Principals Update
School Investiture Ceremony This Monday will see our school leaders receive their badges and acknowledgement of the important role they play in Campus
life. Developing their personal leadership capabili es is an important life skill, I am looking forward to watching our school
leaders develop leadership skills and to contribute to the fabric of our school. Families of badge holders will be formally invited
to the ceremony and I look forward to seeing your pride in your student’s achievement.
Class Representatives As well as our School Leaders, School Council Representa ves and Sports captains our students also had the opportunity to elect
a class representa ve to represent their class at school council. Vo ng occurred in each class with the following results.
Year 3 – Kelsey Cowley and Billy Whi ng
Year 3/4 – Clancy Dull and Lincoln Wiseman
Year 4/5 ‐ Lily Eggleston and Dakoda Hancock
Year 5/6 ‐ Siarna Jones
My congratula ons to these students and I look forward to your input at council.
PBL Focus Our PBL focus for this week is Conflict Resolu on. It is cri cal that we teach students how to manage and deal with conflict that
will occasionally arise not only at a school se ng but in life outside of school. Having suitable strategies and coping mechanisms
is important for them and this week teachers will be teaching these important skills.
Curriculum By now you are likely to have heard me discuss Synthe c Phonics and our interven on/ support program. All teachers have been
integra ng Synthe c Phonics into their classroom teaching. This week our Head of Curriculum has been in contact with parents
to authorise permission to commence interven on and support for students who need extra work in this area. The interven on
will take place from 9 – 11am but will s ll allow students to par cipate in specialist lessons which are also cri cal for their
educa onal development. If you are unsure or need further informa on regarding Synthe c Phonics our Master Teacher Katy
Booth will be presen ng an informa on session in the school library on Wednesday, the 7th of March commencing at 4pm and
concluding at 4.45. This will be an excellent opportunity for all parents to find out What Synthe c Phonics is? What it looks like in
our school? and strategies for you as parents and carers to help with spelling and reading homework. In this and upcoming
newsle ers you will find an adver sement with appropriate details of the event.
Stage 2 of our interven on program will concern LOTE me and I will keep you informed of the progression with this.
Lunchtime Activities As I have stated previously I would like to see an organised and produc ve lunch me ac vi es program. Yesterday I commenced
by refereeing some touch football with our 4,5, and 6 students. We already have our Chaplaincy program on Mondays and
Tuesdays as well as library offering students a choice on how to produc vely spend their break mes. I am seeking support from
interested parents who have the me to referee for a 30 min period in either touch or soccer, I see this as a great opportunity for
local clubs to recruit possible players for their weekend teams as well as suppor ng our school program. If you are interested,
you will need a blue card, if you do not have one we can assist you in that process.
Have a great week everyone.

Principal
Last year, our school par cipated in the Woolworths Earn & Learn promo on.
Thanks to all the families who brought their reward vouchers in to the school, Woolworths has donated resources to our
school.
We have now received these resources. These are Phonics Modular Flip Charts, and Phonics cubes which are now being used
in classes. Thank you to everyone who helped, it is greatly appreciated.
Library News Library borrowing for all classes is held each Thursday. Please ensure your child brings their library books back regularly to
prevent the books becoming overdue.
Students from Prep to Year 3 require a waterproof library bag when they are borrowing, to protect the books from accidental
spills.
Coles Sports for Schools Vouchers Our school is registering for the Coles Sports for Schools Program. If you are shopping in Coles please collect the vouchers at
the checkout and return them to the school to help us purchase sports equipment for our school. This promo ons ends on
11th May 2018.
Mr Wong Year 3/4 In term 1 students have been learning how to write a persuasive text. They were given the opportunity to
persuade me not to give them homework. Many students made a valiant a empt at persuading me to stop
giving them homework but did not succeed. However, we did agree as a class to include a greater variety of
ac vi es into their weekly homework. This week students were given the op on of producing a poster that
reflected what they had learnt in science, which was the lifecycle of plants. I’m very proud of their work and I
hope you are all too.

P&C News The P&C have been running the hot chip stall at the Toogoolawah Rodeo for many years. It is a fantas c fundraiser, and last year it generated a profit of $2500. This year, the P&C have approved that all the proceeds from this stall go towards the Year 6 camp and Year 6 gradua on dinner. The camp and dinner are quite large out of pocket expenses for Year 6 families, and a subsidy from the P&C has been a tremendous help in the past.
Mr Hutchinson, Ms Jorin and the P&C have supported the idea that Year 6 take on the co‐ordina on of the Rodeo Chip stall event as a classroom project. This year the event falls on Saturday 14th April. The students of Year 6 will not be able to help opera ng the stall on the night (due to OH&S, opera ng deep fryers etc), so they will be asking for volunteers from the school community to help out at the stall for a few hours on the day – so stay tuned!
The P&C have also approved the purchase of 2 permanent soccer goal nets, to be installed on our oval. Regina Graham will be sourcing some quotes and working with Mr H on this. If anyone has any knowledge of where to source some, please get in contact with the school or Regina.
Lastly, just a reminder to put Monday 12th March in your diary for the P&C Annual General Mee ng at 7pm in the school staffroom. All posi ons will be open for nomina on: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Fundraising Co‐ordinator. We hope to see you there!
