On Sunday the 21st of October, I travelled to Hobart in Tasmania to compete in the youth touch football National Championships over the course of the week we played each state once. We were successful in defeating all states but Queensland. On Friday we finished our round games in second position taking us through to the grand final. Unfortunately Queensland won the grand final 11 to 3 leaving us with the silver medal. It was a great experience and an enjoyable week. On Wednesday the 31st October, Ruben Toga and I went to state for discus. I threw about 26 metres and I was competing the top 41 under/12 discus throwers in the State. I came 19th. Ruben threw 7 metres and was competing the top 31 10 year old boys and came 20th. Caitlyn Halse Year 6 Student

Picton Public School entered the Wollondilly Council Garden Competition and we placed

3rd in the Best School Children’s Garden. We received a $50 gift voucher to Mitre 10. We

have purchased wire for the trellis for the raspberries and netting to protect the strawber-

ries. I would like to thank all of the students and parents who have contributed to the

beautiful gardens at Picton Public School.

Due to the Plover family nesting in our top playground the Oztag team games, which were to occur for Term 4 cannot take

place at the moment. Hopefully once the eggs have hatched and the family moves on

(approximately 2 weeks), we can resume normal playground activities and Oztag can

Leadership Speeches

Well done to all our brave and inspiring Year 5 students who delivered their speeches this week. There

were some great initiatives shared. Student votes are currently being counted. Congratulations to all

of you for your efforts and participation!

Supervision

It was brought to my attention yesterday that there is an increased amount of students waiting

outside the school gate on View St for a substantial period of time. For safety reasons we would

appreciate a call if you are running late so that we can ensure supervision for your child. If this is a

regular occurrence, then your child needs to wait at the front of the school on coloured seats where

there is a teacher on duty. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Kindergarten Orientation

Congratulations to Mrs Boyd for her outstanding organisation of the day. The students were

wonderful, fitting in with the morning’s rotations. Thank you to all the teachers involved for their

hard work and dedication

P & C Donations

Thank you to the P & C team for your contributions to our school. $5000 has been provided to

support the purchase of I Pads in Term 3 and a further $4000 has been committed to purchase

beautiful furniture for our school library. The teachers and students are so grateful for your support.

2019 Classes

We are currently looking at our school structure for 2019. If you are aware your child is leaving our

school we would appreciate a letter/email as student numbers play an important part in the decision-

making process and does affect staffing levels.

Thank you to those parents that have informed me of their child’s needs and learning requirements

for 2019. Updates of medical reports and health care plans are very helpful in readiness for next

year. If you haven’t contacted us as yet, please do so in writing to the class teacher, stage leader or

myself. Please do not leave your concerns to the last week. We work very hard to ensure your child’s

transition to the new year is pleasant and we do our best to cater for their educational needs.

The school is pleased to announce that we have partnered with ‘The School Locker’ to offer our school uniforms from the 26th November. The shop will continue to operate out of the same location and will be open at the same time on Tuesdays (9:00-11:00), however the shop will be managed and staffed by The School Locker. Katherine Whittaker will continue to be the main contact in the store.

In addition to purchasing items directly from the on campus store The School Locker is developing a website for our school so that uniforms can be purchased online. These orders will be filled and delivered to students via their class teachers in the same way as the current paper form orders or may be picked up from the campus store. Paper forms will no longer be accepted – if you have any problems with on line ordering or are unable to come into the store please contact the school office or The School Locker.

The School Locker will offer all the current uniform lines. In addition they will offer a number of new items from early next year including a school bag, library bag, long sleeve polo, socks and tights. There will be some minor changes to current items including the addition of school logo or initials on boys pants and shorts, small changes to the girls summer tunic and some minor fabric changes on some items. All current items can continue to be worn.

The transition of our uniform shop to The School Locker provides a number of advantages to our school community –

The store remains on campus with the addition of an online ordering option

Families have access to company’s Student Advantage Membership program, providing Student Advantage pricing across the whole The School Locker range which includes Technology, Music, Sporting and Stationary products (see flyer for details)

The school receives a small commission on both uniform sales and sales made by families through the Student Advantage Membership program

Further information is provided in the flyers at the back of the newsletter and will be sent home in a separate note soon. We hope you can continue to support the school and The School Locker in ensuring our students are wearing the correct uniform.
