Literacy Day

This has been a very busy week with us getting ready for our big Peranbin Literacy Day today and the new cupboards being fitted in the F/1 classroom and the library. The cupboards look fantastic and it will be great to be able to stow away resources that have been homeless for most of the term.

It was with great pleasure we welcomed Mr. Michael Mc Laughlin to our assembly on Monday morning. As president of the Violet Town’s Lions Club he pre-sented Violet Town campus with a cheque for $1,000.00. We are very grateful for their on going support over the years.

Lions’ Club Surprise Visit.

What a great day we had with guest presenters running writing workshops and marimba playing sessions. The campus was abuzz with stories, characters, young writers and enthusiastic marimba players. Teachers also ran a variety of sessions to support our young writers. The work produced today will form part of the display you will see at our Writing Festival on Wednesday August 31st. Please be on the lookout for your personal invitation to come and join us on this special night.. Coming soon!

Year 4/5/6 with Miss Bedford

Foundation and Year 1 with Mrs. B.

This week we have worked hard on our spelling and adding interesting words to our writing to make it more powerful. Friday’s Peranbin Literacy Day reinforced our daily class-room work and it was great to share it with other students from the College. We hope to see as many families as possi-ble come along to our Writer’s Festival on August 31st where we will be able to showcase some of our work. Many students enjoy recording their own home reading books and this is a sign of their growing literacy independ-ence but l would however ask for parents to initial the books as well. Our Student of the Week is Corey Williams who is working hard to settle into the routine of the classroom. Keep up the good work Corey.

Year 2/3 with Miss Fitzpatrick Student of the week this week is Belle Young – Thanks Belle for always being organised – with your reader and your homework tasks. Great job! This week we continued to read about the Olympic Games. Most chil-dren completed an acrostic poem about the Olympics, and we edited and worked towards publishing our stories from our Big Write last week. In Maths we have counted by 12s. Our main focus in Maths this week was ‘Bigger Numbers’, so we have played place-value number games, creating numbers of 4 digits. We also worked on making and reading numbers of four digits in the thousands for Year 2, and 5 digit numbers for Year 3. Thanks for helping your child with the Smart Spelling homework these past two weeks, and continuing to support your child with their reader. Next week- we will be back to ‘Big Homework” with a Big Talk for our next Big Write. The Year 3/4 Camp at 15 Mile Creek is coming up fast! – Week 9. Please be on the lookout for a reminder note next week with more finalizing details about pick ups etc. Have a good weekend!

I cannot believe how quickly this term is flying by! We are enjoying following Australia and the rest of the world’s Olympic success. I hope that the children are feeling inspired and can learn lots over the next couple of weeks. In maths we have continued extending our knowledge and understanding of fractions including mixed and improper fractions and addition and subtraction of fractions with the same and different denominators. Our Big Write for this week was Animal Olympics. Each student chose a setting e.g. out-back Australia, ocean etc. and researched the animals found and what Olympic events the animals would best be suited to. The student of the week for this week is Ruby Jackson for excellent listening skills and always having a positive attitude.

Meaningful and powerful writing

comes from the heart. Students

mapped out those things close to

their own hearts.
