For New Students

accepted to

UBC/UVIC/UFV/UofA UBC

Maintaining an offer of admission All UBC offers of admission are conditional. The conditions required to maintain an offer of admission are outlined in each student’s letter of admission. Additional guidance regarding grade changes is available online. Deadline to accept an offer of admission For most students, the deadline to accept an offer of admission is either May 1 or June 1. Students should refer to the date specified in their letter of admission. Offers can be accepted on the Student Service Centre. Deadline to apply for housing The deadline to apply for housing at UBC is May 1. If students have expressed an interest in studying on both campuses, they’ll need to submit a separate residence application for each campus. That said, only one housing application fee is required. More information is available on the How To Apply pages for our Okanagan and Vancouver campuses. Supporting students through their next steps Students who have been admitted to the Okanagan campus can connect with Student Services for assistance with next steps regarding course registration, course planning, and finances. Students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus and accepted their offer will be assigned an Enrolment Services Professional (ESP) for the duration of their degree. ESPs can help students navigate UBC – from making a budget and applying for loans, to connecting with academic services and accessing health resources. Students can expect an email from their ESP starting May 8.

Approximately two weeks before course registration opens, students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus will receive an email from UBC with information about their assigned registration date and time. For assistance with course planning, students can connect with an academic advisor in their faculty. Destination UBC Admitted students will receive invitations to join spring events taking place on UBC’s campuses. Events on UBC's Okanagan campus: Destination UBC (May 11 to 13) is a

program for high school students who have been admitted to the Okanagan campus. Participants will get to connect with the UBC community and start preparing for life as a UBC student. Students travelling from outside the Okanagan Valley are invited to stay for the entire weekend and are eligible for a travel reimbursement. Students who are local to the Okanagan are invited to participate in a single-day event.

Admitted high school students who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit are also invited to the Indigenous Welcome (May 10).

Events on UBC's Vancouver campus: High school students who have been

admitted to the Vancouver campus and who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit are invited to the Destination UBC Aboriginal Student Welcome (April 27 to 29) and may be eligible for a travel reimbursement.

UBC Welcomes You (April 28) is a half-day informational event designed for all students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus. Students will get to connect with the UBC community and start preparing for life as a UBC student. Travel reimbursements are not available for this program.

On the Vancouver campus, the UBC Summer Science Program offers Aboriginal youth entering Grades 9 through 12 the chance to participate in a one-week cultural, health, and science program for $200. Travel is not included, but bursaries are available to help offset costs. The deadline to apply is May 1. UVIC

Self-reporting closed March 31 To be considered for an early offer of admission, it was mandatory for all applicants to self-report their grades by March 31. Applicants who do not receive an offer during self-reporting can be considered again during late April/May provided that there are still spaces available in the program. Options for submitting updated grades are sent to students after they self-report. On-line/distance courses should only be self-reported if at least 50% of the lessons and tests are complete. The final grade must be sent to our office in sufficient time for processing, so should be finished no later than May 31. Scholarships Current secondary school students should now have self-reported their Grade 12 marks (deadline was March 31) to be considered for a GPA-based entrance scholarship. UVic will assess students for an entrance scholarship based on the grades they self-reported.

The online entrance scholarship application for specific criteria scholarships is open until May 1. For more information, visit their website.
