MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF EATON FIRST CHURCH OF GOD AUGUST 2015

October Sermon Series: The Harvest is Plentiful! Come join us Sunday mornings in October as we learn about the good news of Jesus Christ. Come join us as we dis-cover that the harvest is plentiful! October 4: The Harvest is Plentiful with the Promise & Grace of Jesus

The promise of grace and forgiveness. God has promised eternal life to us as a free gift through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23). This gift and promise is unearned and undeserved (Titus 3:5a). Come discover the gift and promise of God’s grace in Jesus, come discover that The Harvest is Plentiful!

October 11: The Harvest is Plentiful in Spite of Our Sin & Brokenness

The problem of our sin and brokenness. All of us have sinned (Romans 3:23), and our problem is that we cannot fix or save ourselves (Eph. 2:8-9). Come learn how sin leaves us broken, empty and barren. Come learn how left to our own sin and selves we can never experience that the harvest is plentiful.

October 18: The Harvest is Plentiful because of the Love & Salvation of Jesus

The solution to our deepest problem is Jesus. Jesus is the only solution to our sin and brokenness. He paid for our sins and purchased eternal life for us (I Peter 2:24). Only in Jesus do we experience the fullness of God and the fullness of our humanity (Colossians 2:9). Come discover that in the person of Jesus we experience that the harvest is plentiful.

October 25: The Harvest is Plentiful when we commit to Follow Jesus

We find purpose for our lives as we commit to following Je-sus. Faith is more than facts or feelings (James 2:19), its about putting our trust in Jesus alone (Acts 16:31). Faith is about our obedience to following Jesus. Come discover that the harvest is plentiful as we faith-fully follow after Jesus.

Worship Arts Ministry JOIN A WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY! All of our worship arts ministry areas welcome all skill levels, we just want people with hearts for worship, love for God, and teachable spirits! Read the descriptions below or contact Liisa to find out how you can get involved. CHOIR – We rehearse Wednesdays from 7:00-8:15 in the sanctuary. It’s not too late to join us for our fall season. We sing 2-3 times a month, with one featured song a month. We are also beginning to prepare for our Christmas Celebration. All experience levels are welcome! WORSHIP BAND – If you play piano, guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard, this is the ministry for you! We are in need of new musicians to join our worship band rotation. Even if you don’t have much experience, talk to Liisa about get-ting plugged in. TECH TEAM – If you love working behind-the-scenes, have good attention to detail, and have an interest in tech-nology, the tech team is a great way to get plugged into the worship at E1COG. We are in need of more team members to run our sound board and our multimedia projection. No experience is necessary, we can train you!

If you are interested in any of these ministry opportunities, or any other creative arts (drama, dance, visual art), contact Liisa ([email protected]). We’d love to have you join our team!

Seeds for the Harvest: Planting today for the harvest of tomorrow It is exciting to see how God is using our church fami-ly to help expand His eternal kingdom in the hearts and lives of people. For some time the church has discussed the need to enhance and expand our park-ing, sanctuary space, and narthex area (entrance ar-ea to the church building).

To effectively address these needs, our church has made the progressive decision to conduct a three-year Capital Fund Campaign. We have set a challenging goal to raise at least $450,000. To reach our goal will take each of us making sacrificial financial commitments (over-and–above our regular giving to the church general budget) over the next three years. These will be exciting days of decision for our church. Let’s do something so great that God will be honored and praised by our committed response!

HUDDLE GROUPS ARE STARTING One of the exciting events in our Capital Fund Campaign is our “Huddle Groups” ministry. The purpose of the HUDDLES is to connect people in a small group setting to hear about our campaign project. Join us for this spe-cial time of food, fellowship, and sharing about the Church’s future! Groups are meeting on October 1st through the 4th. Contact the Church office or email Karen Bryant at [email protected] to join one of these groups. SEEDS FOR THE HARVEST PRAYER SERVICE, OCTOBER 31st - 7:00pm Come join us for a special time and service of prayer on Saturday, October 31st at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary. The Bible reminds us that “the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.” (James 5:16 NLT) Come join us as we pray for the ministry of our Church, for the needs of persons in our congregation, and the concerns facing our community. ADVANCE COMMITMENT DINNER An “Advance Commitments Dinner” is being planned as a part of our Capital Fund Campaign. The dinner is for adults and scheduled for the evening of October 13th. If you are interested in more information and possibly at-tending, please contact the Church office before the reservation deadline of October 6th.

OCTOBER DATES TO REMEMBER: 10/11 - Choir scheduled, singing “Hosanna, Lord of Everything" 10/23 - WAM Fun Night at Wesler Orchard; apples & pumpkins, hayride, and bonfire! 10/25 - Nursing Home Ministry at Greenbriar 10/25 - Choir scheduled, no feature
