Letter from the President

August Greetings,

Arts in Bartlett is moving full steam ahead! We are preparing for the move to our new Center for the Arts in the Town Center. We are going through our collection of items in the basement storage of our current location and preparing to have a garage sale soon. We are also get-ting items for the renovation of the new location, and there will be work that requires people power, such as painting. If you are willing to assist in the process, please contact us by email

([email protected]) or phone (630-372-4152).

In addition, we will be working on other fundraisers, especially “12 for 12”. Details on this are in the newsletter on page

11.

Our monthly Dine-Around for the Arts fundraising program continues. Each month we encourage members, friends and families to support a local restaurant that is sponsoring us by giving a percentage of the sales to Arts in Bartlett. The Au-gust Dine-Around will take place at Nicodino’s Pizza Co. and Café on the 6th from 5 to 10 p.m. . Please take advantage

of good food, with good company, for a good cause!

It’s still our membership that sustains Arts in Bartlett, a volunteer-run arts council, so please continue to support us with your membership and invite new individuals, organizations and businesses to join. It is this grassroots advocacy that grows the arts. Now is a perfect time to join or encourage others to join during our Summer Membership Special Rate. Those joining now will enjoy benefits during the rest of 2014 and all of 2015. Go to Join Us page on our website to join online or to

get information on sending in a check.

If you are able to volunteer at our Center for the Arts, especially on Saturdays, but also when Art Center Director Ce-cilia Green is out of town on Thursday or Friday, please let us know. Please contact us through phone, email or website,

as found in this newsletter.

We really need our membership’s input and brainstorming on fundraising, sponsorships, membership drives, program-ming and more. All Arts in Bartlett members are invited to come to the next Board meeting on August 25 at 6:30pm in the Log Cabin. We hope that you feel an investment to bring the arts to Bartlett, volunteer to join a committee, attend our

events, and spread the news about Arts in Bartlett, a vibrant arts council!

Thanks!

Rita Lopienski

W hen Ron Jurcy from Streamwood retired from 30 years of owning his own import business, he thought

he’d try his hand at painting, a hobby that puzzled his golf buddies. Still golfing and painting, Ron has enjoyed

some success at selling work, much to his surprise. He credits a teacher with showing him how to look at things

differently, so he called his July oil and acrylic exhibit at Bartlett Village Hall “Art Through My Eyes.”

W ith an increasing demand for existing programs and studio space for artists and musicians, Arts in

Bartlett, the local nonprofit arts council founded in 2002, has signed a lease with Bartlett Commercial LLC to

move its Bartlett Center for the Arts to 215 S. Main Street in Town Center.

“When we moved three years ago to our 3rd location at 118 W. Bartlett Ave,” said Cecilia Green, Arts Center

Director, “we thought we were set for several years.”

However, with the addition of Color My World Children’s Art Studio and Dorothy Deen’s Cello Studio, the in-terest in these and other programs and inquiries for more studios exceeded what could be provided in the 1300 sq. ft. space. With more than 220 members, many of those being family memberships that include at least three people, Arts in Bartlett’s reach has nearly tripled in the past two years. Now more than 100 children come through the Color My World Children’s Art Studio each week and an active adult art lesson series, the International Chorus rehearsals and networking groups fill the Arts Center each week. “It was clear that to continue to work toward the vision of Bartlett and the surrounding community as one

that values and supports the arts, we must launch a new growth initiative,” said President Rita Lopienski.

“We saw the momentum building for the cultural arts to have an even larger impact on Bartlett’s economy

and quality of life.”

Wanting to stay in downtown Bartlett, Cecilia Green, director of the Arts Center, began working with Robert Perri, broker with GC Realty & Development LLC in Bartlett to find a larger space. After considering several options, Perri worked with Barry Millman of Horizon Realty Service to secure the former Black Tie Salon loca-tion with 2,750 sq. ft. “We liked the interesting architectural features, the front windows to make the gallery very visible, and a performance space with high ceilings,” Green said. “And the fact there was already six studio spaces built out will make our renovations much easier.” Five studios are already spoken for and will be occu-pied by Dorothy Deen’s Cello Studio; Kathryn Ben-ton’s Color My World Children’s Art Studio; graphic designer Darren Brady, photographer Windy Brady and artists Linda Kinnaman and Jenny Vogt will share a space. Anyone interested in the last studio should contact [email protected] or call 630-372-4152 for an application.

Growth Prompts Arts in Bartlett’s Move to Bartlett’s Town Center

Arts in Bartlett hopes to move into Town Center in October. “We are fortunate that many of our members

are donating labor, so our budget is principally for materials and the required licensed professionals for elec-

tric and plumbing,” Green said.

The move is also being aided by a state Youth Employment Grant that provides up to 80 hours of paid work

for high school students, by donations from

home supply stores and by a generous donation

by patron Jeanette Edwards. More than $2,000

was raised this year in donations to a Growth

Fund.

A digital fundraising campaign called

“12x12x12” will be launched later in August ask-

ing local residents to go on artsinbartlett.org to

donate $12 a family by the 12th month

(December) during its 12th Anniversary Year. A
