Year 9 Football Team - A huge well done to our Year 9 football team who made it through to two cup semi finals, the Coventry Cup and West Midlands Cup. It was an incredibly close and exciting game and after extra time the teams were still equally matched and the score was 3-3. Sadly, Newman lost narrowly after some nerve wracking penalties but it was an outstanding team performance! However on Wednesday 1 May the team played against Caludon Castle in the semi final of the Coventry cup and won 1 - 0. Year 10 Football Team - Congratulations to the Year 10 Boys Football team who have progressed to the final of the West Midlands Schools Cup. The details for the final will follow and many thanks to their team manager Mr McLintock for his support. A huge well done to both teams and further details about the finals to follow! Parents’ Evening - We were delighted to welcome parents and students from Year 7 last night for Parents’ Evening. There were lots of happy parents, staff and students at the end of the evening and well done to the vast ma- jority of Year 7 who have made an excellent start at Cardinal Newman. However it is very disappointing that some parents did not attend this important evening to find out about the progress their child is making at school. Research has shown that support from home is one of the most important factors in helping students achieve their academic potential in school and parents must make every effort to attend parents evenings. Messages from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers

Following the tragic and terrible events on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka we pray for all the victims and their

families at this very sad time. During the month of May we pray to Mary, Our Lady Queen of Peace, for

peace in our hearts, in our homes and school community and peace in our troubled world.

Welcome Back - I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and as always it was lovely to welcome all the stu-

dents safely back in assemblies this week. Over the Easter holidays the school was open every day, apart from the bank

holidays, to offer Easter classes to our exam students. Well done to all the students who attended the sessions,

thank you to parents for your support and many thanks, as always, to our wonderful staff who gave up their holidays to

offer the revision sessions.

Leadership Team Important Changes - Attached to this newsletter is a letter informing parents about key

changes from September 2019.

Uniform - We are very proud of our excellent uniform and how smart our students look. Dur-

ing the very hot weather last summer students frequently asked me about a summer uniform.

The Governing Body have agreed to allow students to wear an open necked summer shirt or

blouse that has the school logo on. The summer uniform will be optional and students can still
