Alianza and La Coalicio n unite forces to prevent underage drinking Alianza y La Coalición unen fuerzas para prevenir el consumo de alcohol en menores

According to a preview of the 2018 Youth Drug Survey (YDS), 8 % equivalent to 183 youth out of 2,391 respondents,

reported drinking at a festival or a concert. This happens when adults over the age of 21 drink too much, do not

monitor their drinks, and in some cases provide sips or alcohol to minors. On May of 2018 the Latin American Coali-

tion and Alianza created a partnership that will reduce underage drinking at Latino festivals. Alianza will be doing ID

checks at the bar areas so alcohol is restricted to adults over the age of 21. To support this effort and volunteer at

De acuerdo con un avance de la Encuesta de Drogas Juveniles 2018 (YDS,

por sus siglas en inglés), el 8% equivalente a 183 jóvenes de los 2,391

encuestados, informó que bebío en un festival o en un concierto. Esto

sucede cuando los adultos mayores de 21 años beben demasiado, no

vigilan sus bebidas y, en algunos casos, les dan sorbos o alcohol a los

menores. En mayo del 2018, la Coalición Latinoamericana y Alianza crea-

ron una asociación que reducirá el consumo de alcohol por menores de edad en los festivales latinos. Alianza realizará

controles de identificación en las áreas del bar, para restringir el alcohol a adultos mayores de 21 años. Para apoyar

The Alianza Executive Team was thrilled to be able to join Alianza staff members for the North Carolina Coalition Summit in Raleigh this month. We heard from NC Attorney General Josh Stein as well as other leaders in Substance Misuse Preven-tion, and were given the opportunity to present infor-mation about our own efforts working with Charlotte's Latino Community. It was encouraging to see so many youth in attendance, and the energy and enthusiasm for this important cause was contagious. We are eager to utilize the tools and information we obtained at this meeting as we continue our work here in Charlotte-Mecklenburg! - Brant Aycok III, Alianza Chair

El equipo ejecutivo de Alianza estuvo encantado de poder unirse a los miembros del personal de Alianza en la Cumbre de la Coalición de Carolina del Norte en Ra-leigh este mes. Escuchamos al Fiscal General de Carolina del Norte, Josh Stein, así como a otros líderes en Pre-vención del Uso Indebido de Sustancias, y se nos brindó la oportunidad de presentar información sobre nuestros esfuerzos trabajando con la Comunidad Latina de Char-lotte. Fue alentador ver a tantos jóvenes presentes, y la energía y el entusiasmo por esta importante causa fueron contagiosos. ¡Estamos ansiosos de utilizar las herramientas y la información que obtuvimos en esta reunión mientras continuamos nuestro trabajo aquí en Charlotte-Mecklenburg!
