EVERY DAY COUNTS  –  SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education

begin with students coming to school each and every day.

Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future –  a student missing one day a fortnight will

miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 they’ll have missed more than a year of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school –  each day a student misses puts them behind, and

can affect their educational outcomes.Coming to school every day is vital, but if for any reason your child must miss school, there are things

we can do together to ensure they don’t fall behind:

Speak with your classroom teacher and find out what work your child needs to do to keep up.

In the case of an extended absence, develop an absence learning plan with your teacher and

ensure your child completes the plan.

Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher as

early as possible.

From 1 March 2014, new laws will mean that parents can be fined for not sending students to school

without an acceptable reason.

If you’re having attendance issues with your child, please let your classroom teacher know so we canwork together to get your child to school every day.

As Always, if you would like to discuss this matter further; don’t hesitate to contact Paul King (Assistant

Principal) or myself for an appointment

From the office  –

 Sending Money to School

When returning money to school for an excursion etc. PLEASE make sure the money is in a sealed envelope

with your child’s name, grade and what the money is for printed clearly on the front. ALL money must be

handed directly to the classroom teacher. The school office does NOT hold money to give change – so please

endeavour to send the correct money or close to and we will send change home with the receipt – ALSO we

have been getting a lot of New Zealand coins sent to school. We cannot bank this money and often have to

exchange it out of our own purses. We hope our families will take extra care and follow the above request.

Under 11 Girls freestyle !Tuesday morning at Colchester pool as the swimming carnival begins…

Treading water, waiting … waiting … TOOT !!! I stumble a little, struggling to push off, then a

surge of energy forces me forward. For a split second I’m gliding through the water, now it’s time

to use my arms and legs. I take a deep breath then force my head under!

Once I reach the far wall I stop to catch my breath, with one hand on the wall I turn my body to

head back. I take a deep breath then I put my head under for three strokes, I can’t hold my breath

any longer. I pop my head up, my energy seems to be seeping away.Nearly… nearly… there. My fingers scrape the end of the pool and at last I can breathe properly. I

feel triumphant because I finished and I came 4th place, I’m tired but pleased with myself for

competing!!! Written by Obelia Wycisk
