NEWS LETTER EMBASSY OF PAKISTAN JAKARTA OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2015 Indonesia concludes MoU on rice import from Pakistan Pakistan and Indonesia signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on rice import from Pakistan on 8 th December 2015. The MoU was signed by Indonesian Trade Minister Mr. Thomas Trikasih Lembong and Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia Mr. Mohammad Aqil Nadeem. Indonesian government will import up to 1 million metric ton of white rice from Pakistan from 2016 to 2019, which is estimated around 400 million USD. The G2G agreement will be implemented by BULOG (State Logistics Agency) from Indonesia and Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) from the Pakistani side. The import of rice will help Indonesian government’s efforts to replenish the rice stocks in view of current rice shortage due to severe drought. Indonesia has MOUs with Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar for rice imports already. Pakistan is the first country out of ASEAN region to have such agreement with Indonesian government. Both countries for the first time crossed US$ 2.2 billion mark of bilateral trade in year 2014. Pakistan and Indonesia have also concluded Preferential Trade Agreement in 2013 under which Indonesian exports to Pakistan increased manifold especially in crude palm oil. This import agreement will also help in removing the trade imbalance between the two countries. Indonesia concludes MoU on rice import from Pakistan

Pakistan and Indonesia signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on rice import from Pakistan on 8th December 2015. The MoU was signed by Indonesian Trade Minister Mr. Thomas Trikasih Lembong and Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia Mr. Mohammad Aqil Nadeem. Indonesian government will import up to 1 million metric ton of white rice from Pakistan from 2016 to 2019, which is estimated around 400 million USD. The G2G agreement will be implemented by BULOG (State Logistics Agency) from Indonesia and Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) from the Pakistani side. Meeting of Pakistan Ambassador with Governor of Jakarta

Ambassador Aqil Nadeem had meeting with Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama on 7th October 2015. Ambassador proposed bilateral visits of cultural troupe's, exchange visits for students and visits of officials to learn from each other, through Jakarta-Islamabad sister city agreement. He also appreciated the Governor for fast paced development work going on in Jakarta.

Meeting of Pakistan Ambassador with Indonesian Minister for Trade

Ambassador of Pakistan, Muhammad Aqil Nadeem had meeting with Indonesian Trade Minister Mr. Thomas Lembong, in his office at the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta on 9th October 2015. Ambassador told the Minster that Indonesia is very important trading partner of Pakistan. The bilateral trade crossed US $ 2 billion mark in 2014 but trade balance is heavily tilted in Indonesia’s favour. Specially, IP-PTA has benefitted Indonesia and Pakistan is importing 70% of palm oil from Indonesia after operationalization of PTA. But Pakistan exports have remained stagnant.

Therefore, some steps must be taken to reduce Pakistan’s trade deficit with Indonesia. He offered Indonesia to import rice, beef and other food commodities and textiles from Pakistan and also requested for recognition of Pakistan Halal Certification by Indonesia. Pakistan has requested for Review Meeting of Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement. Mr. Thomas Lembong responded that he believes in trade balance and would like to help in increasing Pakistan’s exports to Indonesia. Indonesia is keen to improve economic and trade relations with Pakistan and would look into possibility of imports of food commodities specially rice from Pakistan.

Ambassador appreciated Indonesian efforts for keeping the Bandung Spirit alive by organizing 60th anniversary of Asia Africa Summit in April 2015. Ambassador requested for removing Pakistan's name from "Calling Visa Countries" and requested for meeting of Joint Commission.

Visit of Pakistan Trade Delegations to Trade Expo

Indonesia 2015 Ambassador Aqil Nadeem hosted a dinner on 22 October 2015 in the Embassy for visiting Pakistani businessmen who attended 30th Trade Expo Indonesia. A strong contingent of 32 businessmen attended the annual event. The dinner was also attended by noted Indonesian business persons. The business exchanges would further strengthen our bilateral trade which reached $ 2.2 billion in calendar year 2014.

Pakistan participation in Cosmobeaute’ Indonesia 2015

Pakistan Embassy, Jakarta organised participation of Pakistani manufacturers of cosmetic / beauty products in Cosmobeaute’ Indonesia in Jakarta from 14-17th October 2015. Three Pakistani companies exhibited their products at Cosmobeaute’ Indonesia 2015 in which beauty instruments and flavours/ fragrances received good response. The exhibiting companies were M/s. Monza Impex, Sialkot, M/s. Micro Corporation, Sialkot and M/s. Synarome, Lahore. Pakistani companies were successful in negotiating with interested distributors.

Sial Interfood ASEAN 2015 was held at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Jakarta from 11-14th November 2015.Six Pakistani companies also exhibited their products at Sial Interfood ASEAN 2015 in which rice, halal gelatin, kinnow, potatoes, onions, received good response.

Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers

Third Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Jakarta from 29-30 October 2015. The Conference was opened by Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Pakistan delegation was led by Ambassador Aqil Nadeem.

Participation in Bali Democracy Forum

Government of Indonesia initiated in 2008, the intergovernmental Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) as an annual forum of foreign ministers from Asia-Pacific countries that are democratic or are aspiring to be more democratic. Ambassador Aqil Nadeem represented Pakistan in Bali Democracy Forum VIII held in Nusa Dua, Bali 10-11 December 2015.

Kashmir Black Day Observed

A Seminar was organised in Dewan Da'wah Islamiyah Jakarta on 28th October 2015 to observe Black Day to express solidarity with people of Kashmir. The largely attended Seminar was addressed by Ambassador Aqil Nadeem, Dr. Zahir and Col. Shahid followed by a question and answers session.

International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem

The International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem was held in Jakarta under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), under the theme “Addressing the present and shaping the future of Jerusalem” on 14 - 15th December 2015. On 16 December, at the same venue, the Committee held a United Nations Civil Society Forum on the subject of "Civil society action in support of justice

in Palestine and ending the occupation". Ambassador Aqil Nadeem along with the Embassy team represented Pakistan in the conference.

Cricket Promotion in Indonesia

A meeting was arranged by the British Ambassador in Jakarta Mr. Moazaam Malik on 15th December 2015 to discuss ways to promote Cricket in Indonesia. The meeting was attended by Chairman of Persatuan Cricket Indonesia (PCI) Mr Aziz Syamsudin and his team. Mr. Syamsudin is also Chairman of Commission III of DPR. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Aqil Nadeem and representatives of other Cricket playing nations.

New Asia-Africa Strategic Partnership (NAASP) Course

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged a one week New Asia Africa Strategic Partnership (NAASP) course in Jakarta (1-5th December 2015).
