Seasons Greetings
This newsletter encompasses the outline of activities to come and possibly the most
important newsletter full with information on actions taken place and proposals in store.
It also contains the important notifications and communication to the members
regarding administrative and scientific activities. You will able to turn your pages to
glimpse the deliberations of mid-term EC meeting just held 4 weeks ago.
The society is committed to march ahead from where we are and desire to take along
the inclusive agenda from the members point of view. Our sectional activities on
education, young neurosurgeons forum and practicing neuroclinicians forum is thriving
example of the same
To avoid last minute confusion and hardships we have introduced the guest login to
access the online abstract submission, details about which are the contents of this
newsletter. This is an additional key for those who are not yet members of the society.
Our overseas adventures are proving fruitful and we are about to sign the 3 year NSI-
CNS collaboration pact. This year we have SNCLF – the society of English speaking
French Neurosurgeons as our guest society, participating in the scientific programme of
NSICON 2014..
CNS-NSI Simulation workshop is going to be the regular feature with coming NSICONs.
You are requested to mark your calendar for December 2014 NSICON at Coimbatore
from 12th to 15th December at Hotel Le Meridien and demonstrate your participatory role
for the said event.

‘Applications for grants from WFNS (I) Trust are invited from neurosurgeon members and associate
members of NSI, for attending inland conferences ( except annual NSI conferences), overseas
conferences, training in Indian or Centres abroad. Please access application form from NSI
‘website’. All applications for financial grants from WFNS (I) Trust for the subsequent quarter of the
year should be received before 31st March, 30th June , 30th September and 31st December. All

Prof. (Dr.) Bibhukalyani Das (CNAN-1) has received the Lifetime Achievement Award of Indian
Society for Study of Pain (ISSP) for the year 2014
Prof Dr V Nagaraajan (NNP-12) has been awarded the National Distinguished Teacher Award,
from the Association of Physicians of India for the year 2013.
Proposed Constitutional Amendments by Executive Committee
Few important changes were necessary to gain additional strength and representation within
the membership and its administrative wing. Several rounds of discussions within the EC has
resulted in three resolutions which were ratified by GBM. The proposals were put for online
voting.
The first poll on Addition of International membership to membership category was approved
by 92.3% (total votes received 48 out of total 52 votes). The second poll on the issue that EC
will have 10 members elected for a term of 3 years each was also approved by 98.5% votes
(total votes received 64 out of total 65 votes).
The third poll on the issue of “One term on EC must to contest for the President Elect, Secretary
and Treasurer” had received majority (64.7%) but could not clear 2/3rd majority, it has been
approved by EC, hence it is put again for approval of GB. Election for Office bearers
A candidate should have served a TERM in EC at some stage to be eligible to the election of President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer" Explanation: There is no election for president. The President Elect takes over as President for next year. The member who goes for the post of officers should be aware of the day to day activities and decision making process in the management of the society. This amendment will take care of the lacuna existing in our constitution. Other eligibility criteria vide constitution No.9.1 subclause 1 through 4 shall remain the same.

Guest login :
There will be a guest login for non-members who want to present papers. This is to facilitate
involvement in scientific activity. Please note that this login will be exclusively to enable non-
members who have applied for membership after 30 april to upload abstracts for the annual
conference. The username and password supplied through this process will expire after the
deadline for abstract submission. The registrants will be provided with a new username and
password when the membership is approved by the executive committee. The abstracts submitted
through guest login will only be acknowledged after scrutiny of their membership application and will
be subject to it being in order. It is a facility for limited activity of NSI restricted to above submission
only.

Bids for hosting NSICON 2017
Bids are invited for annual meeting of Neurological Society of India – NSICON 2017
from across all members of NSI. The bid forms are available on NSI website for
downloads. Please note that the last date for sending the bids is 30th November
2014. Please go through the requirements in the format available on the website
and also ensure the requirements as per bye laws available on
www.neurosocietyindia.org . The completed forms may be sent to the secretary at

NSI website is in the process of being regularly updated and made more functional and user
friendly. The abstract submission process is also on and active till 31st July 2014 only. All
members, institutions may forward their updated addresses and emails immediately to the
Hon. Secretary at [email protected] so that data may be updated.
Bid for Symposia at NEUROCON 2016 -Chennai
Bids are invited to organize Symposium at the Annual Conference of the Society to be held in
Hyderabad in December 2016. Please note that your bids should reach the secretariat by 30th
November 2014. Any bid reaching after the prescribed date shall not be considered. Bids
should be made on the proper forms available on the website and should reach preferably on
email. Hard copies shall also be accepted.
Registration mandatory for Presenters
All full award paper presentations have to be uploaded by November 30th on the conference
website. The same will also be done for other papers also. All presenters have to mandatorily
register for the conference before 31st August failing which the paper shall not be considered
for evaluation. Invited speakers who are NSI members will register for the conference
preferably by 31st October and submit their abstracts.
Travel Fellowship Programme
Applications are invited from members who feel financially constrained to attend the
annual conferences and other NSI meetings. A sum of Rs 50,000/- will be given to 3-5
members per year.
Criteria for applicants –
Age of at least 40 years and are NSI Members for at least 2 years
Number of international conferences attended in the last 2 years.

ANNOUNCEMENT
GLASGOW COMA SCALE IN INDIAN LANGUAGES
Glasgow Coma scale (GCS) is the most frequently used scoring system for neurologic
assessment. The translation in seventeen Indian languages is now available at:
www.isnacc.org. The same can be used for teaching and training purposes of various
healthcare personnel.

2014/May/MTEC/02 - Minutes of Midterm Meetings (December 2013) – AEC, GB, IInd EC
The council discussed and approved the minutes of the last annual and post conference EC
Meetings and GBM held at Sunset Board Room Hotel Trident and NCPA in Mumbai on 11th 13th
and 14st December 2013. The President & Secretary signed the minute book to confirm the
same. The minutes had already been circulated in the newsletter. The members approved the
same. Proposed by Dr K E Turel and seconded by Dr Sandeep Chaterjee.
2014/May/MTEC/03 - Secretary’s Report
The secretary informed the house about the activities taken up during the December to April
period.
As a secretary he mentioned that this was his last and final year to submit to the midterm EC
about the journey taken so far and what was proposed to be taken into consideration for
discussion during the EC meeting.
He welcomed all the members to the first EC meeting of 2014 which was the midterm meeting
and the first one of expanded EC. He said that NSI has been ever expanding and movement of
inclusive positive approach with transparency towards administrative affairs have been fruitful
with the inclusion of Dr Daljeet Singh, Dr Paresh Doshi, Dr Sandeep Chaterjee, Dr V G Ramesh
and Dr Sanjay Behari on board for shouldering the responsibility. He complimented the
organizing secretary Dr Suresh Sankhla and put it on record for his successful organization and
Prof V Rajshekhar for his splendid effort to carve out an innovative and contemporary scientific
programme.
He further informed that Invitation for Symposia Bids for NSICON 2016, Request for Bids for
NSICON 2017, and Notice for General Elections will be published in the june newsletter with the
last dates.
He mentioned that our past presidents and present president have strived hard, to achieve
international corridors for expansion of Neurological Society of India. We have opened up
international membership and zeroed on MoU to be signed between CNS and NSI after several
rounds of discussion in both the countries. This is also part of present agenda.
So far our thrust on education of Neurological Sciences in the country in general and
neurosurgical education in particular has been successful. Also, Neurological Society of India is
seized with the problem of training standards for neurosurgeons in MCh and DNB programmes.
Dr V G Ramesh had prepared a paper on uniformity of the curriculum for these programmes in
early 2013. After careful deliberations in EC meetings of 2013 a detailed discussion on the basis
of that paper was held in AIIMS Delhi on 15th March 2014. The daylong 9AM to 5 PM discussion
was minuted and will be visible to all of you when this part of the agenda is moved by Dr P Sarat
Chandra.
One of the highlights of Mumbai NSICON 2013 was pre-conference simulation workshop done
by CNS for NSI members and it had received a very positive feedback. The whole expenditure
was footed by CNS and NSI.
The central office is working satisfactorily and is in the process of accommodating aspirations of
all the members by expanded communication corridors.
He detailed the action taken report on the based on the discussions of the last meetings. The
report was applauded by the members.
2014/May/MTEC/04 - Constitution Amendment – Online poll results The secretary mentioned that in accordance with the decision of last EC and GBM online poll
was conducted on constitutional amendments. The module worked successfully for the three
polls done but members’ response had been less than encouraging. It was disheartening to
note that even decision makers stayed away from poll. There were few feedbacks about
ignorance regarding polling procedure. The procedure guideline was sent with all the polls.
The first poll on Addition of International membership to membership category was approved
by 92.3% (total votes received 48 out of total 52 votes). The second poll on the issue that EC
will have 10 members elected for a term of 3 years each was also approved by 98.5% votes
(total votes received 64 out of total 65 votes). However the third poll on the issue of One term
on EC must to contest for the President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer could not meet the 2/3rd
mark and got 64.7% votes (total votes received 33 out of 51 votes). It shall be brought to the
GBM again.
Dr V G Ramesh expressed his concern over lesser number of people who have voted. Dr V P
Singh and Dr C E Deopujari mentioned that they were unable to vote. Dr Mishra mentioned that
it may be a local problem.
As this year is year of major elections, it will be held for all positions in the month of October.
The dates and schedule shall be communicated through notification. It was the time and
opportunity to take decision on the procedure for major poll schedule and its logistics. He
exhorted all EC members to use their good offices and prevail upon their acquaintances and
friends to participate in the polling for showing their share of responsibility.
The EC resolved to put the 3rd amendment as a proposal in the next newsletter The amendment
will mention that it had received majority (64.7%) but could not clear 2/3rd majority, it has been
approved by EC hence it is put again for approval of GB.
2014/May/MTEC/05 – Theme of NSICON 2014
Dr V Rajshekhar, President NSI informed that the theme for NSICON 2014 was “Enabling
excellence” which was unanimously approved and the same had already been communicated
to Dr V Rajesh Babu, the organizing secretary for NSICON 2014, Coimbatore.
2014/May/MTEC/06 - Orations for NSICON 2014, Coimbatore
The President Prof V Rajshekhar informed the EC about previous orators for Dr. Jacob Chandy
Orators (once in 2 years) and Dr. Baldev Singh Orators (once in 3 years) which are due in 2014:
He briefed that the orator for Dr. Jacob Chandy oration shall be Dr Robert E. Harbaugh and the
orator for Dr. Baldev Singh Oration will be Dr Dachling Pang. The orators have been informed
and hospitality and remuneration will be provided as per byelaws mentioned in the
constitution.
2014/May/MTEC/07 - New Website
Dr R C Mishra brought to the attention of the council that the website has also being designed
up by the central office. As promised they have completed the task of revamping the society
website to make it more user friendly with facility for updation without any delay. The database
is fully updated and the new website has features of instant editing by admin. The security
features are being enhanced.
Mr. Navneet Arora presented a report on the new design. He mentioned that this is the layout
which is very simple with a template of blue and white. This layout can be modified very easily
and thus updations can be made faster. This website is a tweaked up template of the earlier
portal and most of the glitches in the earlier version have been taken care of. He also
mentioned that this project has been taken up by the central office and has been done free of
cost for the society. He invited the members to actively suggest improvements and
amendments so that the website may be made more user friendly. Dr M D Nair suggested that
the header needs to be more prominent. The council was appreciative of the efforts. He
informed that the old vendor M/s Chimera technologies was not responding to the queries and
hence this task had to be taken up.
He informed that electronically the abstract submission process shall start with the new
website from June 1st 2014 and shall close on 31st July. Dr V Rajshakhar mentioned that he had
gone through the website and there were some spelling errors. It was resolved that the website
shall be launched and corrections shall be implemented as per suggestions of Dr V Rajshekhar.
Prof R C Mishra informed the members that the online payment facility has been working now
from 1st April 2013 and membership money received from online payments has also been
transferred to the society account.
2014/May/MTEC/08 – Abstract Submission for NSICON 2014
Dr R C Mishra emphasized that because of no advantage gained out of antedating abstract
submission from 1st May in 2013, the time tested dates have been reverted back from 1st June
to 31st July.
Also upholding the inclusive criteria for maximum participation, the proposal of having a guest
login for submitting abstracts is being implemented from 2014.
2014/May/MTEC/09 - Lifetime achievement awards The Secretary briefed the council about the nominations received for life achievement awards.
All the applications were found in order. After two rounds of deliberations it was decided that
from this year the number of awards would be increased to five from three. Since all the
nominations were valid the EC found it very difficult to decide the five awardees. After several
discussions the following names were finalized for this year.

2014/May/MTEC/10 - NSI Elections Dr R C Mishra informed the returning officer Dr B S Sharma about this year elections which shall
be held for the following posts.

He duly explained the procedure and proper actions taken on the cut-off dates for nominations
and balloting as per bye laws.
1 June: Treasurer notifies Secretary NSI of list of eligible members who can vote.
1 July: Secretary NSI notifies vacancies in Newsletter & invites nominations duly
proposed & seconded by full members of good standing along with
consent of candidate with brief biodata in prescribed format.
1 October: Candidates to be informed & withdrawals if any invited
22 October: Last date for withdrawal of candidature.
It was decided to have online polling. Prior to that two dummy polls to test the module and
to encourage the participants shall take place.
10 November: Online Voting starts
5 December: Online voting ends
It has been left open ended whether the online polling should go right up to the start of the
conference or should be over as per the dates mentioned above (dates are according to
byelaws).
2014/May/MTEC/11 - Education Cell NSI – structuring
Dr C E Deopujari mentioned that his term in the education cell is ending in December. The EC
resolved that the committee shall be reconstituted after the 6th course in Lucknow and shall be
declared in December after the general elections. One of the old members can be in the
committee for continuity.
2014/May/MTEC/12 - CNS NSI MOU Dr V Rajshekhar brought to the attention of the council that the draft of the CNS-NSI MoU had been sent by CNS earlier and has been circulated to all the EC members. Most of the issues were reciprocal. The council discussed on all the clauses mentioned in the MoU. Deliberations were made on the financial sharing on common programmes. Dr V P Singh pointed out to correct Brazil to India at one or two places which were wrongly mentioned. It was resolved that the MoU will be signed in Boston during the annual conference of CNS after necessary corrections. CNS advertisement would be put up in the journal to create awareness amongst the members.
2014/May/MTEC/13 - Appointment of NSI Lawyers Dr V Rajshekhar mentioned that the society needs to anticipate face legal issues anytime as we become bigger we have already faced one in near past. Also the MoUs signed should be vetted by them specially where there are financial issues like revenue sharing are involved. It was proposed to retain NSI lawyers for any legal issues. Different modalities are available and a feasible model can be worked out preferably on SOS basis. It was resolved that the solicitor “Mulla and Mulla” will be nominated to look after the legal aspects of the society as per need based.
2014/May/MTEC/14 - Neurology India Best Paper Award Dr V Rajshekhar proposed to bring up a new award with the help of Dr J M K Murthy and Dr Sanjay Behari as they were the editor and editor elect for the best paper in the journal every year. It will be under three categories one for the original paper, one for the best case study and one for the best letter. The criteria for shortlisting the awards shall be the number of citations, the impact factor and the age of the author shall be under 45 years. President, Editor, Editor Elect and two other senior members shall form the committee for deciding the award. Final decision would be by the committee mentioned. The original paper shall be presented during the conference. Resolved that the award is constituted and the first award will be conferred in 2014 Coimbatore.
2014/May/MTEC/15 - AANS/CNS/NSI Hands On Spine Course Feb 6 and 7, 2015 at Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore
Dr V Rajshekhar mentioned that the AANS/CNS/NSI Hands On Spine Course shall be held on February 6 and 7, 2015 at Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore which is an optimum venue for the same. AANS will fund their faculty travel, the faculty stay and meals. NSI will be funding the cadavers. Resolved that NSI will fund the cadaver cost. In case AANS is unable to fund the faculty, NSI will go ahead and conduct the course with Indian faculty. Dr Kale and Dr Muthukumar shall be the people helping to co-ordinate. It will be subsidized for the senior residents (Final year or Post MCh within 2 years) @INR 10,000/- . Dr R C Mishra suggested to find a sponsor and name it “NSI Hands On Spine Workshop” in case AANS is unable to participate.
2014/May/MTEC/16 - Foundation course for neurosurgical residents Dr V Rajshekhar also proposed a foundation course for the residents students of neurosurgery viz. Boot Camp, teaching them simple procedures regarding neurosurgery taught in a formal manner. It can be a 2 day course and can be run by young faculty. The EC felt that it is an excellent concept and should be done on the regional basis. The modules can be formed and can be said as the first step towards uniform curriculum. Resolved that such boot camps will be done for the benefit of the students as “Initiation into Neurosurgery” starting from 2015 in Mumbai under the leadership of Dr C E Deopujari.
Dr V Rajshekhar also proposed to send a NSI endorsed document for improving road safety in
India. Resolved that Dr V Rajshekhar will be sending the letter which shall be part of the document to be submitted in the supreme court of India.
2014/May/MTEC/17 - Proposal for WFNS course in India early next year Dr C Deopuajri mentioned that recently WFNS had the annual meeting where he and Dr R C
Mishra had participated and the education committee of WFNS expressed their desire to be
active in India and conduct a WFNS Education Course (under the aegis of NSI) in India. Dr Sanjay
Behari readily agreed to conduct the course in Lucknow. The proposed course will be a 2.5 days
course starting on 30th, 31st of January and 1st of February 2015 based on collaboration and
no parallel event would be held at that time. There shall be five sessions altogether for this
course. Pediatric, endoscopy, epilepsy and skull base (2 sessions) and one Indian faculty will be
a part of each session. It will be a paid course.
Resolved and approved by the council.
2014/May/MTEC/18 - Presentation of only 1 best paper in each category with critical comment
from one of the judges to have a crisp session.
Dr C E Deopujari brought a proposal that since the plenary session for the best paper is not well
attended only the best paper will be read. The mode of presentation will not remain as a
criteria. The other papers will go in the afternoon session. The council deliberated on this issue
and disagreed on the proposal and resolved to continue with the present situation.
2014/May/MTEC/19 – Consideration of an "Indian Neurosciences Research and Education
Foundation"
Dr C E Deopujari mentioned that the the treasurer president and secretary can decide together.
To use the excess funds it may be put in a foundation for imparting neurosurgical education
which in the long term will be a better option for the society. Donations can come from
pharma and other sections of the society. Deliberations were made on the issue and the council
agreed on the same. A document shall be made to be presented in the next EC meeting.
Dr C E Deopujari contributed a sum of Rs 2,00,000 from the organising committee of IFNE
(Neuroendoscopy 2013) meeting which was well appreciated by the members of the council.
The earlier personal donation in December 2013 by Dr C E Deopujari of Rs 2,50,000/- is marked

2014/May/MTEC/20 - Theme of public awareness programs next 2 years.
Dr C E Deopujari mentioned that the public awareness programme was well appreciated in
Mumbai. The film made by Mukta Arts. Resolved to thank them and the movie will be uploaded
on youtube and the link added to the NSI website. Also resolved to continue the same theme
further for the next years. The council also requested Dr K E Turel to provide the NSI video
made by him during 2000 annual conference and the same can be put up on the website. Dr V
Rajesh Babu mentioned that his theme shall be on head injury and spine injury. Resolved after
deliberations that head injury and stroke shall be the themes every alternate year for the public
awareness programme in the next few years for maximum impact and exposure..

2014/May/MTEC/22 – Sectional Report - CME Convener Update
Convenors Dr V P Singh and Dr M D Nair presented the report. It was proposed to keep the
format of the CME similar to that held last year and to continue with a full day neurology CME
as before. The stress on selecting new speakers would be continued. One slot has been kept
for French speaking Neurosurgeons Society member.
The CME book bought out by Thieme Publications last year was well received. The quality of
printing has improved. This year also they would be entrusted with publishing ‘Progress in
Neurosciences’ and asked to give wider exposure worldwide. Some guest articles would also be
published in the book.
2014/May/MTEC/23 – Sectional Report - Education Cell Update Dr C E Deopujari presented the education cell report from December to April. The 5th NSI
Educational Course was held at Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata on the 15th and 16th
February, 2014 under the stewardship of Prof S N Ghosh. This was the first time it was held in
eastern India. Apart from faculties of Bangur institute of Neurosciences it was attended by
faculties from other premier institutes like Prof M K Tewari from PGIMER, Prof P Saratchandra
from AIIMS, Prof Sanjay Behari from SGPGIMS and Prof Suresh Nair from SCTIMST. Among the
NSI office bearers Prof R C Mishra, Secretary, NSI, Prof C E Deopujari, Chairman, NSI Education
Cell and Prof Deepu Banerji, Treasurer, NSI attended the Course as faculty. Prof Sandip
Chatterjee of Park Clinic, Kolkata was also a faculty. The course was attended by 32 final year
MCh and DNB candidates from all over India.
On 15th February, 2014 the course began at 8.30 am after inauguration. Then there were
lectures on clinical examination by the faculties. After that students were divided into groups
and were evaluated with clinical cases , instruments, radiology, pathology and viva.
On 16th February after the completion of the evaluation process each student was asked to
give their feedback regarding the course.
The education programme under the aegis of NSI has become a credible platform for final year
trainees. It is twice in the year and we are going to have 6th course in Lucknow this year in
August 2014. He mentioned that, this has matured in its format and presentation.
The report was approved.
2014/May/MTEC/24 – Sectional Report - Young Neurosurgeons Forum – Manas Panigrahi Dr. Manas Panigrahi informed that he will co-ordinate with the secretary and Scientific
Committee chairman and will have a 60-90 minute session for young neurosurgeons forum in a
late afternoon or evening slot ( High Tea Session ) as this Forum is conceived on the principles
of inclusive growth of society where it is proposed to ensure one young neuroscientist to be
part of the decision making body along with giving thrust to maximum involvement of this
population in day to day activities and the classification is being put forth as 10 years after
attaining the basic qualification or below 45 years of age. He also mentioned a letter from one
of the DNB residents who were concerned with the curriculum. So this year he will have a
curriculum meeting for one hour on 14th December 6 PM.
2014/May/MTEC/25 – Sectional Report - Practicing Neuroclinicians Forum Dr V P Singh mentioned that the response to the first forum meeting in Mumbai was very
encouraging. The topic of discussion was “How to avoid litigation in practice” and there were
four speakers from different types of practice. There was very active participation by the
audience and most importantly there was participation by those members who are usually
silent spectators in most NSI meetings. So this forum would help to make the meeting more
inclusive.
Many members complained that the forum was not widely announced during the conference
and suggested that it be publicized more in future meetings. Suggestions were taken from the
audience about future topics to be discussed and on their bidding it was decided to discuss
“Consent form” in the next forum meeting in Coimbatore.
The report was approved and will be more widely publicized.
2014/May/MTEC/26 – Editor’s Report Dr J M K Murthy presented the editors report. He mentioned that with the improvement of the
impact factor, the quality and the standard of the articles submitted are good. It is becoming a
difficult task to decide which articles are to be considered for the peer review process. As on
May 9, 2014, the number of manuscripts submitted were 576 out of which 367 (77%) were
found unsuitable for publication by the reviewers. OF the remaining 109 manuscripts, 41 (9%)
manuscripts have been accepted for publication and the rest 68 (14%) manuscripts are at
various stages of review process. The number of days from first submission to acceptance is
45.22. The number of days from acceptance to publication is 26.61.
Regarding the finances he mentioned that for the FY 2013-14, the expenditure for publishing six
issues of Neurology India was Rs 2,203,852.00 and revenues generated from the
advertisements and subscription was Rs. 1,066,574.00. The due amount to be paid to the
publishers is 1,084,574.00. As the bank account of the Neurology account is Rs. 4,04,821.00 it
was requested to clear off the balance.
The report was approved.
2014/May/MTEC/27 – Establishing of Indian College of Neurosurgeons (ICNS) Dr V G Ramesh put up a proposal to formulate uniform neurosurgical training, in view of the
general scepticism as to whether the proposal will be acceptable to the MCI and NBE, etc., it
was proposed that Neurological Society of India establishes an Indian College of Neurosurgeons
(ICNS), to take care of this aspect. The aim shall be to have a forum for academic and research
activity in the field of Neurosurgery and to provide a uniform standard of Neurosurgical training
in India. The Indian College of Neurosurgeons (ICNS) will be established under the Neurological
Society of India and registered. It was proposed that the initial membership will be open to all
qualified neurosurgeons (MCh/DNB) who are interested in promoting training, teaching,
research, CME activity, etc. Restricted number of senior neurosurgeons may be made Fellows.
ICNS will strive to establish the uniform minimum quality and standard of neurosurgical training
throughout India. It will also aim to promote research and original publications in neurosurgery.
In the long run, the ICNS may hold national level examinations for Membership/Fellowship
(MICNS/FICNS) in the lines of MRCS/FRCS. Delibrations were made on the issue and it was
resolved that this issue would be taken up further and left open ended.
2014/May/MTEC/28 – Outcomes of 15th March curriculum meeting in AIIMS for MCh / DNB – Sarat P Chandra In the absence of Dr P Sarat Chandra, Dr V Rajshekhar presented the report. After careful
deliberations in EC meetings of 2013 a detailed discussion on the basis of the paper presented
by Dr V G Ramesh, a meeting was held in AIIMS Delhi on 15th March 2014. The daylong 9AM to
5PM discussion was compiled and minutes were made and are available to all the members. Dr
B S Sharma mentioned that the representation from DNB was very little. A letter from Dr A K
Banerji was also read in this regard. Detailed deliberations were made on the issue. It was
resolved that this issue would be crystallized and taken up further in the next EC The curriculum
convener was Dr V G Ramesh and he will consolidate the document. Dr V G Ramesh shall
organize another email meeting with the DNB people and finalise the concrete report along
with Dr Sarat Chandra and Dr B S Sharma. Dr V Rajshekhar proposed that the core members
shall meet in lucknow to finalize the report..
2014/May/MTEC/29 – Invitation to other societies as reciprocal gesture during the NSI annual
conferences
Invitation to ASSI for a session at the NSI annual conference in Hyderabad – 2015
Dr V Rajshekhar mentioned that in 2010 the organizers of ASSI annual conference invited NSI
members to attend and participate. He mentioned that he had participated in 2014 January for
the first time. Resolved that in 2015 it was agreed to reciprocate and invite them by sending an
invitation for a parallel session for around 2 to 2.5 hours.
Invitation from IANS for a lecture in IANS annual conference in Chandigarh – 2014
Dr C E Deopujari mentioned that it has been principally agreed to invite IANS to attend and
participate. He mentioned that they are also going to discuss the same in their meeting and Dr
V Rajshekhar shall be formally invited by IANS for a lecture in their annual conference.
2014/May/MTEC/30 – Report on NSI Central office / e-office The secretary informed the house that the secretariat work is being managed by M/S Naman
Inc. under Navneet Arora. He felt that the transition phase is almost over and all the activities
including the website are being taken up by the central office under the supervision of Navneet
Arora. He invited the opinion of other officers regarding the same. The council was appreciative
of the same.
Due to the implication of service tax on the society, and also the central office handling firm it
has been upgraded from Naman Inc. to M/S Event Architects Inc. with a proper service tax
registration number and all further payments from 1st April shall be given in the above
mentioned firm.
The EC approved the same.
It was also discussed that the apartment or an office also needs to be purchased as per the
savings of the society and Dr V P Singh was assigned this task and he shall detail the office
bearers and council soon in this regard.
2014/May/MTEC/31 Report on NSICON 2013
Dr Suresh Sankhla gave a report on NSICON 2013. The Public awareness programme was very
successful. He mentioned that the total registrations were 1152. Workshop registrations were
as following - 50 registrations in cadaveric workshop, 53 in simulation workshop. He also
presented a summary of the finances. The collection was 83 lakhs from registration and 1 crore
93 lakhs from sponsorships. Expenses were 2.14 crores with the biggest on the venue NCPA 67
lakhs. The surplus was about 64 lakhs The only amount to be paid is on service tax which is
being worked out by the CA which may be around 10 lakhs. The approximate savings shall be
around 60 lakhs. The council congratulated Dr Suresh Sankhla for organizing the splendid
conference as well as the savings.
2014/May/MTEC/32 – NSICON 2014, Coimbatore – approval of brochure, Orators and
Scientific Programme
Dr V Rajesh Babu briefed on planning and execution on the preparations of NSICON 2014. He
informed the council that the arrangements are being made enthusiastically by all the
members. The total registrations received as on date were 38 but they were hoping more
registrations than the previous conference.
He further informed that the Public Awareness Lecture was setup up in the main auditorium at
4 pm and the members shall immediately proceed to the hall after the council meeting
The printed brochure was presented by Dr V Rajesh Babu which was found to be incomplete.
Deliberations were held on the finalization of Brochure and it was resolved that it will be
printed again after properly adding all the details.
Dr V Rajesh Babu also detailed about the registration charges inclusive of service taxes,
Morning & Luncheon Symposiums and evening functions. The council also deliberated
regarding the chief guest and guest of honour.
The council expressed concern on the lesser number of registrations and deliberations were
made to increase the registrations.
The concerns regarding the finances were raised and discussed.
2014/May/MTEC/33 – NSICON 2015 Update Dr Manas Panigrahi along with the representatives from the venue and event co-ordination
made a presentation regarding the arrangements and the proposed registration fees for the
2015 conference. The venue is located prominently and one of the finest conference venues of
Asia and accessible to tourist locations and nearby starred hotels. Various halls are also
available for the presentations, all conference services available along with huge exhibition area
and food court. The facilities available at this site were found appropriate for the conference.
On the spot suggestions and interaction came up with the organizers and due alterations were
accepted by them for smooth conduct of the conference. Conducting the scientific programme
was also discussed.
The EC felt very happy about the venue and unanimously approved the same.
2014/May/MTEC/34 – NSICON 2016 Update A mail from Dr K Sridhar was read and discussions were made on the same. The necessary
answers to questions raised as well as certain queries / doubts that the local organisation had
were provided.

It was discussed that the venue was one of the best conference venues in Chennai in regards to
NSI annual conference and was accepted. The final inspection shall be done during the Midterm
EC meeting to be held in May 2015 at Chennai.

It was discussed and resolved that it would be ideal to have 4 Halls +1 for the Nursing
conference. There need to be other smaller rooms / areas for secretariat, NSI Central Office and
CNS etc. The exhibition area should preferably be adjoining the lunch areas for maximum
exposure to the trade.
The dates for the Public Awareness Program & EC Meeting
It was resolved to have the public awareness programme after the EC meeting on 14th
December 2016.

It was discussed that the local organization is always the host to the Mid term EC meeting for
the prior year. This enables the EC to inspect and approve the venue.
Number of Complimentary rooms that may be required?
Around 40-45 including the guest societies delegates. The details would be mailed to the local
organizing committee.
Query regarding the Signatories for the conference account
Resolved that there shall be an NSI representative as a co-signatory to the account NSICON 2016 at Chennai along with the local organizing signatories.. The letter was discussed and resolved for all the queries. It was decided that the secretary will send a revert mail with all the details to Dr K Sridhar. 2014/May/MTEC/35 – Letters to be discussed / read A letter was read from Dr Vineeta Singh on behalf of AINA association which proposed to
continue the interaction. This letter was already answered by Dr V Rakshekhar.
Another letter was from Dr Ganapathy Krishnan was to put up a historian post in the EC. The EC
discussed on this matter and resolved to ask Dr Anil Pandey from Chennai, to do the needful
regarding this issue.
Another letter was from Dr V K Kak regarding bringing out an third volume about the past
presidents, and he will be willing to do the same. The EC resolved to request him to do the task
and take inputs from Dr Anil Pandey and Dr Ramesh Chandra.
Consolidating the meeting, President Dr V Rajshekhar acknowledged all the Council Members
for their active participation, support and co-operation. The Council also thanked the warm
hospitality and the arrangements made by Dr Manas Panigrahi who took time and measures to
smoothen the meeting. The meeting ended on a positive note.
