Everybody comes in the world with a spark. To ignite that spark into a firework and discover the latent talent, the new
entrants of VDJS, continuing with the tradition, on the dusk of May 2, 2016 showcased their prowess. The grand event began
with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the Principal, Ms Shalini Mehrotra, the Administrator and the Vice Principal.
The event was packed with exemplary talent from every fresher, may it be a student or a staff teacher in performances like the
Action song, the rib-tickling Skit, depiction of India's diverse culture by Garba and Bhangra, the graceful classical dance, the
melodious Western group and Solo songs and nevertheless our cute little girls hopping on the beats of –'I'm a Gummy Bear'.
The new members of staff engrossed the audience with a poem recitation, an elegant dance and a surprise song by the
Administrator. The auditorium echoed with applause and exhilaration.
It was a delight to watch the captivating performance and the evening gave an ideal platform to the new entrants to emerge
and mingle with the ethos and trend of VDJS.
Indeed, VDJS is proud to have such budding talents as a part of its family. The show concluded with the Principal's address in

The much awaited trip for class XII started with a train journey on April 4, 2016 from Delhi to Mumbai. The sight of the
Mumbai Central zeroed our tiredness and rejuvenated us enough to commence with sightseeing and visit the renowned places
like the Gateway of India, the Marine Drive,Mani Bhavan - the Gandhi Museum, the Hanging Garden, Nehru Planetarium
and the Fish Aquarium. The next two days were spent enjoying rides and slides in Aqua Imagica and Imagica respectively,
which offered us the most magical of experiences.
At the dusk of the third day we left for Goa. We checked- in in one of the most exotic beach resorts at South Goa. We spent an
amazing time at several beaches and the market that glorified the town was amazingly vibrant. Our most exciting moment
was at the Calangute Beach in North Goa which was followed by a visit to the Aguada Fort and St. Basilica Church and an
hour of a river cruise at Panjim. The train journey marked the end of our mind boggling trip only to commence the beginning
of new adventures later. We came back to VDJS on the evening of 12th April, 2016 with indelible memories.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian calendar) to replace the
old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year's Day to be celebrated January
1. Many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and
continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1. Other people began to make fun of these
traditionalists, sending them on "fool's errands" or trying to trick them into believing
something false. Eventually, the practice spread throughout Europe and today we know it
as April fool's Day.

Round Square Conference at Vivek High School, Chandigarh
I along with four students (Ayushi, Khushi, Seerat Dhesi and Tannushree) from our school attended the Round Square
Conference at Vivek High School, Chandigarh from April 13-17, 2016. Nineteen reputed schools from all over the country
participated in it.The theme of the conference was 'Mindfulness' - The way to Peace.
The first key note speaker was Mr. Lama Yeshe, a Buddhist monk. He highlighted the transformational nature of mindfulness
and the positive impact it can have on our lives and the lives of those around us. The second keynote speaker was Padmashree
Ajeet Bajaj, the first Indian to have completed the Polar Trilogy which entails skiing to the North Pole, to the South Pole and
across Greenland. In his address he said, “There will be many challenges, but if you step fast with determination and face
challenges head on with a smile there will be no challenge or storm too big.” The delegates were divided into four Barazza
groups named after the indigenous trees of Chandigarh - Amaltas, Gulmohar, Kadam and Simbal where they got a chance to
express their views and exchange their ideas and thoughts with each other.
The conference ended with the Lama summing up the conference and reading out the conference statement prepared on the
basis of the discussion of Barazza sessions- 'In a world full of conflict, moral confusion, fear and anxiety, mindfulness is a
way of living in the present moment which connects us with our inner selves and with nature to achieve peace and
harmony with ourselves and others. Periods of reflection keep us in constant touch with all our senses and emotions
helping us to make reasoned, responsible and empathetic choices in life.’
The Conference broadened the horizons of my understanding, taught me how to be mindful and look at things with a different
perspective.
Workshop on Life Lessons & Art Therapy
By Paridhi Class XI D
The students of classes IX and XI attended a three day workshop with Mr. Deepak Ramola the youngest life lesson
counselor, actor and lyricist accompanied by Ms Poornima Sukumar an artist and a social worker. It was elevating to meet
such inspiring personalities.
The three attributes: self motivation, general understanding and empathy were the key essence of the first day session. He
also highlighted that using a surname marks the importance of your ancestors' sacrifices and assures us of their support. The
girls were enthralled by the diverse collection of life lessons from across the globe narrated by him.
The second day unfolded the sordid condition and humiliation faced by the Transgender and it pooled each individual's eye
present in the Auditorium. However, the air of sadness was soothed by the majestic therapy of art where the wings of
imagination took a flight and gave a pictorial form to the following quotes:
“Feet, why do I need you when I have wings to fly?”
“Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It's your masterpiece after all.”
“Each star is a mirror reflecting the truth inside you.”
The next morning, the artistic minds of students were put to work. The walls were painted with the strokes of imagination
and creativity. The whole new yet fascinating happening marked the end of our workshop leaving us with lessons learnt,
memories to cherish and new experiences.
