Chaplain’s News Hi everyone,
Being a parent is one of the most satisfying, challenging, joyful, exhausting, fun and demanding jobs
we will ever have.
When I look at all of the skills I need to be a parent and realize what little training I have I am not
surprised I make mistakes!
That’s why I need people around me to help! My friends who have children are a great support. We
chat and share about our children and where we need to support them more. We also celebrate the great times.
Some of us are blessed to have supportive grandparents. Grandparents, who will take the children for special treats, always
remember to ask about school, friends or the special activity the children
are doing.
Sometimes we need to consult with Professionals to help us with our
children. In Australia we are lucky to have teachers who care, Doctors,
Paediatricians, Social Workers, Psychologists, Speech Therapists and
many others who can give us professional advice on particular areas of
help with our children.
Confident Parents, Confident Children is a parenting course that we have
the option of running next year at Drouin West Primary School for the
parents at our school. It sounds
great and I know I always gain so
much from any of the parenting
courses I have done over the years.
Networking with others, hearing others say, “my child does that too!” and brainstorming
ways we can support our children is a wonderful encouragement and the occasional
expert advice is great too!
Please return the following form if you think this is something you may be interested in.
At this stage it’s just an expression of interest but it’s important I have some forms back
to support the application to run the program. The program will be free.
Thanks to those who have returned their forms already.
Take care

In Term 1, 2015 I am hoping to run a program by Parentzone called, “Confident Parents, Confident Children”. The program includes 4-5 two hour sessions. It looks at issues such as child development, developing positive relationships with your children, understanding causes of children’s behaviour, ways to encourage co-operative behaviour, strategies to deal with difficult behaviour, self esteem-theirs and yours and any other issues challenging you as a parent. It sounds fabulous! Could you please indicate on the return form whether you are interested in this program and whether you would prefer evenings or day time sessions? There will be no cost to this program.
Confident Parents, Confident Children.

The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’
On Thursday the 30th of October, Miss Bills took part in the
Ice Bucket Challenge at Drouin West Primary School.
The Ice Bucket Challenge was initiated by Pete Frates, to raise
money and awareness for Motor Neuron Disease. Motor
Neuron Disease (MND) is a devastating disease that slowly
affects a person’s ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for MND.
To take the Ice Bucket Challenge, first you need to be
nominated by someone who has already completed the
challenge- in Miss Bills’ case this was by Tom Smith (thanks
Tom). After you’ve been nominated and you’ve decided on a
date and location to take part in the challenge, you then fill a
bucket with water and ice. Before completing the challenge
you must nominate three people and if the nominees don't take
the Ice Bucket Challenge, they should make a donation to an
MND charity. To complete the challenge, tip the bucket of
freezing water over your head!
The ice bucket challenge is a remarkable thing to do, to help
support people living with Motor Neuron Disease and motor
neuron disease research. Next to take the challenge, at Drouin
West Primary School is Mrs Proctor, Tarn and Blake Little.
