Staffing News Recently I received Mrs Shara Knobel’s resignation from the teaching staff of the College. Shara and her family are relocating to Wangaratta at the end of the term and after some thought, she has decided that this move might be a good opportunity for a change of direction with her career. Mrs Knobel has been with the College on and off for a number of years and has taught at both campuses. I take this opportunity to thank her for her work with her students during this time both in and out of the classroom. On behalf of the College I thank Shara for her contributions to Trinity and wish her all the very best with the move and change of direction.

I am pleased to announce the following staffing appointments:

Mr Matthew Densley – has been appointed to replace Mrs Knobel teaching in the Junior School at our Wodonga campus until the end of the year. Mr Densley commenced his teaching career recently and has taught in primary schools in Australia and the UK. Matthew will take up the role of Year 3‐4 teacher at Wodonga at the beginning of Term 3;

Mrs Lydia Billington – has been appointed to replace Mrs Megan Craig teaching the Prep class at our Wodonga campus until the end of the year. Mrs Billington comes highly recommended to us from the Victorian Department of Education and has been teaching for several years at Wahgunyah Primary School. Lydia came to the teaching profession after a successful career in accounting/finance and is looking forward to joining the Trinity staff. Lydia will commence her role at the beginning of Term 3;

Mrs Janelle Parker – has been appointed to the role of Food Tech and Visual Arts Assistant, covering Mrs Lee Kelb’s long service leave for Term 3. Janelle is well known to many in the College community and brings many skills, strong organisation and drive to the role;

Mrs Pieta Swan – has been appointed to the role of Teacher’s Aide to cover Mrs Leanne Nixon’s long service leave for Term 3. Pieta is a parent of the College and is looking forward to working as a member of the Tutorial Centre team next term;

Mrs Leonie Johnston – has been appointed in a part‐time capacity to cover Mme Marion Bennett’s long service leave in Term 4. Mrs Johnston will teach a number of Marion’s French classes as well as some classes being covered by existing colleagues;

Mrs Megan Locke – has started working as a casual Assistant in our Early Learning Centre, ‘Little Tackers’ from the beginning of this term. Megan is a parent of students at Wodonga and has worked in schools before this role;

Mr Tom Peric – has joined the maintenance and facilities staff as a part‐time cleaner at the College.

‘Trinity Sunday’ Service On Friday of this week, all staff and students will gather in the Multi Purpose Hall to celebrate the feast day of the Holy Trinity. Trinity Sunday, officially "The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity," is one of the few feasts of the Christian Year that celebrates a reality and doctrine rather than an event or person. On Trinity Sunday we remember and honour the eternal God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday is celebrated the Sunday after Pentecost, and lasts only one day, which is symbolic of the unity of the Trinity. The Trinity is one of the most fascinating, and controversial, Christian dogmas. The Trinity is a mystery. By mystery, this does not mean a riddle, but rather the Trinity is a reality above our human comprehension that we may begin to grasp, but ultimately must know through worship, symbol, and faith.

Essentially the Trinity is the belief that God is one in essence (Greek ousia), but distinct in person (Greek hypostasis). Don't let the word "person" fool you. The Greek word for person means "that which stands on its own," or "individual reality," and does not mean the persons of the Trinity are three human persons. Therefore, we believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are somehow distinct from one another (not divided though), yet completely united in will and essence. How can this be? Well, think of the sight of two eyes. The eyes are distinct, yet one and undivided in their sight. Another illustration to explain the Trinity is a musical chord. Think of a C‐chord; the C, E, and G notes are all distinct notes, but joined together as one chord the sound is richer and more dynamic than had the notes been played individually. The chords are all equally important in producing the rich sound, and the sound is lacking and thin if one of the notes is left out.

It is important that the College gathers to mark such a celebration. I would like to thank the parents and friends, as well as members of the College Board who were able to join the College community at this week’s service. Thanks must also go to those students who participated in the service as readers, musicians and via providing technical support! Once again I was very proud of the College at this service! Well done!


Official Opening of The Founders’ Centre On Friday 13 June the College conducted its official opening of its new Science facility, The Founders’ Centre. The building was officially opened by Ms Sussan Ley, Federal Member for Farrer and Assistant Minister for Education in the Federal government. The building was then blessed by the Bishop of Wangaratta, the Right Rev’d John Parkes.

The College Board took the decision to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of four people instrumental in establishing the College as its founders. These people included:

1. The Right Rev’d David Farrer, Bishop of Wangaratta at the time of the establishment of Trinity Anglican College and during its formative years;

2. Mr Keith Currie, the foundation Principal and driving force of the College during its pioneer years;

3. Prof David Mitchell, the foundation Chair of the College Board and still a great supporter of the College; and

4. Mrs Patricia Gould, a member of the steering party leading up to the establishment of the College and a foundation member of the College Board.

The College is very grateful for the vision, drive and commitment of these founders. It was terrific for the Trinity community to welcome three of the four back to the College at the official opening (Bishop Farrer was unable to attend as he now lives and works in the UK) and to thank them for their work in establishing the College.

After School Care – Changes As flagged in the last edition of the College newsletter, I am pleased to announce that the College plans to pass over the management of its After School Care and Vacation Care programmes at its Albury campus to a well‐established and highly regarded provider, Camp Australia. Due to many layers of government regulations, the compliance requirements of running programmes like these are enormous and the College was approached by Camp Australia and received a proposal that it take on the management and oversight of the programmes in recent months. After a number of lengthy meetings and a due diligence process, the College has decided that it will be best for involved to allow this organisation to take on the management of these services.

An Information Night for parents will be held at the College on the evening of Tuesday 24 June at 6:00pm in the College Library. I would encourage parents to come along to hear about the move to Camp Australia. At this meeting you will have the opportunity of hearing from the key staff at Camp Australia and will be able to ask any questions you might have about the After School and Vacation Care programmes which will continue to operate at the Albury campus of the College.

I do not anticipate that this move will impact on any family which uses the after school or vacation care programmes at the Albury campus. I look forward to seeing parents at the meeting on 24 June at 6:00pm.

When you are in a storm ‘The disciples were in trouble far away from land’, Matthew 14:24

Being caught in extreme weather is extreme! Storms don’t email you their schedule. They are brutal, relentless and can leave you a quivering wreck.

But there is a lifeline. When the waves of life smash you in the face, you can cling to the words of Jeremiah: ‘the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion says my soul, therefore I will hope in him’. (Lamentations 3:21‐24).

Here are five key truths that can give you the breath you need: 1. There’s no end to God’s love for you. 2. His mercies keep coming; you just need to see them. 3. Mercy comes fresh each morning. 4. He is more committed to you than anyone else is. 5. The Lord God will meet your needs. He is sovereign and he has a much greater

perspective. Allow current circumstances to build your trust in him. Take comfort from Jeremiah’s words in Lamentations. Write them out and put them near you when you sleep so that they’re close at hand when you feel most vulnerable.

From Bishop John Parkes I am saddened to advise you that on Friday 6 June 2014 Bishop John McIntyre from the Diocese of Gippsland lost his short fight with illness. He was a good man of high integrity and justice who shall be greatly missed. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Bishop John and pray for his wife Jan and their family as they struggle with their loss.

Feedback Feedback is an essential part of learning. The process of understanding and using feedback is a skill in itself. Many students see a mark, a grade or a place as the basis of feedback about their work. These are judgements that can give us a comparative statement, but really do not tell much of a story; they do not explain aspects that could be improved upon. The major focus of all assessments is to allow the learner to be given feedback that is formative. This allows each individual student to focus on their own learning and to recognise suggestions, understand ideas and seek clarity with future challenges. Reports and the report comments are written in this mode. Having read a number of reports for the end of Semester 1, it is great to be able to see improvements that have occurred with students and to be able to look holistically at the curriculum on offer. Students take part in a very broad curriculum. The report comments are seen as a formal communication with each stakeholder. This means that each student should be able to access the report to discuss the comments and outcome

statements. I encourage all parents to do this and also to listen to the stories that may spring from the process.

It is an exciting time at the College with a number of events occurring over the second half of the semester:

Life Education: The Life Education Van will be visiting the College to work with students over the next three weeks. A number of classes have been through the programme already.

Responsible Pet Education: This programme took place on Friday 6 June. The students took part in an interactive programme focussing on safety and security of pets, their owners and the wider public.

Cross Country success: CIS Cross Country takes place on Thursday 12 June. We wish all students every success at the tough Eastern Creek course.

BIPSA Athletics Carnival: This took place on Wednesday 11 June. Many students have been in training under the expert tutelage of outside coaches. We all look forward to hearing of their success.

Trinity Chapel Service: the special service on Friday will involve a number of students from K‐6.

PSSA: the extensive PSSA programme started last Friday with some success. The students approached the games in a positive manner. This is a large undertaking and the support of all staff and students is appreciated.

Parent Teacher Meetings Our teachers welcome the opportunity to meet with parents and guardians at parent teacher meetings. Should you wish to discuss your child’s progress at school or would appreciate an opportunity to pass on some important details, it is preferred that you contact the teacher through the College Diary. In this way a mutually convenient time and appropriate setting can be arranged for the meeting to take place. It may be that queries can be quickly dealt with through the Diary. If parents have items to drop off to their child, please leave the item with Karen in the Office for delivery to the classroom.

Start of the Cold and Flu Season I would appreciate parents reinforcing these tips with their children to help stop the spread of germs:

1. Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue. 2. Dispose of the tissue in a bin. 3. Wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol‐based liquids,

gels or wipes. 4. Should your child catch one of the winter bugs, it is okay for him/her to take time off

from school to allow his/her body and mind time to recover.

Public Speaking Competition Congratulations to Jana Geerling, Samuel Chase, Elouise Watkins and Penrose Delcour (Year 3/4) and to Charlotte Halligan, Isabelle Delcour and Regan Jeffs (Year 5/6) for winning the classroom rounds of the Public Speaking Competition. These students will now compete against their Albury campus peers for a place in the Lions Public Speaking Regional Final to be held at Thurgoona Golf Club at 6:00pm on Monday 28 July.

Wodonga Campus Ski Trip A reminder that the campus ski trip is taking place on Friday 15 August. All seats are now booked for what will be a very exciting day.

Walk to School Day This is an annual and national event that is encouraging all Junior School children and parents to walk and commute to school safely. It also promotes the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.

WHEN: Friday 20 June 2014 DEPART: 7:30am at Blazing Stump Hotel car park, Anzac Parade, Wodonga COORDINATOR: Mrs Shara Knobel Students, teachers and parents will walk along the Baranduda Link Trail. Students will wear their sports uniform, and don’t forget your gloves and scarves. Hope to see you there.

Anaphylaxis Reminder Trinity College currently has students enrolled that have been diagnosed as being at risk of anaphylaxis. Please ensure that you take care with foods that you send with your child to reduce the risk of an anaphylactic reaction. Nuts and eggs are well known allergens that can cause an anaphylactic reaction in some students.

Winter Sport Report ‐ Soccer The students in Years 4‐6 participated in the Winter Sport soccer matches at Kelly Park, Wodonga on Friday 30 May. The students arrived and prepared for their first game by completing a warm up led by Mitchell Arcus. We played our first game against Melrose. The


team played well, beating the opposition 2‐0. Regan Jeffs scored the first goal and Ashton Myles scored the second.

The next game was against Victory. It was a tough game and both teams were evenly matched. In the last few minutes of the first half Victory scored a goal, and at the end the Trinity team lost 2‐0. It was great to see all students having a go. We all look forward to competing again on 25 July and then at the culmination Winter Carnival on 1 August. By Regan Jeffs and Mitchell Arcus

Winter Sport Report ‐ Netball On Friday 30 May Years 4‐6 participated in the winter school sports programme. It was a fantastic day to play netball for the College. When we arrived at Kelly Park Wodonga, we all warmed up together and had some shots. Our first game was against Victory Lutheran College, second game we played against Wodonga South, and the last game we played Wodonga Primary. The Trinity team won all their games and everybody did their best in all three games. It was an awesome day and we are looking forward to next Friday. By Isabelle Delcour and Blaynee House

Prep Class Cooking – Week 6 Term 2 Last Wednesday the Prep class enjoyed an afternoon of baking scones in the College kitchen. It was the first time that many of the prep students had been in the kitchen, although some of the class are involved in the after school co‐curricular cooking programme.

We were lucky to have eight parent helpers to help us during the cooking session. The students worked in pairs with a parent helper. Students measured and mixed the ingredients with great gusto, then enthusiastically kneaded the dough and cut out their scones. It was wonderful to see all of the students join in with the cleaning up effort before we all sat down together with the parent helpers to enjoy our scones with jam and cream for afternoon tea. The Prep students showed beautiful manners when sitting at the table, taking turns when helping themselves to the jam and cream and waiting until everyone had been served before starting to eat.

I would like to again thank our wonderful parent helpers who helped to make this such an enjoyable event for the Prep class.

Netball Trinity Netball has gone from strength to strength over the last few years. A large number of girls ranging from Year 2 to Year 10 participate each Saturday morning and should be proud of their efforts throughout the season. Congratulations to all players who have been involved. A very big thank you to the many coaches who have given up their own time to manage our girls. Thanks for your commitment and support of the girls, who are improving each year. Thanks also to our parents and families who encourage the girls each week.

We have four teams who have made it through to the Grand Finals to be held on Saturday 14 June. Congratulations to Trinity Terminators, Trinity Typhoons, Trinity Firebirds and Trinity

Angels who will play this weekend. Well done to the coaches of these teams. A new season will commence at the beginning of Term 3.

NOTE: This coming Monday 16 June, photos will be taken for our College Netball teams. The photos will be taken during period 1 in the Multi Purpose Hall. Girls may wear their dresses to school, although the dresses will be collected after the photos are taken to make required alterations. Students must bring their College uniform to change into. If your daughter has already handed in their dress, we will have this available for them on the day.

Rugby There were smiles all round when the Year 5 and 6 Trinity boys got down and dirty in a hard fought battle against St Pats in their Rugby match at Murray Field. The thirteen boys were first put through their paces by Jack Burey, the Development Officer from ACT Brumbies in an hour long skills session that focused on passing, tackling and running. Once the boys were warmed up, it was time to take on their opposition.

Will Elgin got Trinity off to a great start with a 60m solo run that resulted in him scoring the first try of the match. This appeared to spring Trinity’s opponents into action and despite the best efforts of Alexander Jacobs, Levi Senini and Jaxon Solomon in defence, St Pats scored the next four tries of the match.

Trinity weren’t finished yet though and even with his slippery footwear, Reuben Sarkis was able to find enough traction to burn off some would‐be tacklers and score out on the wing to keep Trinity in the hunt. When Oscar Hope crashed over the line with five defenders hanging off him, things started to get very interesting. It wasn’t to be Trinity’s day however, with St Pats scoring the final try before the siren to win the game five tries to three. All the boys were a pleasure to coach and a great day was had by all.

Jarrod Hillary Scots Interschool Equestrian Event 2014 There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around…that the Scots Interschool Equestrian Event was on again! On Saturday 31 May, a team of six dedicated and enthusiastic girls from Trinity participated in the event and competed against other local schools to achieve an outstanding overall result of 4th place. Some highlights from the day were Chloe Voss achieving first place in her age division, Sidney White coming second in the first round of the 75cm jumping event, and Grace Arney achieving 5th place overall in her age division. Well done to Grace Arney, Ruby Kearney, Ella Corbett, Chloe Voss, Georgia Gogoll and Sidney White for their efforts on the day and for achieving such a fantastic result!

Volleyball The serve came in hard and Trinity dug the ball back to centre front, showing great control and skill. Calls could be heard from either side of centre front, wanting the ball to be sent their way. The setter back set the ball to the right where a Trinity player stepped in, leapt high – hovering in mid‐air for what seemed like many moments in time – arched back like a tightly wound spring and spiked the volleyball back into the opponents’ court for a winner. On Friday 6 June approx. 30 Trinity students played volleyball against other local schools at the Lauren Jackson Sports Stadium. It was a pleasure to watch the teamwork and skills of our four teams on the day. Our junior girls and boys were quite green as they did not have much opportunity to practise together before the day but fared well, winning some of their games. Our senior girls and boys played the games of their lives and won the day. Congratulations to all players. Our next Volleyball GALA day is Week 6, Term 3 where we are striving to further improve on these results. Well done to all participants.

On Thursday 5 June the Year 10 Agriculture Technology class went on an excursion to Wodonga TAFE for an Agricultural Horticulture careers day. Many aspects of the agricultural industry were showcased and we had the opportunity to participate in hands on activities and listen to professionals in their field.

The theme of the day was to inform students that you do not need to have a farm to be involved in agriculture. The day provided insight into the many career opportunities available to students. Year 11 has started raising money towards Relay for Life 2014. We ask that you bring in any good quality clothing that you no longer have a use for. We are planning to hold a second hand clothes stall early in Term 3. It will be an opportunity to reuse and recycle those clothes at the back of the wardrobe. The date and time is yet to be decided. You may drop off the clothes at the front office at any time. We thank you for your support.

Lake Hume Soccer Club is up and running for boys and girls of all abilities. The club runs skill development and fun games every Saturday 10:00am – 12 noon at Bethanga Recreation Reserve every during Victorian School Terms 2 and 3 (not the June long weekend). Kids learn skills and have a fun game each week at Bethanga – no need to travel to different places each week.

The club caters for girls and boys aged 4 to 15 – we divide the kids into two or three groups to practise skills and then play a game two. Parents are encouraged to get involved either on the field, on the sidelines or helping in the canteen, or you could just get yourself a coffee from the canteen and take in the spectacle that is Saturday morning junior football without the pressure of serious competition. It’s a great way to introduce kids to soccer/football and team sport in a friendly environment.

Lake Hume Soccer Club


LHSC is a small club and we do not field any teams in the Albury Wodonga Football Association competition, so all our games are home games! The club is affiliated with the Football Federation of Victoria, and all Lake Hume Soccer Club players are required to register. Costs are $50 per child for the season. Kids get two ‘come and try’ sessions before needing to register and you can join up at any stage during the year. So if you’d like a relaxing Saturday morning watching your kids have fun at Bethanga, come along!
