Hey everyone,
As you all probably know my name is Alyssa and I am Head Prefect. Now I
would like to take the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.
My full name is Alyssa Rae Goucher-King. I am 13 years old and I am in
Rutherford 5. I love to read, listen to music, cook, go for walks and spend time
with my family and friends. When I became Head Prefect I was so excited! I
was looking forward to all the different opportunities but I was also terrified
because of all the responsibilities this position would bring.
Now I am used to being Head Prefect, I can honestly say that I love it, being
able to build a relationship with a wider range of students and the staff as well.
Head Prefect to me is not being the boss and showing people what to do, but to
instead be a leader who offers my opinion but also steps back to listen and sup-
port other people and their ideas, while also getting involved with a hands on
approach.
When I finish high school, I want to continue onto university and either become
a forensic scientist, lawyer or even open my own business.
You may also know Tatiana Tango, the Deputy Head Prefect from Hine Kaha.
Tatiana is involved in a wide range of school activities, both inside and out. She
has a strong interest in music and performing arts, as well as spending time with
friends. She has offered a great contribution towards the prefect group by
supporting me as I am in charge of the prefects and helps to offer her
opinion at our meetings. She is not hesitant to volunteer to help others and is a
great example of our 3R’s; respect for self, respect for others and responsibility
for all of your actions. She has shown courage inside our school
environment as well as representing herself as a strong, confident,
independent girl outside of the school as well. She is very committed and is a
perfect example for all young woman.
Congratulations to Tatiana on continually working hard and I thankyou for
continually offering me your support while I lead our prefects.
-Alyssa

TAONGA PRESENTATIONS
BOP Hockey Representatives
Huge congratulations to CAPRYCE WILSON–HAIRA J7 and
TAINE HARVEY R5. The school is pleased and proud to present both of these
students with the R.I.S Taonga. These two students are history makers as they are the
first students ever to have earned these Taonga.
The Taonga was created especially for RIS by a local carver using genuine NZ
greenstone from the Westcoast of the South Island.
A school Taonga is what you receive
when you are up to your 3rd 3R’s badge.
Your first 3R’s badge is silver and you
need 30 certIficates in all 3 of the 3R’s
categories to get one.
The second 3R’s badge is gold and you
will have had to earn 60 3R’s
certficates. For those hard working few
who earn a R.I.S Taonga, they will have
earned 90 3R’s certificates 30 for each of
the 3R’s.
7 students from RIS have made BOP representative hockey teams for the 2014 season. They
have all been training hard since April with trials, school holiday trainings, weekdays for
fitness sessions and skill trainings and tournaments every weekend. They all head off to
Nationals in the school holidays. We wish them all the very best!!
