The Vatican Bank scandal reaches Gran Canaria

According to an article recently published in Canary Island newspaper “La Provincia“,

more details have emerged about Italian broker Giovanni Carenzio, arrested in Italy for

his dark dealings with the Vatican Bank. Carenzio is married to María Dolores Inés

Molina, from Gran Canaria, who was fined €180,000 for fraud. There are also two

charges for money laundering, default, etc. brought against the couple in the courts of

Madrid and Las Palmas for over €800,000. For a long time, the couple formed part of

Las Palmas high society, with whom Giovanni Carenzio did investment and real estate

deals, promising a return of up to 20%.

The unemployment rate in the Canary Islands falls for the first time in

five months

Unemployment figures fell in June by 1.12%, after growing constantly over the last five

months. There were 155,500 registered unemployed in the province of Las Palmas in

June.

Beaches awarded the blue flag

In 2013, 46 beaches have once again been awarded the “ecological label”. In Gran

Canaria, these are the beaches of Mogán, Amadores, Pasito Blanco, Meloneras,

Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, San Agustín, Salinetas, Melenara, El Pozo, El Confital and

Las Canteras.

The energy certificate and how it works in practise

For most of the customers (sellers) of Inmobiliaria KSR date, we have managed the

compulsory certificate. Authorised architects require a note from the Land Registry

and a power of attorney and they check several electricity bills. The property is

measured accurately (including windows, height of the rooms, thickness of the walls

and windows, etc.) and they check electrical appliances (water heater, air-

conditioning, glass-ceramic hobs, etc.). All this information is used for the assessment

that is later registered in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Canary Island

government then issues the certificate. Initially it is surprising that all the properties

reported on, even though they are of different kinds, got a certificate with the lowest

score “G”. The explanation for this lies in the age of most of the properties on the

market. The starting point can be that all properties built before 2007 will be classed as

“G” due to the fact that at the time, they were usually built with breeze blocks.

It should also be pointed out that when selling the property, the energy certificate

becomes an integral part of the deed of purchase.

The train route from Las Palmas to the South

La Provincia

This project, delayed due to regional planning and funding issues, will supposedly see the light of day by the end of 2014. It appears that 18,000 jobs will be created for the building works. It will mean 200 permanent jobs once the train is in operation.

Conference and top-flight training in Madrid

“Inmocionate 2013” took place over several days in Madrid at the end of June for

professionals of the real estate business. This is the most important event of its kind in

Spain and Portugal for real estate experts, with international speakers, a range of

workshops and interesting, bang up-to-date subjects.

Karin-Sybille Rosenfeld was there.

July’s outstanding property:

Agüimes

This property, covering over 11,100 m2, is located in the borough of Agüimes with fascinating

views of "Roque Aguayo". The property has a main building with a living area of 170 m2 and a

cellar of the same size. There are several auxiliary buildings and garden sheds that can be

extended, a lovely pool with terraces, changing rooms and toilets, a bower and cottage around

the pool with oven, large barbecue and kitchen facilities. There is also a petanque/boules

pitch. There are orchards of orange, lemon, mango and olive trees all over a generous 4,000

m2. There are documented water rights for irrigating the plantation. The property does need

some refurbishing to get the most out of all the facilities. The present owner would be only too

happy to advise the purchaser.
