NEWSLETTER Term 4, Week 4
BIG BAD WOLF-Norpa production
The fun started with a trip to Heritage
Park and continued with lots of laughs
and giggles as our school watched the
performance of ‘The Big Bad Wolf’ last
week. The joys of the production gave us
some great discussion starters regarding
accepting differences.

Music Count Us In
We have been participating in the Music Count Us In Program for many
years and this year was no different.
Last Thursday we were among a choir of 700,000 students spread across
Australia. It is the biggest simultaneous sing-along in the world
run by Music Australia and funded by the federal government’s Department
of Education and Training. In 2018, 3500 public and private schools took
part in MCUI “at the same time, on the same day all around Australia”. It
always is such a thrill to count down and have a sense of so many beautiful
voices coming together to celebrate the importance of music.

Writing. Great descriptive paragraph writing from stage two
and three. Here are some samples:
Delicately, the monstrous machine grabs the old rough
camphor logs and hauls them up over the huge truck. It
carefully opens its massive jaws to release the dead
weed. Crash. Next, it walks over to the forest and
wrenches some more trees out of the ground. One by
one, the toxic yellow machine puts them in a pile,
leaving a fine mess. The remaining smaller logs and
branches huddle together seemingly frightened by the
predator. A strong smell of camphor laurel poisons
the air as the birds fly far away from the echoing
noises. Sam
Slowly the delicate monster, places the rough logs
onto the truck. The smell of this scene brings me to a
stop, to reflect on the loveliness of the flora and fauna
in the forest. I hear birds and the cracks of the once
upright standing trees. I hear as they hit the forest
floor. CRUNCH! Giant camphor laurels
are now no more. They are huge logs devoid of life.
The log skidder is dragging them up to be loaded onto
the enormous truck and exported, taken to some people
who will cut and sell them. London
Majestically, the gigantic tree fell to the ground with a
bang, crash and thud. After it fell, screaming silence
filled the air. Inside the core of the log it had a rough
shape of an avocado with the most exquisite smell and
highly detailed swirls. The yellow machine finally tore
the tree away from me, a smile crept onto my face I was
so happy another camphor laurel from my paddock was
gone. Ker plunk another one gone, gone, gone, gone. By
the end of the week the whole paddock was clear. Slowly
I could hear the truck backing away, smell the camphor,
feel the dust and taste the saliva in my mouth. Neisha
Concert practise is underway. Please be
mindful of the date and let us know ASAP if your
child is unavailable for the date. Wednesday, 5th
December.

Library. Last week the primary students gave reviews of the current books they are reading. It is always so satisfying to have these discussions. We have such a wide variety of interests.
Sam has finished the sixth book of ‘The Land of Stories’ by Chris Colfer
Mahika is loving ‘The Bad Guys’ by Aaron Blabey
Marley is reading ‘The House with the Clock in its Walls’ by John Bellaires.
Niesha has just finished number 10 of The Alice Miranda series by Jacquline Harvey. She loves the series so much she decided to write to the author and even enclosed a picture. I have enclosed the letter she received in reply.
STEWART HOUSE
Mahika and Ratu will be going to
Stewart House next week for 10
days. We know they will have a
wonderful time.

৩ K-2 Corner
K-2 Corner In class K-2 children continue to explore the Learner Dispositions and what it means to be resilient, resourceful, reciprocal and reflective learners. Our current focus has been working out how we are resourceful in terms of our learning. Students are engaging in group discussions, peer to peer sharing and writing activities as they unpack their understanding of this key disposition. It is also great to hear the students using the positive language of growth mindsets during discussions as we grow their developing knowledge of what it means to use resources appropriately, ask questions to clarify tasks, seek help when required, use time wisely draw on our imaginations to solve problems and work methodically to complete tasks. All students write about each learner disposition on a personalised bookmark to record their current understanding of what they believe they are doing to demonstrate how they are using the dispositions in their learning.
A great deal of fun was had during our excursion to Lismore to see "The Big Bad Wolf" at NORPA (City Hall). Children and staff all enjoyed a relaxing lunch and a fantastic time playing in the park prior to the show. We all enjoyed the show which portrayed the BBW as a friendly character in need of a friend. Themes of difference and diversity were embraced throughout the performance.

৩ P&C News
1. Park Party: Thank you to all those parents who contributed cakes and their time to make our cake stall a huge success, yet again! The response from the community was awesome and we raised close to $1000. Go team!
2. Ticks: Last term the P&C approved the new recommended guidelines on tick treatment. Ticks will be removed with liquid nitrogen which instantly kills the tick on application allowing for safe removal.
3. Term 4 Canteen: As our students are very busy during this final term the P&C would like to ask if there are any parent volunteers to run the canteen once a month in Week 6 and (possibly) Week 10?
4. Final P&C Meeting Wk 6, 21 November: Due to end of year events and activities, our final meeting will be held in Week 6. We will use this meeting to discuss the Christmas lunch amongst other things. If you would like to add anything to the agenda for our next meeting, email either Zoe ([email protected]) or Kate ([email protected]) and they’ll be
added. Hope to see you there!
