Nursery
Monsoon Tunes Our little ones of nursery enjoyed
music and movement sessions where
they sang and danced to monsoon
tunes.
They also had hands on experience
where they made delicious Monaco
toppings with cheese. It was great to
see our children eagerly enjoying
games based on our concept “Big and
small.”
Medical Check-up This week the entire school had their
medical check-up where even our
nursery children went for their
regular health check-up.
Pre-Primary
Fruit Salad An active and interesting week in
preschool with more to follow…. What does a neighbourhood look
like? The little curious minds were
put to rest when they were taken
for a walk around the school vicinity
and queries were answered
automatically.
The class of T2 also enjoyed making
their very own delicious fruit salad
with the given rain fruits.
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” The importance of keeping your
home clean was understood through
a self-learning experience in class.
‘Elements of nature’ The preschool topic for the month of July is ‘Elements of nature’ and we kick
started the week with the element
“water.” It was great to see the
children of T1 mixing and pouring
water in different containers.
An experiment was conducted where
they observed what ingredients are
soluble and insoluble in water. They
also predicted objects that would
float and sink in H2O. As a part of
their work experience our T1
children helped in washing their toys.
A fun filled drama on the water cycle
concluded this week.

Our Earth
Weeks after school started, children
of Grade 1 were geared up for some
activity session. Colouring our Earth,
having vivid coloured fingerprints
around the Earth and turning those
fingerprints into children holding
hands got them excited and asking
the purpose of the activity. ‘Together’
we can make this world a better
place- Our objective, was then
understood and agreed well by them.
Estimation Guessing, calculating, and assuming
were some describing words they
learnt for the topic of Estimation.
Children engrossed themselves in
group activities that helped the
estimate and come to an actual
count.
Flashcards Having flash cards placed on their
tables, children had to write few
sentences describing the pictures.
Their illustrations supported their
written work well. All in all a fun filled week.
Swimming + Rains =
Awesome time
On Friday, (01/06/16) second
graders had an opportunity to
experience the downpour during
their swimming time. They were
super excited to swim.
Children tried learning some new
paddling moves. After their usual
practise sessions they had some free
fun time in the pool too! It was a
treat to watch them and their wide
smiles!
Power of description!
Our grade 2 children on 28/06/16
(Tuesday) tried their hand at using
their knowledge of adjectives for
describing characters. The aim was to
make them observe facial or bodily
characteristics of funny pictures
given to them and describe them
creatively.
They came up with amazing new
adjectives like ‘wiry hair’, ‘bulgy eyes’
or ‘patchy clothes’. They could also
relate their word list words with the
pictures. The session ended with
them happily colouring their work
and discussing about their choice of
words. They also understood how the
power of description can easily turn
them into SUPERHEROES, in the
world of creative writing!
Can we see Anger? This was the essential question
posed to our little Garodians. Grade
1 to 4 introspected over this question
and pondered over the emotion of
'ANGER'.

With an aim to identify this negative,
destructive, but imperative emotion
of 'Anger' a Volcano was symbolized.
With this symbolization, students
could easily explain and ponder over
this eruptive emotion. After this, to
touch upon the experiential learning
there was a game of Dumb Charades
played, wherein they had to enact
various angry situations. With this
activity the students brainstormed the
different ways of expressing anger.
Also we got back to the volcano,
where the students spoke
importance of communication to
express anger periodically, so that the
anger is not built up within leading to
a volcanic eruption of hurtful words,
disruptive behaviour and maladaptive
techniques of coping and negative
body language.
Students enjoyed this activity and
self-introspected within themselves
for identifying the cues of anger.
At the end of the session the
essential question was revisited. 'Can
we see anger?' and this time the
answer was YES!!
Internet Safety The Internet can be a wonderful
resource for kids. They can use it to
research, explore new topics and play
interactive games. But the access to
internet can also pose hazards. For
example, an 8-year-old might do an
online search for "Lego." But with
just one missed keystroke, the word
"Legs" is entered instead, and the
child may be directed to a slew of
websites with a focus on legs —
some of which may have
inappropriate pictures.
That's why it's important to be aware
of what your kids see and hear on the
Internet, who they meet, and what
they share about themselves online.
Students of Grade 3, 4 and 5 had a
session on “Internet safety rules”. They were acquainted with different safety rules. For example:
1. Use keywords while browsing. 2. Do not share passwords with anybody 3. Keep strong passwords. 4. Do not post or share personal information online. 5. If you see something inappropriate
online report to parents or teachers.
An activity was conducted where the
students wrote about different
safety rules which they will follow.
Students also took an internet safety pledge.
Let’s hope they follow the rules and surf safe and be smart online.
One Fold Craft One fold craft is a simple & very
attractive art work which done by
grade 3 children. It’s based on basic
shapes like circle, square & rectangle.
Each cut-out of that basic shape has
given one fold to get the proper
shape of the bird’s body, beck & tail
as well. They have used various types
of materials like scissor, glue stick &
sketch pen so skilfully. They were
very enthusiastic & creative. They
have done fantastic art work with
using one fold.

Checkpoint Results The much awaited checkpoint results
for the Primary grades were
announced early last week. The
school has recorded a good score this
year too with the average Math
score at 5.4, English with 4.9 and
Science with 5.5. The toppers at
Primary Checkpoint were:
Ms. Aisha Lowe at 1st position,
closely followed by Ms. Rhea Panda
at second position, and both, Ms Jiya
Lakdawala & Mast Arnav Shah, at the
third position. We had about 5
students with a 6-6-6 score in the
core subjects.
Congratulations to all the students
and teachers, and we look forward to
an encore of this performance.
Secondary
PUSH OR PULL? Students of grade 6 discovered how
and why objects move in an
interesting way. They explored and
manipulated the motion of objects
and the forces required to control
that motion (pushing, pulling,
throwing, dropping, rolling and so on.
In this activity the students used a
straw and a ball and through sucking
and blowing of air into the straw,
they understood the effects of force.
This fun-filled activity helped them
analyse that the position and motion
of objects can be changed by
pushing or pulling, and that the
extent of the change is related to the
strength of the push or pull.
Speeding Up! Students of grade 7 in their Physics
class determined their own rate of
walking speed. In this activity the
students were given the task of
covering 75m and using a stopwatch
to record the time taken to cover
the distance. They could apply the
formula to calculate their walking
speed.
ENERGY SEEKERS Crucial to science education is
hands-on involvement: showing, not
just telling; real experiments and
field trips and not just 'virtual
reality.' Martin Rees
This is the philosophy adopted by our
science department and on this note,
the students of Grade 8 had visited
the Physics laboratory to determine
the energy content in food by burning
different food items like (biscuits,
bread, potato chips and carrots) and
converting their chemical energy into
thermal energy in order to boil water.
Based on the rise in the temperature
of the water, they determined which
foods had the highest amount of
energy and which had the lowest.
Students were provided with eye and
hand protection as the experiment
involved burning. However, as it was
their first experience with a Bunsen
burner, a few of them were slightly
nervous at the beginning but
overcame it quickly. The experiment
successfully helped in reinforcing the
concept of energy in foods.
OUR YOUNG DELEGATES Eight students from Grade 9
participated at the Annual Vibgyor
High – Model United Nations (VH-
MUN) held from 23rd – 25th of June,
2016 held at Hyatt Regency. A Model
United Nations also known as Model
UN or MUN, is one of its kind, extra-
curricular activity in which students
typically role play delegates of
countries to the United Nations and
simulate UN committees by
discussing real world problems. Our
students did a fabulous job, while
some got over their apprehension of
public-speaking, the others found
new confidence in addressing large
crowds and experienced

professionals. One of the students,
Rohan Budhrani, also got a special
verbal mention for his speech.
The exposure was indeed exhilarating for our young delegates!
The MUN has definitely benefitted
our students, from increasing their
knowledge about world politics to
being updated on current affairs. MUN also helps in building critical
thinking and negotiation power, as
the students not only have to solve
the issues at hand and draft working
papers, but also think on their feet
and tackle any crisis thrown at them
and by the end of the 3-day
conference, should have worked
with the other delegates and
convinced them to pass the
resolutions submitted by them.
Investigating Graphs The students of grade 10 investigated
graphs of different types of functions.
They analysed and matched
equations to the graphs, while being
segregated into 5 groups. The
students discussed different aspects
of functions which can lead to the
corresponding graph.
During the discussion , as they
exchanged their answer sheets and
evaluated each other’s answers the
students reflected upon their errors
and learnt how to understand
graphs in a simpler way.
Plotting of points for graph was easy
for most of the students but few of
them were not aware of the
interpretation of the graphs also
didn’t know about shape of rational
function, cubic functions and simple
transformation of graphs. They
shared their views in their home
group and then with other groups for
summarization. Peer discussion
helped them to calculate maximum
and minimum point, zeros or roots
of the functions.
The continued emphasis through the
activity encouraged students to
participate, communicate, reflect
and give reasoning against their own
judgments.
Creating circuits... An activity was conducted in
Grade 10 as an extension in the
topic electricity.
The activity involved making of
circuits which could involve any of
the components like resistor,
lamps, buzzer an ammeter and
voltmeter. Students were first
divided into groups of 4 and were
asked to draw two circuits, one in
series and the other in parallel.
The concept of series and parallel of
resistors and battery was well
understood by the students as they
had hands on experience on the
theory learnt in their previous
classes. Students got an insight in
joining a circuit, take readings using
ammeter and voltmeter. This activity
helped students to view how the
resistance affects the current in
series and parallel. It was a hands - on
learning experience for the students
who enjoyed every minute.
PASCH CAMP 2016 -
Wayanad, Kerala... The Timing was perfect! From the 25th
of June to the 1st of July, I was
spending my days in 'God's Own
Country' Kerala. It was another PASCH
camp I was attending for having won
the German Olympiad 2016. To my
surprise, the majority of the students
there happened to be younger than
me. Initially, I thought that I wouldn't
be able to socialise or find anybody
with common interests.
Naturally, I was proved wrong.
The students there were mostly first
timers and it felt nice being able to
guide so many of them. There were
plenty of workshops and classes to
keep busy, and in our free time, we
would engage in some sports. I was
the leader in certain activities. Being
older, I also had the opportunity to
compère the cultural evening, a

chance that I've never received at any of my previous camps.
I have learnt a lot about responsibility
and learnt many practical lessons
about leadership. I hope to imbibe
those qualities in me and put them into
action here at school.
I ended up having a really good 5 days
with everybody there. The weather
was pleasant and it certainly proved to
be a nice break from the hustle of
school and city life.

IBDP
Use of simulation as a
way of learning.
The DP Biology students designed a
simulation lab for exploring the
concept of natural selection. In order
to simulate natural selection
between organisms obtaining food,
instruments like forceps, scissors,
tongs were used as mouth parts of
birds and a variety of small objects
like seeds, pins etc. were used as
food. A Petri dish was used instead of
stomach. The investigation involved
the students simulating the
organisms using their mouthparts to
fill their stomach with food in a set
time. This simulation lab helped the
students to think critically and
creatively.
Developing research skills IBDP 1 students of Psychology
learned the topic of the sampling
techniques used in conducting a
research. They explored the various
ways of Sampling like Random
sampling, Cluster sampling, Stratified
sampling, and Snowball sampling in a
very interesting way. They used the
name list of students of GICL and
their choice of second languages to
do the various methods of sampling.
Through this activity they acquired
the skills necessary to conduct inquiry
and research and show independence
in learning.
