We are so fortunate to have the unwavering support of the communities we serve. You, our supporters, rally together to positively impact our friends and neighbors bringing our services to anyone in need. Ourwork is possible because of your support and collaboration – you are at the heart of what we do at HopeWest.

Last year alone, 1,300 HopeWest volunteers dedicated 81,000 hours of their time to our communities. Each and every volunteer is a vital member of our team and their gift of time is as unique as those who contribute.

Whether it is someone who brightens the day of customers as they shop at Heirlooms, someone who gives a caregiver a much needed break or our pet therapists who make patients smile with their furry friends – you contribute to making our mission possible.

Philanthropy is a big word but has a very simple meaning – to improve the wellbeing of humankind. It sounds like a pretty tall order, and it does in fact, take many people to affect a change.

Over the past 25 years, HopeWest has grown from caring for eight patients to more than 450 people every day. Other programs like Palliative Care helped 430 people last year and our grief support services touched more than 540 adults and 650 kids. All of this is accomplished because of the philanthropic values of our community.

phi·lan·thro·py[fi-lan-thruh-pea] noun: philanthropy1. The love of humanity, in the sense of caring and nourishing in both giving and receiving.

The reasons people give are unique to the person behind the gift and, more often than not, the reason is very personal. Because of that, the act of giving can make a difference both for the donor, as well as the mission of the organization.

Often, people think of someone wealthy when they think of a philanthropist, but anyone can give regardless of their income. Donations come to us in many ways – volunteering, donations to Heirlooms for Hospice, memorial tributes and gifts that people leave in their will. Another way people donate is through the Circle of Hope (our monthly giving club) through which small monthly donations add up over time.

Philanthropy exists in our every day world. Thank you for joining with others and making an impact on so many people’s lives.

Kids Get New Bears To SnuggleLong-time volunteer, Kathie Iles, delivered a bundle of bears to the HopeWest Kids Program to give grieving children and teens a way to remember their loved ones.

“HopeWest has always been near and dear to my heart,” said Kathie. “When I made these bears for my grandkids they were hugging them and talking to them – that’s what gave me the idea that HopeWest Kids should have these too.”

The HopeWest campus in Grand Junction was transformed into a musical journey for Itty Bitty camp in May.

Itty Bitty Camp was held for children between the ages of 5 – 8 who have experienced the death ofa loved one. Twenty children gathered for the camp with wide eyes unsure of what to expect. They soon felt at ease after being introduced to their volunteer buddy and taking part in the fun musical activities.

The campers, along with our expert counselors and volunteers, learned coping skills that will help them with their grief. What an exciting and beneficial day for all of those involved!

Camp is only possible with your continued support as we rely solely on philanthropy to provide this opportunity. More than 30 volunteers helped with the day and countless donations helped make it possible. Thank you for caring!

Delta Bob Tuttle, a Delta patient, made his famous “Bobitos” (breakfast burritos) as a special way to thank HopeWest for the care and support he and his wife have received.

“It’s just my way of saying thanks,” said Bob, HopeWest patient. “Super, super people – they are there when you need them and they treat you like an individual with my input and decisions. I just can’t say enough of you guys.”
