Scientists say that a series of minor splits, not a giant gash, sank the Titanic. In what was considered the worst maritime disaster of its time, the ‘unsinkable ship’ sank on its first voyage from England to New York. The most widely held theory was that the ship hit an iceberg which opened a huge gash in the side of the liner. However, an international team of divers and scientists recently used sound waves to probe the wreckage and discovered the damage was surprisingly small. Instead of the huge gash, they found six relatively narrow slits across the six watertight holds.

Small damage, invisible to most, can sink not only a great ship but a great reputation.

Integrity is defined as ‘adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty’. Last newsletter I spoke about the hallmark characteristics we seek to embed in the students at Cornerstone. Society is often happy to accept levels of integrity based on each person’s individual moral compass, but as Christians, we have a much stronger goalpost to shoot for. Around the CollegeThe exams continue......It’s now time to turn our attention to our Year 9-11 students who are either currently sitting or will be undertaking exams in the coming days. Please pray for calm and clarity for each student.

Kindy Open ClassroomOn November 25th, each year group in the College gets to taste what school will be like in 2016, and step into the classrooms of their next year group. As everyone moves up a year, it means that Kindy is potentially empty......but what a great opportunity to allow those starting Kindy in 2016 to come on site and see what wonderful and exciting delights await! This isn’t a formal Open Day as such, more of an opportunity for those who have already enrolled for 2016, as well as anyone who would like to experience what Kindy at Cornerstone is like, to get some hands-on experience. If you have enrolled, why not bring a friend along with you just to check it out, or let your neighbours and friends know that Cornerstone is looking forward

to welcoming anyone in this Open Classroom experience.Where: Kindy Classroom in the Early Learning Centre. When: Wednesday November 25th, 1:30 to 3:00pm.Spread the word!

Market DayIt’s not far away now! The Primary school’s Market Day is scheduled for next Friday (27th). The classrooms are awash with creative ideas and marketing approaches that would make many an advertising agency proud! This day sees the student’s putting into practice many aspects of their learning and use their skills to create products that can be sold in a whole of school fund-raiser. Several thousand dollars are usually raised, which is used to provide necessities for the poorest people on earth. Please note down Friday November 27th as an afternoon to come on campus, 1:00pm to 2:30pm.

Free Dress DayThe Primary School will be having a Free Dress Day on Friday the 4th of December (Week 8) to raise funds for the Christmas

Appeal. More information to follow.

Lost some Cash?At the end of last term, some cash was discovered on a Playground after school. We have been expecting someone to advise us of their loss, but to this point, the money has gone unclaimed. If you think this could be you, please come and see our lovely office ladies, and if you can identify where you believe the loss occurred and the value of the money involved, we may be able to return the cold hard cash to its rightful owner.Should the money not be claimed, we will donate it towards the Market Day fund-raiser which supports the Compassion Charity.

More Lost and FoundWhile on the topic of lost property, there is now a box of valuable items in the office which may contain your precious lost items. If you have had rings, jewellery, lockets or even your pedometre go missing, then we may be keeping it company in the administration. Drop by today to see if that special lost item may be in fact found!

Cleaver’s Clangers

I waited and stayed

up all night and tried

to figure out where

the sun was. Then it

dawned on me.

We have been listening!

Following the parent survey regarding the iPad rollout in 2015, and with additional research by the IT committee being undertaken in partnership with this process, we can advise parents of students in Year 5-9 in 2016 that some changes will be put into effect.

A review of the program has been made, and a letter will be sent home shortly which will outline our responses to parental concerns and feedback.

We are confident that the changes will improve the efficiency and success of the 1:1 device rollout, and thank parents for their valuable input into this process.

IT Update Exciting Secondary Stuff!

“A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.” Anon

John 14:27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The Early Learning Centre in 2016Next year, enrolments for Cornerstone will see us with two straight classes in our Early Learning Centre, one Kindergarten and one Pre-Primary. As this will release one of the classrooms, we can advise that we will now rehouse the Pebbles program back onto our campus. This will mean that the transition from Pebbles into school in 2017 will be more streamlined for students, as well as providing an environment that is custom-designed for the Early Learning needs of our students. Leadership are currently working out the fine details, but increased Aid Time will be a result in both the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary classes.Further information will be provided closer to the time once details have been confirmed.

ReportsWell, it’s nearly time to have those final reports for the year in your hands! All reports are posted to parents and are expected to be dispatched from the College in the last week of school.

Thank you! With planning well underway for our End of Year Concerts and Awards, it’s appropriate to thank the generous contributions of our sponsors! In no particular order (as they are all remarkable) we need to honour the following organisations:Specsavers, Ventura Home Group, Athlete’s Foot Carousel Cannington, City of Busselton, Sportspower, Nola Marino MP, Libby Mettam MLA, Adele Farina MLC, South West Machining Centre, Scope Business Imaging, Barefoot Books, Cornerstone Church of Christ, Busselton Lions Club, Busselton Rotary Club, Zonta, LMW Hegney, Woodside, Caltex, Australian Defence Force, and Edith Cowan University. Collectively, this remarkable group of sponsors send $10,000 of book awards and cash prizes our way. Please support them, because they support us!

Exciting Secondary Stuff!Next year sees two exciting new initiatives being introduced into the Secondary school. Firstly, the high school is going to have a house based system introduced into our form and Bible classes. As forms will be mixed in age, the sense of community, capacity for pastoral care and incentives to strive for excellence will be rich in possibilities.

Effectively, this will create some ‘sub schools’ where houses will develop a sense of team, leadership, culture and identity. Staff are incredibly excited about the potential of this format, which will further develop the camaraderie we see during the athletics carnivals, as we will also introduce academic competitions as well. More details to come - but we can’t wait to get started!

Secondly, parents of students who are currently in Year 8 and Year 9 will shortly receive notification of the two streams we will establish in our Year 9/10 classes next year. We will still offer a Mainstream Australian Curriculum program but will also offer a vocational focus stream for students who are wishing to pursue apprenticeships, traineeships or employment. We will provide parents with details of our recommendations for which pathway suits your child, with dialogue with parents providing some flexibility for placement if any concerns are expressed. It’s our way of aiding the progression of the academic students, whilst also enhancing the opportunities of our VET orientated students. Once again, an exciting change that staff are expecting to deliver great outcomes for everyone!

Around the CollegeRed Cross CadetsCornerstone’s very own Great Race was unfolding around Busselton on Friday. Student’s hit the road on the College bikes, and made their way around the town, finding clues in QR codes that led them to the next location. It was a gorgeous day to be out in the sunshine. Wonderful!

Package Free Thank you!Mrs Heyes wishes to thank all of the parents and children who made a big effort to have package free lunch boxes. Many students used reusable containers or paper packaging. Well done Cornerstone for being part of the solution not part of the pollution.

Uniforms for 2016We wish to advise that there are some relatively minor changes to the uniform for 2016, which at this point, only refers to no ties for Primary boys in Term 2 and 3. We are working hard to ensure that parents are not adversely affected by additional costs, and therefore are streamlining parts of the uniform which will be rolled out over time. Can parents please action immediately the purchase of any items that you require for next year (particularly for next year’s Year 1, Year 4 and Year 7 students who usually have changes to consider). Orders need to be placed now to ensure supply is met. We look forward to your prompt assistance.

with Cindy HeyesWhat on earth is galactose?Did you know there are over 50 names to describe types of sugar, including honey, molasses, rice syrup, coconut sugar, sucrose glucose and galactose. So you may, without being aware of it, be consuming more than one type of sugar. To determine how much sugar you are actually consuming refer to the nutritional label. New diet recommendations indicate that men and women should have a limit of about 28 grams of sugar per day, with children limiting their intake to 12 grams.
