The Buddies program at school isan important part of our Prepprogram and we are proud to be aBetter Buddy school. TheAlannah and Madelines BetterBuddy Framework was developedto support primary schools in thedelivery of a buddy system, basedon research showing that teamingyounger with older childrenproduces important benefits for theindividual students and the school

as a whole. Better Buddies is awhole school initiative designed toteach and reinforce positivebehaviours and values. This helpsto develop safe and caring schoolcommunities where friendships arefostered and bullying is reduced.

This year in Better Buddies, Prepchildren have been allocated agrade five or six buddy. WeeklyBuddy Sessions focus onreinforcing values such as caringfor others, responsibility, friendliness, respect and empathy.

When children have the values andskills to engage in positive,

respectful relationships with oneanother, bullying is reduced, learning is enhanced and studentsand teachers alike experience theirschool as a more productive andpleasurable place to be. TheBetter Buddies Framework aimsto:

    Reduce incidences of bullying.

Promote childrens sense ofbelonging and the school as a

    safe, happy and secureenvironment.

Provide a focus for thechildrens transition intoprimary school.

Develop a sense ofcommunity within andbeyond the school.

Help children developsocial skills and build selfconfidence.

Create a pro-socialatmosphere in theplayground where thestudents look out for and

    take care of each other.

Demonstrate to older studentsthat they are valued andcontributing members of theschool community.

Throughout the year we engagethe whole school in special eventsto further highlight existingprograms.

A reminder that our Buddy/ New

Families BBQ is on Friday 28th

    February.

Our students are exposed to arange of interesting and engagingart activities. They produce worksof a high standard and are excitedto share these with others.Look closely and you will see thateach line has been created usingthe students own names. Howimpressive they look. Great workAsh, Amy, Sam and Jim.
