been realized: Beverly has completed her certification requirements and is now a Trager practitioner, and works in natural therapies for animals, especially horses. But singing and performing have been defining elements in Beverly’s life. From college on she has been a member and soloist in numerous choirs, has sung madrigals, and given voice lessons. She has performed in a long list of musicals, including Fiddler on the Roof (the role of Chava), Cabaret (the Kit Kat girl), and The Wizard of Oz (the Wicked Witch!). She co-directed The Sound of Music, and was understudy to the female leads in Sky High and Fiorello. During these same years she was busy in theatre as well, doing everything from costume and scenery to acting. And today she shares all this skill and experience with the CCS.
THUS SAITH THE BOARD The Cairo Choral Society is managed by a volunteer Board of mainly Choir members who carry out the various tasks necessary to the Choir’s activities: providing the music and maintaining the library, managing the logistics for the choir’s performances and ensuring the Choir’s financial stability through gifts and sponsorships. The CCS has always been informally associated with the American University in Cairo (AUC) through its conductors, who have been AUC music professors. The University has also contributed financially to the Choir. This year, however, at the invitation of the Performing and Visual Arts Department (PVA) at AUC, and with the support of the University Provost, the Choir will become formally affiliated with AUC. AUC will realize educational benefits from the Choir, as students will have the opportunity to hear and perform great choral music. The Choir will also help AUC achieve its objective of community outreach, with its diverse membership and its free concerts for the city. What about the Choir? What will this new affiliation mean for us? We will finally have an organizational identity. Will we sing an additional concert at the new AUC campus at Qattamiyya? Will we perform for the trustees, or represent AUC at other events? These and other matters will become clearer in coming months. Negotiations are ongoing; the Provost has set up a committee of CCS officers and AUC administrators to work out the details of our association. For the time being, stay tuned!
