Firstly, a big shout out to our wonderful crossing monitors, Betty and Robert who work hard to ensure the safety of us all. A reminder for us all however is that the crossing spaces are provided for pedestrian traffic - if you have a bike, please make sure that you dismount and walk across the crossing when directed. Also, remember that the crossings are provided for all of our safety, so please use these monitored spots as your entrance and exits from the school, remembering not to jaywalk away from the crossing. Secondly, thank you to everyone who came along to the wonderful Mother’s Day pancake breakfast – there is a special mention inside the newsletter about our fabulous parent helpers who made this a great success. Lastly, another wonderful week at KPS – we have been busily finalising NAPLAN tests and working hard on student performances for our upcoming Open Night and Education Week. We are thrilled at the amount of people we have booked to come on tours next week, and we look forward to showing off our vibrant community to visitors over the coming days. Enjoy the rest of your week everyone, and have a safe weekend. Acting Principal Jo Jolly

Prep enrolments for 2019

We are currently taking enrolments for current 4 year old Kindergarten students who turn 5 by April 30th, 2019 for the 2019 year. If any current school families have children ready for prep next year, please come to the school office to collect an enrolment form and Transition information. Transition begins in Term 3, so please get your forms in as soon as

possible.

If you know anyone nearby who may wish to enrol a child, we would appreciate you speaking with them, on our behalf. You may be able to encourage them to come for a

school tour, or tell them a little about our school.

We would love to have all enrolments for 2019 in by the end of term, but we also realise this can be difficult at times. If you return an enrolment form by the end of term 3, you can be assured of a place. Our friendly office staff will be happy to provide you with

whatever information you need!

Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast

the Yoga program running this term. Today is the last day for

payment, so please make sure you pay on Compass by midnight

tonight. If your child will not be attending the classes, please notify

the School Office.

Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” and young people. . .

Today Netflix releases the entire second season of this both

acclaimed and very controversial series based on Jay Asher’s book.

The Department’s Head of Wellbeing has today issued schools with a statement

regarding the series, and the potential impact on adolescent viewers. Some of the email

is included for you to read below, and it also contains some helpful links about how to

discuss and view this controversial material with your child.

“This series may raise concerns and difficult emotions for many teenagers (and for some

adults as well). Given the challenging content of both seasons, it does need some

unpacking and discussion. This is a behaviour to encourage – we want our young people

to trust the adults in their world and feel that they can talk to them.

Resources at https://13reasonswhy.info/ are designed to help you have an informed

discussion with your child.

Information at https://headspace.org.au/news/the-launch-of-13-reasons-why-season-2/

is specifically for parents re Season 2.

I have also attached for you some materials from HeadSpace that may assist you in

talking to your child or having a broader understanding of some issues for young people.

A number of external agencies may also be a good support for you:

‘From The Pitch’ Quidditch

Report

15th May, 2018

Red Hot Chillis vs Golden Snidgets

As both teams are fired up, prepared and ready to step onto the grass, they are ready to claim the victory of the first 5/6s match for Quidditch 2018. As the players are ready in their positions, Mr Bevis blows that whistle and the players brooms are up and the quaffle is flying through the misty sapphire air. After a few missed goals, the chasers return to the middle for a chance at the quaffle. As Go scores an opening goal, the scores then change to 10 - 0 ( 10 points for the Golden Smidgets ). As Aaron tries to score a goal, Eliza goes in, defends and saves the ball from going through. Meanwhile, the subs change with their team to have a chance on the rusty field. As the quaffle is in the sky, the Golden Snidgets get another glorious goal! As the seekers are called away to their boxes, the game continues. After waiting a few minutes, the snitch has run onto the grass, trying to get away from the other players. A while later when the seekers have chased after the snitch, it appears that Johnny has grabbed the golden snitch as they win the match. Congratulations and very well done to both teams. Good luck next time!

LIBRARY News

Our annual Carnival Book Fair will be held in our library from Monday 21st May to Thursday 24thth May. The Book Fair will also be open during Open Night, Wednesday 23rd May from 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm. As always, a fantastic range of quality books will be available for order and/or sale. The Book Fair will be open for browsing, sales and ordering:

Things you need to know about the Book Fair:

All sales from the Book Fair contribute to a commission to purchase new books for the library.

The last copy of each book in the Fair will NOT be sold but can be paid for and ordered. Most students will need to order books as there are usually only about 3 copies of each title.

It doesn’t matter if you come to the Book Fair on Monday afternoon at the start of the Fair or if you come on Thursday afternoon at the end of the Fair - you will still see the complete range of books available and be able to place an order.

Ordered books usually arrive in about one week or so. I can assure everyone that I will get their ordered books to them ASAP.

Purchases can be made using cash, EftPos or Credit card.

If parents would like to help with sales and taking orders at the Book Fair, please fill in the slip below and return it to school by ASAP. You will help with selling and ordering the books which is very easy!

Chess Club - Chess Puzzle Last week’s answer

Garden News

"Now that our middle school buildings have been given a makeover it’s time to give some attention to the garden beds around the middle school. You will have noticed that all the plants were removed from the garden beds to allow for new cladding. The Garden Club has met and finalised new plants for the junior school building garden beds. We are looking for any help from school families to plant the garden beds. On Saturday 19 May and Sunday 20 May we have planting sessions from 9am - 1pm and from 1pm - 5pm. You do not need to stay for the entire four hour shift - even one hour of your time will make a difference. No garden experience is necessary just a willingness to come and help out in any way you can with planting, moving soil or laying irrigation. With just a little bit of help from lots of school

families we can have the middle school building looking fantastic and green!

If you can help out in any way please contact Larissa Halonkin at [email protected]
