The Rampage Band Instruments: A Descripve Text By: Max Niemoller (5th grade French) Gabriel Luke-Judy (5th grade French) Joseph Youakim (5th grade French) There are many types of band instruments at this school. The types available include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and reeds. There are 4 music families. They are woodwind, strings, brass, and percus- sion. The hardest instrument to play in the whole school is the oboe. It is the hard- est instrument to play because it is expensive, requires paence and it is diffi- cult to make the sound. There really is not an easy instrument . If Mr. Suon had to consider one, it would be the clarinet because it is one of the most successful starter instru- ment. The most popular instrument in the whole school is the clarinet . Fun fact we learned from Ms. Olshausen: We used to have a 5th grade long ago, but they took it away because they didnt have enough money. Just this year, they just added it back as a before school acvity. And Mr. Suon loves his 65 5th grade band students! We give lots of credit to Mr. Suon for giving us all this wonderful infor- maon! Teacher Appreciation Week!

Congratulations to Frau Smith’s 5th grade German class for collecting the most Box Tops for our Spring Contest. Together they collected 599 Box Tops and are the new winners of our Traveling Trophy! They celebrated last Friday by having a Pajama Day for the class and re-ceived a Certificate of Appreciation. Our next Box Tops contest will involve individual prizes to the students who collect the most Box Tops. Keep an eye out later this month for more information and keep collecting!!!

Spring Box Top Winners!

Teacher Appreciation week is coming up and each language will be hosting a breakfast or luncheon for the 130 Waddell Teachers and support staff. The German luncheon will be on May 9th. Please help show our great Waddell Family how much we appreciate all they do to educate, support and care for our kids. We are asking for you to sign up to bring an item (or items) from the list on Wednesday, May

9th by 9:45am to the Front Office. Please label your tray/container so we can return it to you after the event. The PTSO will provide the Money for the Bratwursts for the event.

The luncheon will be from 10:15am-1:15pm, and Teachers will be stopping by as their classes have lunch. The luncheon is only for Teachers and staff but we would love to have help setting up beforehand and cleaning up afterwards.

May 16th—No School for Planned Teacher’s March in Raleigh Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will close schools on May 16, when teachers plan to

march in Raleigh for better pay and working conditions. CMS officials had reviewed the

number of teachers who had filed for personal leave and decided they could not safely

and effectively conduct classes in the state's second-largest district. CMS has more than

9,000 teachers.

LICE Removal Option Dena Black is the owner of the Lice Clinics of America in Matthews. Throughout the year we hear about lice, whether at

our school or other schools. We hear about a common problem…Super Head Lice. Most parents and schools are still in

the “HUSH” mode and do not care to address the problem. But if this issue is not confronted it

spreads quickly and becomes a nightmare for everyone. Lice Clinics of America are here to

help, when you get a quick minute please check their site at www.liceclinicssouthcharlotte.com.

This site has information that is excellent for our parents. They are the only clinic in NC and SC

that has an FDA cleared medical device. This treatment is about an hour and they are lice free

when they leave the clinic. NO CHEMICALS AND NO PESTICIDES.

INVEST IN YOUR CHILD

Invest in Your Child (IYC) is the Waddell PTSO spring capital campaign. You simply write a check and every dollar goes to the

Waddell PTSO to support our school. We hope after reaching out to extended family and friends in the Fall during the Fun Run,

the support of IYC will fall more to the nuclear family. You can donate to IYC anytime, but we will have a couple of weeks in the

spring where we will ask for donations. The sky is the limit here! Yet, if every family contributed only $50 per student, it would

not only help cover our always evolving budget, but help to ensure the Waddell PTSO being able to provide more big ticket items

to the school in the future. Look out for more IYC information in the spring. Until then, please direct any questions

to [email protected].

If your employer participates in an employee matching program, many businesses do so in the fall. Please consider giving at this

time to maximize the benefit to our school. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] or

look over the Employer Matching portion of the website.

If you choose to participate in IYC and would like to make a donation, you may do so at any time. Your donation is fully tax de-

ductible and our TAX ID is 81-1630184.

Details on how to participate can be found here: http://waddellptso.org/fundraising/invest-in-your-child-iyc/
