Well another Royal has come and gone and I am sorry to have to say that Toni and I did not get to

show our Horses / Ponies there this year. But it was nice to see that the majority of the coloured

entries were WABA registered. Congratulations to

all our members that did well. Once again it was a

great turn-out from all our members, considering

how hard the Royal is.

A big welcome to all the beautiful new foals that

have arrived safely. I can't wait to see all the rest

that are still to come.

We have our state show approaching fast, and

anyone that can is very welcome to come and

assist in any way they can. This year we are giving

out CASH prizes.

See you all there

Darren Hunt WABA President

Another year has come to an end and a new

season starting, with only minor changes to the

WABA Committee we welcome Sandie Spencer

and farewell Heather Pow who is off home to

Victoria to live again. Unfortunately there hasn’t

been time to put together a grand farewell for Heather, some getting a chance to say goodbye at

the AGM. We do wish Heather all the best and will definitely have her back to judge in WA in the

not too distance future. Congratulations to Heather on being awarded a Life membership to the

Association, having been a member since 1999, a past President and long term Committee

member. Pictured page one with WABA President Darren Hunt receiving a special memento of her

time with WABA, to go with her Life membership badge.

Other special awards given out were Valuable Volunteer Award to Natalie Bosman and Kandice

Heal for the truly valued effort to help out at our shows over the past years as non members. Full

Awards result in newsletter.

Special thanks to Donna Newton who has retired form the position of Treasurer and Points

Coordinator for a well deserved rest.

Thanks also to the current WABA Committee for their continued effort over the year, many forget

we are a ‘not for profit’ association who rely solely on a volunteer committee. The efforts of those

like Jenny Brett our Registrar who is always there to help with info and getting registrations done

in supper fast time so members can compete is often overlooked. It takes an all round effort by a

selfless team who must consider the general needs of our members first before there own to make

this or any Association work.

2013 PERTH ROYAL: Congratulations and thank you to all those members who attended this

years Perth Royal. There were record entries submitted for the Buckskin/Dun classes, 22 of the

26 entered were WABA registered, as well as 4 Cream Appendix registered in the Palomino

classes and the 5 entered in the Cremello Perlino classes were all CPRWA registered, as well as

those who entered their breed sections.

The Perth Royal is the only forum in WA were we can show off the horses registered with WABA

to the general public and other horse enthusiasts. It requires huge effort and dedication to get a

horse to the Royal and when you add distance travelled to that, the effort is monumental.

Special mention to Eliza Hebiton and her team/family who travelled down from Geraldton and

the 2 veteran horses who were there yet again, they have both had great success over the years;

Jon Carroll's gelding ‘Silver Folly’ (21 years old) and Jasmine Nelson mare Diamond Dahl Sandy

(22 years old)

Unfortunately in the Cremello/Perlino section not all were able to get there but big congrats to

Sue Wiscombe and her gorgeous Cremello Shetland gelding ‘Gold Park Casper’ who was awarded

Champion.

The standard of horses presented in the Buckskin/Dun section was outstanding. The judge Peter

Taubman who breeds Australian Ponies, Australian Stock Horses and Welsh Ponies on his NSW

property "Montcalm" made special mention of the top quality and all round high standard of

horses presented after sashing Sara Macleod's colt ‘Prince De Luxe’, a very deserving winner

Judge for 2013 State Championships: Allot of thought went into the selection of a judge for this years State Championships. It is very

difficult to get a judge who is impartial, who does not tend to favour a particular breed type and

it is also very difficult for judges from the east to understand that we do not consider colour until

the actual colour class. A “good horse is never a bad colour” and it is up to the WABA to decide

what is a Buckskin and/or Dun and how the colours are classified. Three of the past four shows

have had an ES judge/judges and they were great but we believe that WA judges are not being

considered enough for State level shows. Most of our judges are ignored by ES based

Associations and not given a fair opportunity to qualify as judges in the respective breed

registries . It is sad to think they are not considered more often especially for National shows

here and in the East. Even though we are happy to have ES judges in the future we will also

support those in this state who strive to be ‘good judges’. WA is one of the most isolated horse

breeding precincts in the world and the idea that everything East is better is only doing us harm.

Lets be proud!!!

WABA Committee are very proud to say we have enlisted the services of WA Judge Debbie

Bryant for this years State Championships.
