Letter from The Mayor
Well, I think summer is finally here! Hooray! After a week of rain and dreary skies, it’s great to see the sun and feel the heat. The grass, the flowers and the trees are now really beginning to show the real beauty of our town and the north. With some restrictions now easing, we can get out fishing, golfing, camping, etc. The parks and spray pool opening will give the kids much awaited places to go and enjoy. Our Town crew will be out doing their summer work, flushing lines, sweeping streets and other needed repairs. Our summer students are out cutting grass, looking after the flowers, the parks and making our town more beautiful. We have a number of summer projects this year. As always, we have more beautification, there are a number of areas getting new pavement and, of course, economic development is one of the top priorities. So, as you can tell, even with all the issues and restrictions that have been put on us, the Town has carried on bringing all the services to you throughout. I want to personally thank all of our Town Staff for continuing their service all this time. It has been difficult and frustrating for them, but they have carried on. Thank you and a huge pat on the back. To all our residents who have been practicing all the safety recommendations and kept our residents safe and well, thank you, stay well, stay safe and have a great summer.

Be bear aware - Bear-proof your property
With the arrival of warmer weather, it is common to see black bears, especially young ones, on the move. They are establishing new territory, attracted to new smells and looking for food.
As long as a bear keeps moving through an area and does not show an interest in people or their property, there is no conflict. Problems start when human food is available for bears to feed on. However, bears are intelligent animals and ruled by their stomachs. They will leave an area if they cannot find food.
There are simple ways to reduce the likelihood of bears becoming a problem:
• Store garbage in a secure building or use a bear-resistant container, only put your garbage out on collection day.
• Remove garbage from the back of a truck, even if it has a cover.
• Don’t put food out for wildlife, take bird feeders down between April and October.
• Ensure all fruit and berries are picked from trees and shrubs as early as possible.
• Wash all recycling items and regularly clean bins that contain garbage or recycling.
• Feed pets inside or remove any uneaten pet food.
• Use indoor composters or cover compost piles with soil. Avoid adding items with strong odors.
• Clean barbecues after each use, including the grease trap; cover or store in a garage or shed.
• Store petroleum products in garages or sheds
• Consider electric fencing for bee hives, or other attractants that cannot be kept in a secure building.

POWER LINES AND TREES We all love trees, but when they grow into power lines they cause
outages and can cause fires — especially during dry summer conditions.
Outages and fires are costly and pose real threats to safety and property.
Downed lines or accidental contact with lines while trimming trees can
cause serious injury or death. That’s why SaskPower is stepping up its
efforts to keep trees away from power lines.
Trees growing in unsafe locations may be significantly cut back or
removed completely. SaskPower crews will initially remove trees at no
cost to the owner; however in subsequent cases customers may be
charged for the work. Customers are reminded never to trim trees near
powerlines themselves, as this carries a serious risk of electric shock.
Transmission lines are located in SaskPower registered easements. No
planting is permitted on these easements. If you’re not sure where
easements are located or have other questions about trees and
transmission lines, please contact 1-888-757-6937 or email
STOP THE SPREAD! It is very important that everyone continues to take measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 including washing your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer/wipes, social distancing and self-isolate if you are not feeling well.
Testing in Flin Flon for Saskatchewan residents at the Flin Flon Community Hall (side door) is Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will be required to provide your health card.
If you experience fever, headache, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, diminished sense of smell — get tested or self-isolate immediately and contact Deena Slugoski at the Public Health Office at 306-688-8625 or call Health Links at 811 or 1-877-800-0002.
