CONTAINER GARDENING BY SHAR

Shar Lugo teaches Container Gardening, featuring a different creative theme each time the class meets. The types of plants used include succulents, annuals, perennials and herbs. Shar majored in art at Moorpark College, and has continued to pursue her interests in creative design through the years. She has always been interested in gardening, and is serving as President of the Simi Valley Garden Club. In addition to gardening, Shar is an artist, specializing in oil painting. She also enjoys sewing and decorating. She has combined her skill as a seamstress with her artistic ability, and has embarked on a new path, upholstery. Shar says that she likes upholstery because “furniture tells a story”. She has many pieces of her upholstered furniture in her home. “When I’m creating my art, it blocks out the rest of the world,” explains Shar. She enjoys teaching seniors because it gives them a sense of accomplishment and they like working toward a finished project.

FREE LENDING LIBRARY AT THE CSC Do you have books at home that are taking up space? Bring them to the Calabasas Senior Center. We now have a free lending library near the front desk. On the shelves near the microwave, we are placing books that you bring in for this exchange. “Take a book, leave a book.” If you don’t have a book, you may take a book and bring another one next time you come by the Center.

TRIP TO MANZANAR

An all day excursion to Manzanar is the opportunity of a lifetime! Manzanar is the reconstructed historic site of the WWII Japanese Internment Camp. We will be guided by Mas Okui who, from the age of ten, was interned with his family for three years. Mas will

share his first-hand information, filled with wit, humor, and poise, revealing his personal life story while there.

We will travel on a large bus with a bathroom for a comfortable

three hour drive to the site. On the way home, we’ll stop in Mojave for dinner, on your own tab. If you

would like to see Manzanar, there are a few spaces left for the all-day excursion. Please use CODE 8012.101 to register online using

Active Net or in person at the Calabasas Senior Center. For more information, please

call: (818) 224-1777.
