BulleTiN from WFSi engineering

A bulletin by WFSI Engineering regarding changes in liner material and adhesive use has been distributed via email and is available for viewing and printing at: http://www.wilbert.com/Licensee/operations/advisories/.

Please take time to review this bulletin as it addresses the conversion from ABS to SHIPS material and includes information on the discontinuation of the E58R product and the use of Unidex®Plus.

Quality Control

In an effort to maintain quality control in our cremation products we are asking Licensees to pre-inspect any of the following urns in their inventory before they are shipped to customers. If there are any quality issues please notify WFSI by contacting Mike Signor at [email protected].

• P3002 Argus® Memory Chest • P3002-1 Argus Insert • P363 Victorian™ Urn • P2019 Adria White Urn • P3006 Opus™ Rosewood Urn • P3007 Opus Burlwood Urn

Please Note urn Color

Due to color variations represented when printing color swatches to the catalog, there is an adjustment needed for the MKZ011650 Neptune (and the MKZ011680 Neptune Companion).

Please make note of the color variation for this urn compared to the swatch shown in the Cremation Choices™ catalog. The actual color is a more green hue than shown. The photo shows a closer representation.

Swing into Summer Promotion

WFSI is kicking off the summer season with a special promotion—“Swing into Summer!”

In recognition of Funeral Directors who deliver a Wilbert Venetian® Burial Vault in the month of July – or Preneed Counselors who complete a funded contract for one – each will receive an attractive limited edition golf shirt from the Licensee.

These silver shirts are one-of-a-kind and feature the classic Wilbert logo on the front. To make the shirt extra-special you have the option of adding your own company logo to the sleeve! Licensee’s cost for each standard shirt (Wilbert logo only on front of shirt): $21. If you want to customize with your name/logo on the sleeve: $25.75/each. There is a one-time set-up fee of $50 for the customized option.

To qualify, vaults must be delivered and interred between July 1st and July 31st, or written on a funded Preneed contract between those

dates. Only one award per licensed Funeral Director or Preneed Sales Counselor will be given. Funeral Directors need to make sure their name is on the vault order. Preneed Counselors need to provide a copy of the Goods and Services Statement for documentation.

Please see the attached fillable PDF flyer and PDF order form or visit www.wilbert.com/Licensee/marketing/promotions for the forms.

Directory Changes

Kindly report any changes in your Licensee information to Barb Malone at [email protected] or call Barb at 708-781-7062 at your first opportunity when changes occur. Thank you.

While Wilbert Funeral Services’ Facebook page continues to grow, we need your help to let everyone know about the good work you’re doing with the Commemorating First Responders Program.

Your participation on this page will make it successful for all of us, and show the professionalism and care that is our collective Wilbert brand.

The page is focused on the Commemorating First Responders program. Our goal is to make this a page that honors fallen first responders while respectfully illustrating the professional graveside set-ups and services that you provide.

This is a tremendous opportunity for you to show the public – and remind your customers – of what you do and how that truly helps bring dignity and commemoration to the committal service. When someone does a search for the name of a first responder who has died, our Facebook page will appear in the results. This leads to people who have no previous knowledge of our program, or even Wilbert, finding out about your good efforts.

Here is an example of our most recent Facebook posting from Crews, Farrell & Mead Wilbert, Wayne, NJ:

“Crews, Farrell & Mead Wilbert, Wayne, NJ provided the SST Triune with Custom Legacy and graveside service for Firefighter Robert “Hawk” Meyer of the Union Beach, NJ Fire Department.

Firefighter Meyer suffered a fatal heart attack while battling a four-alarm fire on June 8, 2014.”

Crews, Farrell & Mead Wilbert provided us with the photos of the carapace and the service. So far, more than 250 people have viewed this posting.

Here’s what you can do:

1. Have your CSRs take photos of the completed graveside setup, personalized carapace, distinctive look of the tent and chairs. Also, respectful photos of the service would be good, being mindful of the family’s privacy – these can be from a distance showing the tent and the crowd. You might also photograph honor guards, memorials, etc.

2. Post your photos along with tributes or comments regarding the first responder whose service you handled. Or, you can email your photos to: [email protected] and we will post them to Facebook for you.

Here’s our Facebook page address: www.facebook.com/WilbertFuneralServices

Safety News

Personal Protective equipmentBy Edgar Murphy, Overland Park, KS

Personal protective equipment, or PPE, is designed to protect workers from serious workplace injuries or illnesses resulting from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Besides face shields, safety glasses, hard hats and safety shoes, protective equipment includes a variety of devices and garments such as goggles, coveralls, gloves, vests, earplugs, and respirators.

Employer ResponsibilitiesOSHA’s general personal protective equipment requirements mandate that employers conduct a hazard assessment of their workplaces to determine what hazards are present that require the use of protective equipment, provide workers with appropriate protective equipment, and require them to use and maintain it in sanitary and reliable condition. Using personal protective equipment is often essential, but it is generally the last line of defense after engineering controls, work practices, and administrative controls. Engineering controls involve physically changing a machine or work environment. Administrative controls involve changing how or when workers do their jobs, such as scheduling work and rotating workers to reduce exposures. Work practices involve training workers how to perform tasks in ways that reduce their exposure to workplace hazards. Your employer has selected PPE based upon these assessments. Having received initial training on PPE assigned to you, every employee should know how to do the following:

• Use protective equipment properly, • Be aware of when personal protective equipment is necessary,

• Know what kind of protective equipment is necessary, • Understand the limitations of personal protective equipment in protecting workers from injury,

• Put on, adjust, wear, and take off personal protective equipment, and

• Maintain protective equipment properly.

Protection from Head InjuriesHard hats are not required except in certain locations; however, voluntary use should not be discouraged. Also, all employees are encouraged to cover and protect long hair to prevent it from getting caught in machine parts such as belts and chains.

Protection from Foot and Leg InjuriesSteel toed safety shoes or boots should be worn by manufacturing and delivery employees. Employees who work in ice and snow should consider using strap-on ice cleats when conditions merit.

Protection from Eye and Face InjuriesSafety glasses should be worn by all manufacturing employees. Safety glasses may be supplemented with a face shield where additional protection is desired. And, of course, specific tasks such as welding must be performed only while wearing PPE appropriate to the risk.

Protection from Hearing LossNoise levels can only be determined by professional testing, which likely has been done at your plant. The widespread use of hearing protection is not common in our industry; however, every employee should be encouraged to inform their supervisor if they believe conditions have changed and retesting may be warranted.

Protection from Hand InjuriesGloves are manufactured for specific protection against cuts, scrapes, or chemicals. Do not substitute one type of glove for another without consulting your supervisor.

When to Wear Respiratory ProtectionEmployees who are required to wear a respirator must be in a formal program that complies with all OSHA requirements. Consult your supervisor about requirements in your plant.

Take time to be safe .

updates

Catalog No. C007 – Cont/Mont Clevis (600) has been replaced with Catalog No. C007A which now contains only 108 pieces per carton and will cover one skid of liners.

Please note that the Form “N” Liner Load Form has been updated; please take a moment and download a copy from http://www.wilbert.com/licensee/inside-sales/order-forms/

Revised: Helpful Tips

Regarding Liner Load and Returning of Material

Please make sure the employee who handles your liner load ordering and receiving gets a copy of these helpful tips.

Xpress Solutions 53 Foot Trailers will accommodate a total of 17 skid spots – one spot for your two U700A Blue Metal Cover Racks/one spot for five 5pks of metal/one spot for one to four drums; that will leave you with 13 spots on the truck to fill.

When your truck arrives, please note that the load bars, straps and plywood to divide material on the truck, are WFSI property and MUST be returned to WFSI when you return your packaging materials. In the future when Licensees DO NOT return the above loading material, they will be billed for this material.

Returning Liner Load Packaging Material

Fill out a Licensee Liner Load Return Goods Report, 2 part form; please retain the pink copy for your records and TAPE the white copy to your returns. If you don’t have a form, Inside Sales can fax a copy over to you. Once filled out, please fax a copy to Inside Sales at 708-865-1640 and we will forward it to the appropriate warehouse.

Contact Melanie at Xpress Solutions, either via phone (815-806-3050), fax (815-806-3300) or email ([email protected]). Melanie will determine which method is required for your returns (LTL, Partial Truckload or Full Round Trip Load with the next delivery) based on the amount of items being returned and how much trailer floor space will be required. If the required floor space of the Return Items is less than 12 feet, efforts will be made to use a Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) carrier. Because of the width of several of our return items, finding a LTL carrier with swing doors is sometimes difficult. In such cases, even when a small amount (less than 12 feet of Returns) is being shipped, Melanie may need to search for a Partial Truckload carrier.

When a Return Load exceeds the LTL space requirements but does not justify a Full Truckload, Melanie begins the search for a load to share. At times this might be with another Licensee on the route or this might be with an altogether different customer. The ability to find someone to share a partial load is based on the location of the Licensee as well as the equipment a carrier may require to move product. The process to combine a Licensee’s Returns with another shipment could take a couple of weeks.

If a shared load is not a reasonable option when timing is an issue or because of the location of the Licensee, Melanie will search for Full Truckload rates and determine if a Liner Load Roundtrip would be a more economical option then shipping a One-Way Return Load.

Rates charged to the Licensee for these partial or full truckloads, either one-way or part of the roundtrip from a Liner Load, are not fixed; they are based on current market conditions as well as the location of the Licensee, some of whom are out of the way.

When the Return Load is a small amount and can qualify for an LTL shipment (less than 12 feet of floor space), a standard LTL rate is applied based on floor space being used as well as distance of the shipment.

In all cases—Full Truckloads, Partial Truckloads or LTL Shipments—previous shipments are reviewed and shipping costs are kept consistent with the historical data.

Preparing Your Return Goods For Shipment

U600 Wilbert Bronze Crates – Please do not stack anything on top or inside of this crate. You must return base and cover crate to receive credit.

U500 Empty 5-pk Crates – Can be stacked 5 high but DO NOT put any other returns inside of them. Also, please make sure you are returning EMPTY 5-pks; in the past we have received 5-pks which still have metal sets inside of them. NOTE: Belmont Warehouse 5-pk crates used for Stainless metal are NON-RETURNABLE for credit – you must dispose of these. These crates are clearly stenciled on their sides “N/R”.

H7000 Plastic Skids or B1001 Wooden Skids – Can be stacked 15 high in the truck. Also, the plastic skids will fit nicely in the Blue Metal Cover Racks which will reduce the space being used on your truck and save you freight cost on your returns. Usually six to seven skids per rack will fit and racks can be stacked BUT you must secure these on the truck with a load bar or straps.

Please Note: The above wooden products must not be stored outside because weather elements affect this material and they can become useless to WFSI .

CS1 Corner Pieces – Are to be returned in EMPTY BUTYL boxes only – UNLESS you have wooden skids in which case the corner pieces nest nicely inside of the skid. When returning corner pieces inside of empty butyl boxes, PLEASE make sure these cartons are marked and taped closed. You may stack these boxes six (6) high on a 4x4 skid and then they must be SHRINK WRAPPED together. If you use wooden skids to return material, please keep them separate from your empty skids so warehouse men know corner pieces are inside of them.

T400 Empty Totes – WFSI will only take back the PERKINS form oil tote. DO NOT return totes from SCC Admixtures; you are responsible to dispose of these.

U700A Metal Cover Racks – Make sure not to bend these racks. They can be stacked together as long as they are strapped or load locked in the trailer.

REMEMBER when loading your returns on your truck to please make sure to use load lock bars and straps to secure your load. The truck that picks up your load will usually have a load lock bar on it—please use this bar. DO NOT COUNT ON THE DRIVER TO LOCK YOUR LOAD DOWN .

Thank you for your attention.

Michigan First Responders Participate in Wilbert-Sponsored Training Program

In a joint effort between the Michigan Sheriffs Association and the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, more than 60 Michigan law enforcement officers and firefighters participated in an honor guard training program, held in Alpena, MI June 2-6.

Wilbert Funeral Services was a sponsor of the training program, which taught first responders proper flag etiquette and funeral protocols for laying to rest law officers and firefighters who die in the line of duty.

The participants learned proper funeral protocols such as the 21-gun salute, guarding the casket and color guard responsibilities. More than 30 agencies from across the state of Michigan sent participants to the program.

At the end of the week, the participants planned and executed a full funeral procession, including a parade of marked units, a firing party, flag folders and bagpipes.
