A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SPIVEY Dear Parents, I hope you and your family are safe and well. The past few weeks have been very difficult. I want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and grace during these unprecedented times. Adhering to the guidance of state and district leadership, HES teachers have been working hard to prepare and deliver remote learning. Teachers are also managing their own children and families. We realize many HES families have limited internet and/or device accessibility. We have mailed paper copies of packets as a result. If you have not received your packet and need one please do not hesitate to contact me. Please remember the role of remote learning and packets is to sustain student learning. Remote learning will not be the same as a traditional classroom setting. Harnett County elementary schools will not issue numeric fourth quarter grades. Teachers will continue to deliver remote learning through May 15. Teachers are expected to provide feedback and support for students during this time. Usually the last quarter of instruction is filled with review and state testing. State testing has been waived due to the Covid 19 pandemic. This gives students and teachers a chance to review without the pressure of high stakes testing. Remote learning requires a shift in thinking. Thank you for your patience as teachers adjust to this change as well. HES has a clear goal with remote learning: 1.) to sustain as much normalcy as possible for your child and 2.) to sustain learning for your child from the 19-20 school year. I know you have many questions for me. As NCDPI and Harnett County district leaders share updates, I will keep you informed. Finally, I want to say thank you. Thank you parents who are working on the front lines. Thank you parents who are suddenly home school teachers. Thank you parents for the grace you are showing Highland Elementary teachers and staff.
