    Diabetes Eduction Series Offered

    Patients with diabetes face amajor struggle to stay healthy.Diabetes and its symptomsimpact over 26 million people inthe United States alone, many ofthose people go undiagnosed,there are another 79 millionAmericans who are pre diabeticand are at risk for developingtype 2 diabetes.

    During Diabetes AwarenessMonth a reminder that theproviders from Central UtahClinic Endocrinology offer an

    educational series for patientssuffering from the effects of diabetes. The series isdesigned to help diabetic patients especially those withacute and chronic diabetes.

    Remaining classes this year will be held November 19-21from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and December 10-12 from 3:00p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Provo Internal Medicine breakroom, suite 212.

    Patients will learn (specific to their needs): diabetesdisease process; nutritional management; physicalactivity; medications; monitoring; preventing, detecting

    and treating acute and chronic complications; goalsetting and problem solving; psychological adjustments;and preconception care, management during pregnancyand gestational management.

    The series is covered by most insurances. In addition toeducation, patients will set goals with their provider anddo a base line test of an A1C to score the effectiveness ofthe class for each patient.

    He said most Diabetic patients he sees run into twopitfalls: they dont follow their diet, and they lackmotivation.

    When I see a patient, the first thing I do is get themmotivated! Thats when we see improvements, says DrNizam .

    He helps patients establish a plan tailored specifically ftheir success. The plan is printed for the patient to follo

    and then Dr. Nizam refers them to the Diabetes Educatioclasses to help increase their chances of success.
