QSIP Newsletter 22 September 2014
Dear QSI Families, I would like to share with you some recent information.
Tea with Mr Page: for this school year, QSIP would like to introduce an opportunity for all parents to meet the director, on a regular basis. Our first “tea with Mr. Page” will be on Thursday, 25 September, from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in the
breezeway. This meeting will help you hear what’s new at QSIP and share your thoughts and concerns. (Learn more about Mr. Page from an interview he gave to The Phuket News – click here: http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-‐education-‐qsi-‐announces-‐new-‐director-‐of-‐school-‐48729.php
Open house: We will be holding our Open House on Thursday, 9 October 2014 at 4 p.m. Parking will be available at the school. Please meet your child(ren) in the breezeway at 3:45 p.m. and meet with Mr. Page and the staff in the breezeway at 4 p.m. Mr. Page will introduce the community to our new teachers and share our plans for another great school year. This year the open house will be somewhat different than in the past.
This year your child(ren) will be personally inviting you to this important event to share his/her work with you during that day! Please come to hear all about QSIP and see how proud the students are about their experiences here.
Afterschool activities: Our afterschool activities program will be ready to start on Tuesday, 23 September 2014, with many activities students can enjoy. You can check this term afterschool program on our website: http://phuket.qsischool.org/index.php/news/after-‐school-‐activities/783-‐after-‐school-‐activities-‐term-‐1-‐2014
Please don’t forget to pay for your child’s afterschool activity choices if needed
to. Responsibility: we will emphasize a different Success Orientation each month. September will focus on Responsibility. Every classroom teacher reinforces this
message in daily instruction, followed by school-‐wide recognition at the end of the month. (October will focus on Concern for others.) Please be sure to ask your child what s/he learned about responsibility at school and how s/he is showing it.
SAT Examinations: QSI is a fully accredited SAT examination center with adequate facilities and qualified SAT proctors. The next SAT examination is the 11th of October, 2014. Most QSIP students choose to take this university entrance test and many will be participating. For more information about SAT, log on our website: http://phuket.qsischool.org/index.php/why-‐choose-‐qsi/sat-‐examinations/530-‐sat-‐examination-‐center
QSIP newspaper on line: Our school newspaper has just launched https://qsitigers.wordpress.com/. Please check out our recent articles from our journalist team! Dengue Fever: The Deng Hemorrhagic Fever is caused by the Dengue virus and transmitted to human by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Infection occurs throughout the year, but it is more common during the rainy season. Dengue fever symptoms
include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea and vomiting. During dengue season, be careful when using antipyretics (fever reducing medication) for your child: some antipyretics can cause serious bleeding during the critical stage. Drink fruit juice or oral rehydration solution. During the rainy season, please get rid of mosquito breeding sites (household water containers, buckets, old tires, barbecue, toys, etc.), and use mosquito repellent suitable for your child. Most importantly, visit your doctor if your child displays the symptoms of Dengue Fever. Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing Coming Soon: For two weeks in late September/early October, QSIP will administer the fall round of MAP testing for all students age 7 through Secondary 2. These tests are designed to help the school gather some important student group performance data in the areas of mathematics and reading. The school will be using the performance data gathered from the tests to help us determine how well our school, as a whole, compared to other schools in the world. Parents also receive data about how their child is performing in basic mathematics and reading skills compared to other students in the world in the same age group. We ask that parents do their best to help their children be well prepared for MAP tests by ensuring they get enough sleep during the testing period and are fed balanced meals. Best wishes,
