This week we have had many special occasions. The whole school came together for the annual Christmas Assembly and P2 performed their Nativity – Whoops a daisy angel. Many thanks for all the donations. P2 raised £141.55 for the Brains Trust.

Over the past 2 weeks all children from P3 to P7 went to the magical performance of Peter Pan and Wendy at the Lyceum.

Thanks to all the parents who were able to come and help.

The winner of the Towerbank Christmas Chess League was Team F: Rhona Mylne (6), Duncan Milligan (7), Joe Regan (6) and Alicia Sayers (6). 32 players took part and it was very close in the end. Congratulations to them and Merry Christmas to everyone in the Towerbank Chess Club. The club will resume on the first Tuesday of the new term.

Congratulations to Cameron McBain P6C for winning the Scottish Books Trust 50 Words Christmas Competition. He wrote a rather scary tale of witches and snowmen! http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/reading/the-50-word-fiction-competition#winners

Well done to the children who went to sing Christmas songs at Lauder Lodge this week.

£1 Challenge

The P7 £1 challenge took place last Friday and it was a huge success. Each child from P7 was able to create a business from a £1 provided by the school. They shared their products and business ideas with P6, parents, carers and one another. The children learned more about being an entrepreneur, budgeting and advertising to support their business. Well done to everyone that took part and a thank you to parents and carers for their support with this project. A third of the money raised will go to a charity of the children's choice, a third will go to school funds and the other third will be used towards a reward for the P7's and their hard work.

P5A have been talking and thinking about the charity UNICEF and who they help. We saw pictures of some children who don’t have food, shelter or water and we all wanted to do fundraising to make a difference. We looked up information about UNICEF and we learned that it stands for United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, which is now shortened to United Nations Children’s Fund. We watched video clips about their amazing work and we researched some ambassadors for UNICEF like Rita Ora and David Beckham. In the end we decided to raise money just from our class just by bringing it in. Some people gave money instead of having a snack, a treat, getting a new book, going to the football end-of-year event and so on. Katie suggested that we write a card to send with our donation so she made that with Aaron and Ellis. Lucas and Nathan counted up the money last Friday and we are very proud to have raised £67.18. In P6 French we've been making shops and other places you would find in a French town. We've also learned how to say lots of foods and drinks which we added to our shops, as well as practising a shop or café conversation. Here are just two examples of the fantastic range of boulangeries, markets, cafés and restaurants which are on display.

Happy Christmas and New Year holidays to everyone in the Towerbank Family.

Children are back at school on Wednesday 9th January.
