School Council Message – David Lee
Hello!
Hope everyone had a terrific holiday break - can't believe we're already here into mid October!
One of the highlights over the break was finding out that Mount View had won a government grant from our Pick My Project campaign!
For a school that has over 1,000 students and two main playgrounds - $198,800 is going to be incredible for our students and others in the local community. It will create new learning possibilities and experiences, and lots of fun and joy as well.
Thank you so so much to everyone who voted and recruited others as well - every vote made the difference.
A special thank you to Merryn Ashcroft who brought this to life with her vision, genuine passion and tireless efforts - it's going to be amazing!
Have a wonderful weekend,
David
School Leadership Message – Glenn Butler, Alison Rees, Christian Holdsworth and Bianca Gatherum
Twilight Carnival 2018
Mount View Primary School is seeking community volunteers to assist with the planning for this year’s Twilight Carnival
which is set for Friday, 16th of November. The overall event is being co-ordinated by a team comprised of school
leadership and parents. A great deal of the scope, logistics and focus work has already been completed in order to
ensure the best activities are available.
We are now calling on everyone to put themselves, and their friends forward, to take responsibility for the individual
aspects of the Twilight Carnival. Small teams need to plan for a range of community. The success of the Twilight
Carnival is readily achieved when we have broad, representative community involvement in the planning. We
encourage the involvement of all parents to ensure that we can share in the success and friendship created by a
Twilight Carnival.

Twilight Carnival Meeting
I encourage everyone interested in helping to come along to the Twilight Carnival Meeting to be held in the Staff Room
on Wednesday, 17th of October at 7 pm so that we can get the plan underway.
SunSmart
In line with the school’s SunSmart Policy, all children are required to wear a school hat while playing outside during
Terms 1 & 4.
Late Arrivals and Pick Ups
Parents are reminded to ensure that their children attend school on time each day. The school day begins at 8:50 am
and all children should be picked up by 3:45 pm each afternoon.
Traffic
Adherence to the road rules around the school is vital to ensure the safety of students and the community. Many
community members share our alarm at the behaviours of many drivers at school drop and pick up times. While
responsibility for adhering to the road rules rests with each driver, the community has an expectation that the school
take responsibility for traffic management. However, the expectation that teachers and school leaders take
responsibility for managing traffic is beyond the scope of the role of educators. VicRoads and the police have authority
to enforce the road rules, not the teachers. The school will begin recording the number plate details of offending
motorists and these will be passed onto VicRoads and the police. The following behaviours will be reported:
U turning in Shepherd Road
Parking across driveways near the school
Double parking
Parking close to the school crossing
Pedestrian jay walking between cars
Recommended positive behaviours are:
Parking 200 - 300 metres from the school and walking to and from the car to the school
Walking to school from home
Be aware of other drivers and their cars
Courteous driving
Use the school crossing

Reminder:
Please make sure that you wait behind the line until the supervisor sounds the whistle twice before crossing the road.
It is also important that parents take their children via the school crossing.
Student Accident Insurance Cover
Parents and guardians are reminded that the Department of Education and Training and Mount View Primary School do not provide accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance and/or ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance, transport and any other related medical costs.
Student accident insurance and ambulance cover policies are available from some commercial insurers and can be obtained by parents and guardians for individual students. For further information please check with your personal insurance company.

Year 4 students going back in time to Preschool!
Last term several year 4 classes visited the kinder
students at Appletree Hill pre-school. They spent
time playing with and getting to know the
students, making mud pies in the sand pit and
creating master pieces at the craft table! Suzanne
Kirby who is the director at Appletree Hill, taught
some of the current year 4 students and they
were delighted to find their photos on the ‘Class
of 13’ noticeboard. The kinder students and the
year 4 students enjoyed spending time together
and may end up being ‘buddies’ as part of the
Year 5 and Prep buddy program in 2019. Building
relationships within our community is an
important part of the transition process from
kinder to school and we are looking forward to
working with all the 2019 prep students at the transition sessions in term 4. After the holidays the
remainder of the year 4 classes will visit the kinder.

Mount View Badminton team
Congratulations to all that competed at MSAC on the 11th of
September. The students displayed great team work and
resilience throughout the competition. Special thanks to Ken, Kim,
Kitty and Mrs Carson for their help with training and coaching
prior to the event and on the day.
We had 4 teams compete, with our teams in the second division
finishing 4th and 5th out of 12 teams and our teams in the open
division finishing 2nd and 5th out of 8 teams. Well done again to all.
Junior Hooptime
Well done to our year 3 and 4 students who represented Mount
View at Dandenong basketball stadium on the 10th of September, it
was a great achievement by all as it was Mount View’s first time
entering into a junior hooptime competition. Our students
displayed great teamwork throughout the day and most of all, they
had fun doing so. A special mention to our All-star Girls team who
are moving onto regional hooptime in term 4. A warm thank you to
all parents, teachers and Holmesglen students who helped make
the day run smoothly.

Division Athletics
The sun was shining as we headed to Knox Athletics track for the Division Athletics Carnival.
23 students finished in 1st or 2nd place and will continue through to the Regional
Championships next week. It was fantastic to see the students showing independence in
warming up prior to their event and getting to their event on time. Congratulations to our
Division Athletics Squad on a fantastic day!
