On Friday June 10th, 2016, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit celebrated the Fashion Show 2016, which was attended by media, VIP guests, residents of Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, and hotel’s guests. The place was covered in white; this was the dress code for the audience, and the lounge area was also of this color.

The cocktail reception began at 7:30 p.m. and at 9:20 p.m. the event formally began with a welcome speech. A 3-minute video was projected before each catwalk to introduce the corresponding designer and the DJ music was the perfect complement.

The first catwalk was from Daniel Espinosa, who unfortunately could not attend the event; the PR, Paola Arroyo was his representative of the "Jewels & Art" collection, showing the best of Mexican gold, silver and semiprecious stones. The next designer was Melín Castro, with her "Azul del Mar 2017" collection; and the last one, Benito Santos, with his "Cruise 2017" collection. Each designer showed their creations in approximately 7 minutes. The guests enjoyed canapés, cocktails and premium drinks with waiter service.

Among the attendants were Juan Vela, Vice President of Velas Resorts; Lucy Ruiz, General Manager of Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit; Ignacio Mendoza, General Manager of Grand Velas Los Cabos; and Luis Angarita, General Manager of Velas Vallarta and Casa Velas. Among the VIP guests of Benito Santos was the famous model and former Miss Mexico, Marisol González, currently a sports TV presenter, who also posed for the cameras in a special photoshoot held at the hotel, for the collection of this designer.

The show ended at 10:00 p.m.; VIP guests dined at the French restaurant, Piaf, filling almost the whole place. Designers and Daniel Espinosa’s PR enjoyed an all-inclusive stay for the entire weekend.

The collections of Melín Castro and Daniel Espinosa will be on sale at the hotel’s boutique for an unlimited period while Benito Santos’ collection will be tentatively until mid-July.

COCINA - RECETAS

For a light and airy dessert to bring to the next summer soirée, Mexico’s Velas Vallarta shares its Margarita Mousse recipe. Though not all your clients can make it to our southern neighbor this summer, enjoying the mousse is sure to transport them mentally to a vacation state.

DIRECTIONS

MousseCombine the evaporated milk (chilled) and condensed milk in a blender and blend at full speed until you get a foam consistency. In a separate bowl, hydrate the gelatin in ¾ C of cold water. Add the remaining citrus juices and liquers into the bowl and then add to blender. Put the mix in a mold and let it refrigerate for two hours.

Cookie crustMix all the ingredients at the same time and bake the dough at 320 F for 15 minutes.

MeringueWhisk the egg whites and sugar at high speed. When you can make peaks, add the zest and lemon juice, and stir for three more minutes.

Let the cookie crust cool completely before adding the margarita mousse mixture on top. Cover the mousse with the lime meringue and torch for a smokey flavor.

INGREDIENTS

For the mousse:

•¾ C lime juice•3 T orange juice•1 can condensed milk•1 can evaporated milk, chilled•1 ½ T gelatin powder•3 oz Don Julio white tequila•2 oz orange liqueur

For the classic meringue:

•½ C granulated sugar•½ C egg whites•2 oz lemon juice•1 T lemon zest

For the crust:

•2 ¼ C chocolate chip cookie crumbs•7 T butter•6 T wheat flour•½ C granulated sugar•1 egg
