appreciated.

GRADE 4/5/6 BIKE RIDE

Our Grade 4/5/6 one day Bike Hike will take place on Friday 30th November. Axedale Primary School will

be the start and finish point of the ride. We will be using the Bendigo Heathcote Rail Trail and riding to

Knowsley and return.

Parents are welcome to join the ride with the students.

Thank you to the parents who have offered to help out with support vehicles.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY

On the afternoon of Melbourne Cup Day, we will be holding a family picnic lunch from 1.00, followed by a

Hat Parade at 1.30pm. We will take part in some old time games/activities in rotating groups from 2.00

conducted by some of our senior students before watching the Melbourne Cup just before home time. Students

will be making special fancy hats as part of the Art Program over the coming weeks. Parents who are coming

along for the Picnic Lunch are welcome to bring picnic food along, or can enjoy some yummy sausages from

the BBQ at no cost. The school will set up shade tents and tables and chairs. Families may wish to bring along

a picnic rug.

Miss Mannes would like all students to bring along any sort of hat that is no longer needed. The hats will have

decorations added to them in the weeks leading up to Melbourne Cup Day.

We will also be holding a small plant stall on this day.

PREP PLANTS

Our Preps and Grade 1’s have been very busy planting and raising vegetable seeds. Their seedlings are now

growing and healthy and are for sale on our front verandah. Contact Ms. Saunders or Mrs. Tenace if

interested

PRINCIPAL RESIGNATION LETTER

Yesterday all families received a letter. A copy is below:

Dear Parents & Students,

I am writing to all school families today to inform you of my decision to resign from my position as the

Principal of Axedale Primary School; in December I will reach 55-age retirement.

I will continue in the Principal role until the end of the school year.

The Loddon Campaspe Regional Office, Department of Education & Training (DET), will have

responsibility for appointing an Acting Principal who will fill the role for Term 1 2019.

During Term 1 2019, a DET selection process involving School Council will be in place to appoint a

permanent Principal who will begin from the start of Term 2.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as the Principal and the last eight years have been very exciting as the

school has grown and the facilities developed.

Page 5: NEWSLETTER No. 34 October 25th 2018 - Axedale Primary School€¦ · Caleb – For being a kind and caring student who is always willing to share with others Zac – For showing improved

I could not have wished for a better group of staff to work alongside or a more supportive collection of

active and enthusiastic parents. We are lucky at Axedale to have had great groups of students over the

years. I have enjoyed watching them develop into fine young adults.

I look forward to the next 8 weeks which will no doubt be very busy and very rewarding.

Kind Regards

Lex Johnstone
