Working with our students and parents is a genuine privilege and I was reminded of this when I attended the recent English / History excursion to Sydney. We have such spirited ambassadors for our school and our community; the group represented the best of who we are in terms of application and thought, the best of who we are in terms of manners and kindness, and the best of who we are in terms of curiosity and inquiry. In a similar vein, the Creative and Performing Arts play a significant role in the development of young people and I would like to thank Mrs Reed and her band of merry helpers for their contribution to this part of our school culture. The DAME (Drama, Art and Music Education) Awards evening was held on Tuesday 28th November and it was a resounding success. Thank you to our guest speaker, Mrs Lucie Peart, for sharing with us her journey in and around the creative and performing arts and the positive impact this has had on her life and career. It has been a very busy two weeks, and this Friday will be an out of uniform day, to raise money for Movember which supports mental and physical wellbeing of men. We are hoping to raise more than $1000, and we are well on the way to doing so. The support from the school and the wider community has been wonderful. When your children come home from school on Friday with a moustache, it is OK! Quote of the week

Learning is not a spectator sport

Principal’s Message...

Here is the link if you wish to donate. https://moteam.co/ghs-gilbillies?mc=1k This week has also seen a number of excursions and programs, including Peer Support, Ancient History, Aboriginal Education, ASPIRE, Cricket and the Hearing Bus. Fundraising for the orangutans...

Miss O’Sullivan and students at the fundraising stall

As part of Gilgandra High School's commitment to developing global citizens, Year 8 have been working on their Project Based Learning assessments and learning deeply about the plight of threatened species and their habitats. Shocked by their findings, the classes decided to raise money to 'adopt' a critically endangered Orangutan through hosting a bake sale. With much enthusiasm, they each decided on a dish to bake and came up with the idea of raising extra funds through a lolly jar guessing competition. On Monday the 21st the English/HSIE faculty became overrun by baked items, so much so that the bake sale had to run over two days! Mrs Collier and Miss O'Sullivan are immensely proud of the dedication Year 8 put into this fundraiser and are excited to announce that the students raised over $660 for the cause. Year 8 would like to thank the community for their support, including the generous donation from the outgoing Year 12 students. Our school is looking forward to making this an annual event on our fundraising calendar. With the money raised, our adoption sponsorship will help WWF campaigns

Principals Award recipients Abby Tate, Kate Gilmour and Clayton Fanning

In Term 4 both classes held the first Gilgandra High School Crepe Day, enjoying crepes piled high with Nutella, strawberries and other delectable goods. This Friday, they will be involved in an International Food Day and will each be contributing a dish from around the world. Miss Patton will be bring non-alcoholic tiramisu for them to taste.

This year Miss Patton's Year 7 French class have explored the culture and language of the European travel destination. They began by learning about the geography of France and the country's demographics. They have become familiar with introducing themselves, colours, numbers between 1 and 100 and different animals. They investigated different cultural practices and the appreciation that French people have for food. Did you know that the average French person eats 25kg of cheese a year or that some cheeses cost over $1000 for a kilogram?
