MAJOR’S MUTTERINGS
Greetings and salutations Midlanders!
This is my last muttering for this caravanning year. Seems like I did jinx the weather in last month’s newsletter because since then, we have had floods, icy temperatures and snow, hope you all got through it and are looking forward to warmer times ahead. Hopefully the rain and snow has or still will supplement our dam levels.
Our last rally, over the weekend of 22nd – 24th July, was held at Rocky Bay, thank you Billy for officiating on my behalf. As I understand it was a wet affair but I also feel that it’s the company you are with that makes a rally not the weather. See rally report elsewhere.
Ron & Rose, Lindley & Jean and Rhoda, Maxiene and I went to Richards Bay Caravan Park that same weekend to join North Coast Region for their 40th Birthday celebrations, also a wet weekend but most enjoyable.
As I mentioned last month, there was an “un-official” rally at Bee Hive in preparation for Rally SA in 2018, eight families ventured out in the cold for the weekend and quite a few folk came out for the meeting on Saturday. There were plenty of ideas / suggestions thrown around and in my opinion a very fruitful weekend was held, an inaugural committee was also chosen to take things forward. Thanks to all who made the effort, much appreciated.
Our 40th Birthday Rally is not far off, first weekend in November in fact. There is a flyer included with this newsletter, please let Sally know ASAP if you are thinking of attending, catering, etc. needs to be sorted.
3
The AGM will be held at Queensburgh Caravan Park again this year on Saturday 20 August, please try and be there. Your subs should have already been paid by now, so if you haven’t then please do so asap, bear in mind that at AGM you need to be a fully paid-up member to vote, voice your opinion, etc. The next rally is obviously the AGM Rally at Queensburgh over the weekend of 19th – 21st August. If you are not coming to the rally then please make time to attend the AGM on Saturday morning at 09h00. See Chief Rally Convenors report elsewhere.

and a pinch of creativity”

Cheers till next time, God willing I will see many of you at the AGM at Queensburgh, safe tow and safe travelling.

PRO’S REPORT Greetings to all Midlands Members.
Wow- it has been very “Bbbrrr” lately. The Drakensberg looked so beautiful with the snow
and we are thankful for the little rain we have had in the Midlands.
Our heartfelt condolences are with Dave Kotze on the death of his Mom, on 20th July 2016.
Mother- in- law to Beryl, a granny and a great granny.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Sheila Pellew on the death of her father and father-in-law
of Bill, on 24th July 2016.
May God give the Kotze and Pellew families the comfort and peace that they need.
You are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you strength and courage to face the days
ahead of you.
Ken Gillham has gone through a very difficult time lately. He developed a blockage in his
leg and was rushed to Westville Hospital where he underwent surgery. Two days after his
discharge, he was again rushed, for the 2nd time, to Hilton Life Hospital and had to have
another full bypass with a vein taken out of his good leg and transplanted to the other leg.
Ken was in ICU for a couple of days again. The operation was a success and we are very
grateful. Ken did have complications with his lungs due to the 2 anaesthetics, but is feeling
better every day. Ken, take it easy and rest as much as you can.
Johnny is going for physio treatments to release the stiffness in his back, but is still not pain-
free. He says that on some days he feels better than on others, but is positive that he will be at
Queensburgh.
Glenda Bennett is still experiencing terrible pain and her movements are very restricted. She
has seen the orthopedic surgeon who said she has to have an operation as soon as possible.
A motivational letter has been sent to the medical aid for approval.
Lindley Siepman has been ill for the past 7 weeks. He has a terrible cough, especially when
he tries to talk, and the doctors cannot say what it is. The coughing is exhausting and
Lindley is not himself. He has an appointment with a Specialist Pulmonologist on the 28th
August 2016. Lindley, we hope that there will be a cancellation before the 28th.
Isabella Mare had a bad fall, hitting her head hard on the ground. The doctor has advised her
not to drive, and to keep still for a while.
Please keep Ken, Johnny, Glenda, Lindley, Bish, Lesley, Val and Isabella in your prayers for
good health and a speedy recovery to each.

Our dear scribe- lady, Sharon, and husband Kevin Leonard, are very excited. They are flying
on the 2nd August 2016 to USA for their son, Vaughn’s wedding in Bayard, Nebraska.
Vaughn is getting married to Marlena Meloney on the 6th August 2016.We all wish them a
long and happy marriage with more than a fence running around their yard!
Dallas & Tessa King are visiting their son in London and meeting their granddaughter,
Rozabell. Enjoy your visit and all the cuddles.

27th Gordon & Rhoda Major (30)
Happy Anniversary! May your love and devotion inspire all who surround you, and may you
be blessed with all the gifts that life has to offer.
Well, what big excitement for our precious little granddaughter, who
decided that she wanted to meet us sooner than the 12th July 2016. Jamie
was born on the 6th July 2016, first child to our daughter Giselle and son-
in- law Quintus van Wyk. Weighing 2.920kg by emergency
C-section. Mom and Jamie are doing well. Dereck and myself are very
proud grandparents.
Dave and Beryl Kotze were in the
UK visiting their daughter Rayanne
and met their 6th grandchild. Lori
Mae was born on the 11th July 2016,
precious little girl to Rayanne and
Don Armand and sister to brother, Miles, weighing in at 3.8kg. Mom and baby are doing
well. Grandpa Dave and Granny Beryl are so proud of all their grandchildren.
9
Congratulations to Giselle and Quintus, Rayanne and Don. May your life
be filled with love, joy and
laughter with your new
baby girls.
Wishing you all a pleasant
month and will hopefully
see you all at the AGM at
Queensburgh.
Please may I also remind you to bring a plate of eats for tea after the AGM.
Much appreciated – Anita
RALLY REPORT - ROCKY BAY
As our esteemed chairman was visiting the North Coast Region for their 40th birthday, it was
left to me to officiate for the weekend. Trust you had a good visit and bade them our
congratulations, Gordon. Must say, it was most unusual not to have Gordon, Rhoda and
Maxiene with us for the weekend.
Everyone arrived to a windy Rocky Bay on Friday with the weather threatening. Jacks down
and then we mingled with old friends and visitors alike.
At last the rain seems to have arrived throughout the Province, thank you Lord.
It was a real pleasure to have Eddie and Tracy Smythe with their daughter, Lauren, as first
time visitors, as well as Wynand and Bernadette De Swart who arrived with their XCape off
roader. They joined in the banter and fun and would be an asset to any region as members.
Hopefully they will join Midlands again soon. Franchesca and Bella were also present all the
way from Dubai. Good to see the girls again! I am sure that Terry and Gail were happy to
have them visit.
Sadly Ken and Noeline, who were to marshal with Carol and myself, could not make it as
Ken was not well. You guys were sorely missed at the rally. Derek and Anita kindly stepped
up to the plate and marshalled with us. Thank you for that, you guys are always willing to
assist.
A great meal of fish and chips was enjoyed on Friday evening by everyone. That was a
masterstroke, Noeline & Carol. Thereafter, everyone settled down to the normal Friday
evening of fun and games.
10
Saturday was cold and rainy but that did not dampen the spirits. Laughter could be heard
from several awnings, except from the Sharks supporter’s tent, which seemed to be in
mourning. Come evening, we all settled under the gazebos, out of the rain, to celebrate with
Norman and Yvonne McGladdery as well as Terry and Gail Schefermann who had achieved
their 25th National rally milestones. Well done guys.
A very tasty communal stir fry was then prepared and enjoyed, accompanied by Dereck’s
pleasant “langarm” music.
Sunday saw more rain and once again, all gathered under the gazebos for friendlies. There-
after, it was jacks up and home.
Please remember to pay your subs if you wish to have a say at AGM.
Cheers and good health.
Billy Cawood.
Scribe’s last say.
A Smile for the Day
At a recent rally, I heard this story as I went “down the avenue”. ☺☺ Eish!!
Three men were talking about their teenage daughters. The first man said – “A waz looking for somethink in my daughta’s room the ada day and found a packet of cigarettes. I was really shocked, no! I didn’t even know she smoked” M. The second man said – “That’s nothing. I was looking for somethink in my daughta’s room the ada day when I came across a full bottle of Vodka. I was really shocked, yes. I didn’t even know she drankM.how” The third man spoke up. “Both of you guys got nothing to worry about. I was looking for somethink in my daughta’s room the ada day and I found a packet of condoms”. “Serias?” “Serias! I was really shocked, neM. I didn’t even know she has the penas!”

A parting shot: The hardest decision in life is to know which bridge to cross and which one to burn!
Go well and keep safe. See you soon --- at the AGM Noeline ☺
