Our school is looking amazing. Over the past few years our School Council have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to have our teaching block toilets re- furbished. This is going ahead over the next few months. We will have new toilets, basins, taps, flooring, mirrors and fresh paint. Our students deserve to have clean, up to date toilet facilities and we are excited that we have been approved for this work to occur. Thank you to Cindy, Caren and School Council who supported in the process of applying to the Department for this work. Northfield is clearly a school of choice for our community and we are now operating above our capacity. Due to this, we are receiving two new classrooms over the April school holidays. They will be placed in the car part next to the big blue playground. We have designed them within the scope of work, to blend into our already beautiful grounds. The carpark will start to look like a building site in the next few weeks. It will not restrict any play areas and students will be able to see through the temporary fencing to watch the progress. Jamie Bowers class will letter drop a note to houses in the area notifying them of the building work. Exciting times ahead. Visitor to the school Last week we had a visitor on the schools' grounds. A Koala walked across the children's crossing on East Avenue, climbed over the fence and climbed up the gum tree next to the blue playground. A parent spotted her and contacted the Koala Rescue who informed us to keep an eye on her. If she becomes stressed, then we are to ring them otherwise we are to leave her alone. She was then spotted in the gum tree at the nature play area.

A WALK IN THE BUSH

Book Week 22nd

– 28th August 2020

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has announced the theme for book week — A Walk in the Bush.

This book highlights the beauty of the Australian bush. It’s a story about family. Grandad and Iggy enjoy exploring the bush, spotting various animals, talking about what they see and simply spending time together. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in Melbourne in 1942, Gwyn Perkins began his artistic career when he won a newspaper drawing prize of one guinea and a box of paints.

Year 6/7 Indoor Plant Project

Over the past 2 weeks, the year 6/7s have selected an indoor plant, explained how to care for it and delivered it to teachers, SSOs and Leadership. This was all apart of a big project that was planned by the science teachers.

We picked a group with 2 or 3 fellow classmates, selected a plant and a pot and researched information about our plant. These plants are used because they take toxins out of the air, make the air easier to breathe and also reduces stress and anxiety, which can improve work ethic, lift the mood and increase wellbeing.

We made a fact sheet explaining what the plant was, how to take care of it and any other information that the caretakers of our plants may need to know. Now our school is full of indoor plants.

Fringe Excursion Years 6/7

An Excursion to Remember!

The year 6/7s went on an excursion to the Adelaide Fringe. Four different groups took

public buses to get to the city. We walked a long way to Gluttony and we passed the

Rundle Mall and museums. When we first got to Gluttony we went through the entrance

gates, where Mr. Thomas took a big photo of us. After the photos we had a snack

because we were waiting for the other groups to get there. When all the year 6/7 groups

got to Gluttony we entered a big red and yellow tent and finally entered a big show

called ‘Hypnotised’.

When the year 6/7 group entered there was a big stage and lots of lights. While we were

waiting for the other people to get in the tent we were listening to some music. After the

tent was full the music turned of and we all sat on these little red seats, it was like the

cinemas. Finally, more music turned on and a man came up the stage called Isaac

Lomman. He was a professional hypnotist, he told us all about creativity and how to be

smart, he had 12 volunteers and tried to hypnotise them. Some of the parts where so

funny and some parts where interesting.

After the show we went to ‘The Giant Singalong’ an outdoor karaoke spot where there

are all of these microphones. We started singing the ‘Happy’ song along with some other

hits, the voice of our singing went through these big speakers and was so loud!

After going to Karaoke, we went to the Botanic Gardens and just relaxed there. We took

the opportunity to run around or just lie on the grass in peace. Lastly, we left for the bus

stop and waited for the buses to arrive. Mr. Thomas accidently took our group to the

wrong stop, so we had to run to the right stop! Thankfully, we made it in time.

We all had a great time at the excursion.
