Parent Representatives on the School Council
Thanks to Craig Jones and Davina Park for nominating to be on the School Council for 2015 and 2016. As the only two applicants for the positions, and as Executive on the School Council, I am happy to announce the positions filled. Congratulations Craig and Davina and welcome to the School Council.
Dad’s Club
According to John and his crew, the dads club gathering at Maroubra beach with sausage breakfast went really well. About 15 dads and 30 kids attended. Everyone ate and drank, followed by an hour of soccer: dads against the kids. There were hoards of them, and that combined with their endless fitness led to a score of 10 - 9, with the kids winning. Thanks to John for the organisation, we are looking forward to future events in 2015.
Student Placement into Classes for 2015
We are currently very busy planning for 2015. A critical activity for us is ensuring continuity of programs, particularly for children with additional learning needs. During week nine, a series of handover meetings are being planned between 2014 and 2015 class teachers. For children with higher level additional needs, the meetings will involve a chairperson, parents, class teachers and support staff as required. For other children with lower level needs, the meeting will take place between class teachers only and parents will be informed and given the option of being present. We will have letters out to parents later this week or early next week.
Finally, if you have requests regarding your child’s class placement in 2015, please click on the following link:

Year 5 Student Leadership Elections
Year 5 students have spent the last two weeks participating in a number of sessions that explored the meaning of leadership and qualities a good leader should possess in preparation for the upcoming Student Leader Elections for 2015. This week, interested students have nominated themselves as candidates and are now preparing their campaign poster that is due on Monday 24th November. Each poster will be displayed for a week so students in Year 2 to Year 5 can view the posters before hearing the election speeches and voting process.
On Wednesday 3rd December the candidates will present a sensible election speech in front of the Year 2 to Year 5 student body. Parents are welcome to come along on the day and watch the speeches. Please check the newsletter regularly for the time of this assembly.
Voting will take place on the same day as the speeches. There will be a boy ballot paper and a girl ballot paper with a photo next to each candidate’s name. The order of the ballot paper will be determined from drawing each candidate’s name out of a hat. The Year 2 to Year 5 student body will vote for 3 girls and 3 boys, by placing the numbers 1 to 3, 1 being their most preferred candidate. Votes are weighted to each grade with Year 5 students receiving 2 votes and all other students (Years 2, 3 and 4) and staff receiving one vote. The girl and boy with the highest vote is elected School Captain, 2nd highest vote – vice captains and so forth until another 2 girls and 2 boys are elected for prefects.
If there is a tie of highest votes for boys or girls, the second preference votes will be counted to determine the student leader/s.
Candidates will be informed of the results before the Recognition Day assembly. The candidates will be told of the 8 elected students, however, their elected position will be not be announced until the Recognition Day assembly. Elected leaders will be announced to the whole school and presented with their badges at the Recognition Day Assembly on Thursday 11th December.
All candidates have received a letter outlining the require-ments for the posters and speech. Please contact Miss Noble with any questions. Good luck to all our candidates!

Year 6 Poetry Work
My Hideaway Tip-toeing on sand stone Softened by bubbly white foam that normally scatters the golden shore line. POP… POP Sweat slowly slipping down my freckle covered face that is getting burnt by the minute. Salty smelling sea spray strokes my face like my dear parents would on a rainy day. Bare feet embracing the cool ocean that has sprawled itself across the rocks In pure happiness. I am free! By Jennaya A 6S
Resting,
Relaxing on the sea-side rocks with oyster shells massag-
ing my back,
Soft gentle waves lapping over my bare feet and my warm
toes,
Salty air refreshes my lungs,
In… out… in…out,
Cool wind creates goosebumps to prickle down my arms,
A warm tingling sensation inside me has blocked out any
room for anything else but emptiness,
I am not cold.
I watch a huge cruise ship as big as my pinkie, etches its
way across the horizon,
I watch,
The sun beating me under its intense rays,
Dry sand sticking to my slender calves and on my knobbly
knees,
I can taste the salt covered on my cracked lips,
I am so lost,
Free,
That is when I wasn’t able to see,
The gigantic wave that was about to eat me!

Fusion of note, the rattle, the roar Point of toe and swing of arm Secure and snug, lights glow Lustrous stars twinkle above. Refined wood polished to a sparkle Extension of legs, a towering skyscraper threatening to tear, a puppet held by its last good string. A genuine beam set to arouse Platinum crystals peak from luscious scarlet lips. Feet cross pretty, steady turns now Poised, structured twirls. Hands cupped, arms flimsy fairy wings stolen from enchanted stories and tables. Enthusiasm in each bound, each leap, buoyancy in step. Trickling of sweat and the thumping pound, Fireworks set to burst in to splatter of tinges and pigment. Elegant turns witnessed in mirrors and embraced in rippled eyes. By Jessica T 6N I MARK THE BALL TEN METRES OUT, A SMILE INSIDE AWAKENS, I RELEASE THE BALL, GLIDING IT TO MY FOOT I RESORT ALL MY ENERGY TO MY BLEEDING BRUSED LEG, I PLANT MY FOOT INTO THE UP-TURNED GRASS, I GIVE THE BALL NOTHING BUT BOOT, IT SOARS THROUGH THE AIR, IT FINDS IT SELF RACING THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE GOALS, RAISING MY FIST AND JUMPING UP IN THE AIR, I DASH AROUND THE FIELD HIGH-FIVING ALL OF MY LINE UP, THEY CONGRATULATE ME BY A PAT ON THE BACK, AND SAY “HOPE YOUR SKILL WILL NEVER LACK”, IT WAS AN ECSTATIC FEELING, EVEN THOUGH MY SKIN WAS PEELING, IT IS THE BEST FEELING YOU WILL EVER HAVE.
