During the first six months of 2009 the Indian GDP grew at a rate of about 6%. This was lower than the annual rate of 9% recorded during the five years between 2003 and 2008, but of relevance neverthe-less when observed in the context of international conditions. Thanks to the expansionistic fiscal policy adopted by the Indian Government since the second half of 2008, the impact of the financial crisis and its effect on internal demand has been less severe than in other countries. In the summer of 2009 the economy began to turn around, supported by a pickup in consum-ption fueled by both the growth of internal demand and by a general improvement of international com-merce. According to information obtained from the India Dossier (a report by the Economic Develop-ment Agency), the 2010 forecast is for an Indian GDP near 6.4%. In a market that is so dynamic and culturally close to Italy, Marzoli wants to strengthen its presence as a supplier of technology that is constantly evolving thanks in part to the contribution of the Indian market and our customers.

In India we are observing a tran-sformation of the textile sector. In addition to large capital in-vestments, a new generation of dynamic managers is leading the way toward change in an industry that for a long time was not open to automation or to high performance new generation textile equipment.Investors are expressing their pre-ference for automated electronic equipment because of its greater versatility, which allows yarn pro-ducers more flexibility in the pro-duction of small batches with a wide range of yarn counts. These characteristics, which are intrinsic in Marzoli’s products, have made the successful entry in the market possible and continue to facilitate the sale of spinning sections and complete plants.Markets —including India— conti-nue to recognize the excellence of Marzoli machinery, in particular the combing section (CM600N mo-del) and spinning section (roving and spinning frames with doffing system FTSN, FTSDN, MP1N, MPTN) because of the innovation introduced by our R&D depart-ment. The symposiums recently

held in India have confirmed, both in terms of attendance and in the caliber of the attendees, a great interest and satisfaction in our ma-chinery and in the technological so-lutions presented.

Marzoli’s staff together with our agents Eastern Engineering Co. -Jeevan Udyog, 278 dr N Road, Mumbai (Mr. Anand) and Ergo G2 Engineers - Y9 (New nr. 77) 5th Main Road, Anna Nagar Chennai (Mr. Naresh), would like to take ad-vantage of all available opportuni-ties to satisfy the technological ne-eds of this market. Mindful of our common past, we strive to retrace old customs and traditions of frien-dship and closeness.

The South American country overcomes the crisis and con-quers a spot among the economic powers. In a general contest of economic crisis that shook up the giants of global commerce and international finance, the old equilibrium was transformed and the whole econo-mic system has to be recalibrated. The earthquake that disrupted the world actually provided the ideal scenario for the emergence of new countries that, when traditional po-wers faltered, had the opportunity to earn international importance. For business this is the time when they should evaluate opportunities for investments and commercial action abroad in conjunction with forecasted developments in emer-ging markets.

An important example of this is Brazil, which is exiting from the crisis faster and stronger that the main European countries. The me-rit goes to the government and its investment supporting policies, and to the strong banking system that has always limited its exposure to international finance, therefo-re maintaining a high trust level from investors, either from Brazil or abroad (Bovespa index +52% in 2009).Currently, this beacon Country of South America is going through a period of strong growth, which has caused the local businesses to start considering the possibility of investments in automated plants. Also, in support to this situation is the Brazilian market structure, which has a high number of young entrepreneurs with confidence in the future. The confirmation that Brazil eco-

nomy has entered a positive chap-ter comes from the estimates of the International Monetary Fund. Brazil’s GDP should grow 3.5% in 2010, and maintain the same growth rate also in 2011. A positive trend that it shares with other po-wers such as China and India and that casts a shadow on the 2010 forecasts of 1.5% of United States and Russia or even lower rates for France, Italy and Germany. In this context, investments in tex-tile machinery also show a positive trend and Marzoli is present with a sales network, quality equipment, and ties to the opinion leaders of the textile industry, ready to take advantage of all the opportunities.

A new development in quality spinning by Marzoli.Marzoli’s guiding principle has always been to be responsive to cu-stomer’s needs and to contribute to their pursuit of excellence in yarn production. This belief has driven the company’s investments to the le-vels of world leaders in quality spin-ning.For this reason Marzoli’s goal is not only to build excellent textile machi-nery, but also to continually improve yarn quality.Karl Popper stated that every solu-tion of a problem raises new unsol-ved problems that should be resolved until the attainment of excellence. The R&D department made of this principle its own. To solve problems, to establish new standards, to excel over everyone, to conquer every goal: this is Marzoli’s doctrine. It is with this spirit that we intro-duced the new concept of drafting zone on the new MP series spinning frame: the Marzoli Arco Bridge (pa-tent pending). For a long time the drafting zone was stuck in the classic double belt, with short cradle and conventional nose bar, but thanks to the efforts of Marzoli R&D this so-lution was improved and surpassed with excellent quality results thanks to the Arco Bridge device. The Mar-zoli Arco Bridge is made of a bridge with a special arching section and with a cradle that is longer and of a different shape than the standard one. With this new solution the control of the fibers in the drafting zone takes place gradually in one stage and not tow like the old conventional nose bar. The special arching section of the new bridge, together with the modified shape of the cradle allow a perfect progressive control of the fibers in the drafting zone. The focal point is therefore the position and the shape of the terminal part of the cradle. The fibers at the end of the bridge are not released but remain in contact with the beak-shaped part at end of the cradle. This way they are controlled and escorted to the nipper zone of the first cylinder. This way we

achieve superior control of the short fibers. The result is a slight improve-ment of the CV values and of all of the other IP, in particular Thin and Thick places were reduced over 50%.The qualitative advantages of the Arco Bridge are especially obvious on combed cotton, carded cotton and cotton blends yarns with mid to thin titles between Ne 30 and Ne60.On Table 1 we show a comparison of a combed yarn Ne40 produced on a spinning frame with a standard draf-ting zone and on one with Arco Brid-ge. The data shows without shadow of a doubt that starting with a high quality yarn with Uster Statistic va-lues under 10%, the results were im-proved dramatically with the use of the Arco Bridge.

In the next Tables, we charted the values to really display the reduction between the standard and the Arco Bridge (In figure 3 the values are ex-pressed in percentages).

This innovative system cannot be ignored for high quality yarns. The Arco Bridge is a simple device, re-liable and without additional main-tenance costs. The Arco Bridge is a perfect match for the Marzoli arm MT1, or it can also be applied to the Texparts arm series 2000 and 2100, by using the special Marzoli cradle.

Being self-critical and rigorous are the first steps towards building a competitive advantage that is solid and long-lasting. For this reason Marzoli constantly strives to im-prove the performance of its equi-pment without resting to benefit from the successes already achie-ved. An example of this is the new version of the Fancy Yarn system, which has been and continues to be one of the main components of the Marzoli product line for the last ten years. Fancy Yarn was born to fill the growing demand for fancy and slub yarns, especially for de-nim fabrics. About ten years ago, Marzoli acknowledged the mar-ket call for it and was the first to produce a slub device that was me-chanically and electronically inte-grated in the spinning frame. Since then, Fancy Yarn has been the top of the integrated slub device in the market.Marzoli’s integrated slub device is the only one that can work in perfect harmony with the machine,

guaranteeing excellent quality and performance without jeopardizing the mechanical integrity of the spinning frame (these innovative electronic and mechanical solu-tions have been patented). One of Marzoli’s principles is to continually improve the current results however brilliant. Therefo-re, Marzoli carried out a extensive study in conjunction with some of the most prestigious denim pro-ducers (TRC Candiani, Italdenim, Textil Canatiba). The results were successful: Fancy Yarn was further improved with new types of slubs, making it more versatile and closer to the ever changing needs of Mar-zoli’s customers.

Thanks to independent motors draft and to high performance elec-tronics, Marzoli Fancy Yarn can produce yarn with infinite types of slubs (multitwist and multicount) with the possibility of combining them according to a number of re-cipes. For example, a multicount yarn, for each count produced, can be applied to a different recipe of slub. Table 1 summarizes the main options and possible combina-tions. Its performance on Marzo-li’s spinning frame cannot be sur-passed by any other integrated slub device. These results are obtained without compromising the quality of the slub or the yarn strength. In fact, the acceleration and de-

celeration ramps on the motors have curves sinusoidals and can be separately set up. Thanks to two important features, thin and weak areas are avoided, especially at the end of the deceleration, producing a yarn with above average resistan-ce and strength. The new dedicated electronic and mechanical features allow motor accelerations of a few hundreds of a second, which produce slubs with diameter of +50% lower than 20mm at a respectable working speed.

Among the many features of the Marzoli Fancy Yarn, we point out the following:• Simple and immediate inter-

face with values expressed in millimetres and percentages.

• Automatic visualization of the graph relative to the slub re-cipe to verify the correct exe-cution.

• Automatic control of the slubs characteristics.

• 500 rows for 500 different slubs in a single recipe.

• Possibility to record and store up to 10,000 different reci-pes.

• Multiplier for up to five times the nominal diameter.

The advantage of the integrated Marzoli slub device is that its de-velopment is integrated with the

development of the spinning fra-me and all the engineering is made around this very important device that Marzoli offers on over 30% of its machines. The coordination between the research and deve-lopment of the spinning frame and the slub device, have allowed the realization of a simple device that is reliable and offers very high per-formance (patent pending).

“Identifique-se” is the name of the next Spring-Summer 2010 collec-tion of Texile Canatiba that will promote a new way to express one’s identity through fashion, aesthetic qualities, and accessories. Inspired by the major international tren-ds, Canatiba studies and develops cutting-edge Brazilian products by combining Premium Denim™ and Megaflex™. This innovative fabric is made of elastane that, thanks to its stretching qualities, provides a comfortable fit and freedom of mo-vement. All of this is also the result of technological research driven by the customers’ needs and desires, which has always been Canatiba’s guiding principle.Premium Denim™ and Megaflex™ have been produced since 2003 next to numerous other successful products created under the leader-ship of Mr. Romeu Covolan, owner of Canatiba. The company was formed in 1969 in San Paulo, but it began its un-stoppable growth around the end of the Seventies, when under the management of Mr. Covolan it was transformed into one of the largest industrial groups in Brazil. During the Eighties, through a steadfast strategy of growth and moderniza-tion the Canatiba brand grew ex-ponentially in Brazil. The growth continued in the Nineties when en-vironmental responsibility became of greater importance. In the last forty years, Canatiba has become a recognized brand of great value, whose position among the top global brands is strong and unquestioned. Canatiba production is one of the largest in the country. In 2009 it exceeded seventy million

linear meters per year, with three hundred different types of denim.Texile Canatiba success is the result of Mr. Covolan’s strategic choices that have always been based on his constant pursuit for technology and product quality. The excellence goal was also reached thanks to the un-beatable efficiency and reliability of Marzoli’s equipment.Without a doubt, establishing good relationships with the suppliers, especially of technology, represents an important step towards the at-tainment of a stable competitive advantage. Marzoli has always been synonym of energy savings, high yarn quality, and production flexibility. All these qualities have resulted from the synergies achie-ved when both the supplier and the customer are sharing their pro-blems and their needs and the sati-sfactions of their accomplishments. In fact, Marzoli stands side-by-side with Canatiba in the research for highly innovative fabrics, co-operating through the office of re-search and development, because Canatiba’s way of business is “to create fashion and not follow the marketplace”.Canatiba strongly believes in the importance of marketing to sup-port a successful launch of new collections and new fabrics. Shows, events, and media programming are key to give the right value to the high yarn quality and to the ability of the company to anticipate fashion trends.

Canatiba is a strong and dynamic organization that has established itself in a difficult market, demon-strating how the ability to innovate and to seize upon the requirements of the market are fundamental to achieve sustainable success. For this Marzoli has been and continues to be the ideal partner.
