From the President’s Pen…

The last four months of 2012 has proven to be another historic time for the PA State Fox & Coyote Hunter’s Association. In September, we completed our Two –Day Field Trial and Bench Show, submitting Jim Rogers’ Sherry Lee to the Chase magazine as our BIS and PA State Bench Champion. Congratulations Jim!

We are indebted to the Honorable Frank Hall, Moravia, New York, who did a marvelous job as Bench Show Judge.

The full Field Trial report appears below:

PA State Two-Day Speed & Drive Field Trial

Great weather, good game conditioning and superb hounds combined to make another memorable PA State Two-Day Field Trial. Kipp Adcock did a great job serving as Master of Hounds, while David Wride and his family provided computer operations. A sincere thank you to the following judges: Dick Bednarczyk, Richard Ross, Jerry Ross, Kipp Adcock, David Hall, Cas Bonczewski, David Wride, Dave Susz, Jack Sorber, Chip Sorber, Walter Vosefski and Tim Carr. We are also grateful to Gene, Staci and Richard Molyneaux who continue to host many of our events and are continually responsive to all of our requests.

A major support element was our “break up” crew comprised of Paul Conway, Mike Jaskulski, Tyler Huffman, Bob, Meghan and BJ Clark. This group assisted the Molyneaux Family in the protection of game and hounds and kept the chase moving.

Special thanks to the folks behind the scenes. Sometimes we forget to give the credit to those who work the hardest during our field trial. They cooked, cleaned, sold merchandise, set up the booths, tore them down and performed a countless number of other tasks.

They are: Martin Carr Jr., Jerry Ross, Amy and Dave Peterson, Wade and Carol Gray, Debbie Wride and Dawn Keane.

We are also grateful to those who donated salads and a wide variety of spectacular baked goods and our faithful sponsors: Prowler-Quick Track, Bill Doney’s Thunder Valley Pet Pantry and Sportmix Dog Food.

Finally, thank you to all from Pennsylvania, New York and Canada, who entered hounds in this year’s event. None of this would be possible if it were not for your support.

PA State Fox & Coyote Hunter’s Assn. Supporter Publishes Foxhound Book

Todd Addis, VMD, recently published “Our Penn-Marydel Hound – A Historical Anthology”. Dr. Addis explains –“No matter what strain of hound you hunt, their origin is discussed”. The third section of the book expands on the hunting careers of a dozen illustrious huntsmen in the first half of the 20th century. The book also includes “present time” pictures and accounts of Member Bob Cragle’s hounds, as well as a two- page contribution from Member Sean Culley. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Sharp of Glenmore are also quoted at length concerning Mrs. Sharp’s father –Walter Hill, Huntsman for Eagle Farms Hunt.

To order call: Master of Foxhound Assn. “MFHA” (540) 955-5680 or order online from www.mfha.com. The book costs $39.00 plus $4.00 postage.

Promotional material will be available at the Annual Meeting or may be obtained now from Dick Bednarczyk. We have also purchased a copy which will be awarded at the Annual Meeting.

PA State Fox & Coyote Hunter’s to Hold Coyote Tournament

Once again, the PA State Fox & Coyote Hunter’s Assn. will conduct a season long, member’s only, trophy only, Coyote Tournament. The competition will be conducted under an “Honor” system, merely requiring registered hunters to provide the certified weight, along with a suitable picture. Since we have members from six states and Canada, the contest will be open to all states and Canadian provinces, wherever legal. Our substantial ‘Challenge Trophy” will be awarded for the heaviest coyote, which will be replaced by a replica after one year. Trophies will also be awarded for the ten heaviest entries. Entry fees will be $10.00 for the event. Entry forms will accompany 2013 membership billings which will be sent shortly.

Coyote Tournament Expanded – More Trophies, Youth Division Included

In response to requests by several members, recently our coyote tournament was expanded to include a youth division – recently won by Ron Soley. For purposes of clarity and uniformity, a youth will be considered as holding a PA Junior Hunting License, or the equivalent, for members from other states and Canada. Mentored Youths will also be eligible.

Do We Have Your Current E-Mail Address? Home Address?

With increasing frequency, the PA State Fox & Coyote Hunter’s Assn. uses e-mail for all Association business, as well as for response to individual queries from members. At present we maintain e-mail addresses for approximately 50 % of our membership. In the event that we may not have your address or that you have changed your internet provider, please provide your address to Dick Bednarczyk at [email protected], assuming that you are willing to do so. Be assured that it is the policy of the Association to restrict this medium for official business, or to respond to requests from members. In the event that you do not have e-mail capability, please note that a letter supplements all e-mailed messages, when it is appropriate or necessary to do so.

Remember to Nominate Your Youngsters For Awards

Again this year we will be promoting our award program to include “First Turkey”, or “First Coyote” in addition to the ‘First Deer” or “First Bear” awards. The PA Game Commission will provide certificates for youngsters who take a deer, bear or turkey, while the Association will present our own “First Coyote” Certificate. Members are requested to notify Dick Bednarczyk about the successful hunters and provide a digital photo, if one is available.
