Asbestos - which was used extensively in

building materials in the past but is now

banned - is considered safe unless damaged

or in poor condition.

The new labels form part of a comprehensive

program to ensure Victorian government

schools remain safe.

Children’s safety is our number one priority.

That is why we are taking this extra step as a

precaution. School Council Meeting

The next meeting of the School Council will be

on Wednesday 27th May at 6:30pm. Athletic Sports

Our Athletic Sports will be held on Tuesday 4th

August. Uniform

The weather has been cooler recently and

students need to dress appropriately. Please

make sure that your child wears correct

uniform to school each day, this includes

jumpers. Penni spent a couple of hours sorting

out the lost property box and table last week.

All named items of clothing were returned to

their owners. Remember to name ALL items of

clothing. Prep 2016 Enrolments

If you have a child who will be starting Prep in

2016 we are now accepting enrolments.

Please contact the office to arrange a tour of

the school. Enrolment packs are available at

the office. Facebook

Our ‘likes’ on our Facebook page continue to

grow. Facebook is another way that you can

find out what is happening at school. Photo Fundraiser

Over the weekend families had their photos

taken. Our school will receive a percentage of

the sales of these photos. Thanks to Steph

Flentjar for the coordination of this fundraiser. Garden Seats

We have purchased a number of garden seats

from Bunnings. These have been placed

around the school for the use of students and

parents.

1F’s Vegie Garden

This term in Inquiry we have been learning about

veggie gardens and how vegetables grow. We have

been busy shovelling dirt into our garden bed,

planting plants and keeping them well watered. We

fertilise our plants with our rich worm juice from our

worm farm (where our worms have been extremely busy on a daily basis). The

students have loved being outdoors, getting their hands dirty and having the

responsibility of looking after the outdoor area.

In our vegie garden we have:

broccoli

cauliflower

cabbage

peas

You may even like to plant some seasonal

vegetables at home. Some vegies in season are:

beans

cauliflower

garlic

broccoli

carrot

kale

cabbage

peas

onions

leeks

silverbeet

rocket

sport teacher. They came to teach us sport. They

taught us soccer, footy and netball. We learnt to

work together.’ Amelia

‘It is interesting when they taught us netball and

soccer. It was fun because we got to learn how to

play it properly.’ Jones

‘The boys taught us how to kick the footy properly. I

was really hard!’ Harper

P.E. with Mrs Bronson Over the last few weeks in Physical Education and in Health we have

continued to focus on fitness and in particular students improving their

own individual fitness. Students from Prep and Year 1 have been using a

pre-set fitness circuit as part of their regular PE session. Year 2 students

have looked at what fitness activities they do and where they can find

different sporting activities within the Sunraysia region. The Year 3

students have been looking at what activities they do during their day

and classifying them as active or not active. While the Year 4, 5 & 6

students are starting to have a go at designing, creating and leading

their own fitness circuits. Some of the components of fitness involved in

the circuits include; agility, speed, flexibility, local muscular endurance,

coordination, power, strength, balance and cardiovascular endurance.

The Year 3 to 6 classes have also been focusing on developing the ball

handling skills involved in the winter sports of football, soccer, netball and

rugby.

The Year 2 students have been extending their Fundamental Motor Skills

of kicking, throwing and catching and incorporating these skills into

game situations.

The Prep and Year 1 students have been working on the locomotion skills

of dodging and leaping and have also been introduced to tracking,

trapping and catching balls of various sizes, shapes and hardness.

Preps and Grade 1s have participated in Health sessions where we have

looked at identifying the parts of the body.

CONCERT 2015 Firstly, a little bit of concert information for our new families. We have our school concert every

second year. This year there will be two night performances on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday

19th of August at the Mildura Arts Centre. We will also have a full dress rehearsal on Tuesday 18th

at the Arts Centre. Each child will be in at least 2 items, which means they will require two

costumes. Tickets will be on sale closer to the date.

I would like to congratulate the grade 5/6 students who auditioned for concert acting roles. Mr

Smith, Mrs Vadlja and I were blown away last Tuesday, as 28 students auditioned for 9 roles. All

students showed great confidence and dedication in committing to the process. I’m yet to

meet with Karen Wilcock to see if there are any more roles that could be given to some of the

other students that auditioned. These roles could include being dance leaders for the infants.

Huge congratulations to the following grade 5/6 students for the roles they were given:

Mckensie Wade: Main character

Ruby Cashin: Main character’s friend

Lainie Black: Main character’s friend

Shari Brown: Main character’s friend

Maria Petrolo: Main character’s Mum

Bethany Hartwig: Narrator

Zali Doolan: Narrator

Chris D’Amico: Narrator

Tommy McGlashan: Extra speaking role

Students will begin rehearsals for our school concert in week 9 and will continue right up until the

concert in week 6 of Term 2. Karen Willcock will be working with the students to teach them their

class items. We are very excited to have her leading our concert again this year.

I would like to start planning each class’ costumes, so I will need 2 parent helpers for each class.

If you think you could help with this please read below, fill out the form and bring it back to Mrs

Milne or the office. In the last week of this term I’d like to meet with the class costume

coordinators.

Costume coordinators- I am looking for two costume coordinators for each classroom. This is

not a scary position, however it may require some of the following tasks- labelling and

checking off costumes for your class, planning/organising any costume working bees,

and helping me with any purchases for your class. You do not have to know how to sew!

If you think you are able to help, please fill in the form below and return it to Mrs Milne or

the office.

Hanging racks- We will also need a hanging rack for each classroom’s costumes, if you have

one at home that you are happy to loan us please let us know.

CONCERT COSTUME COORDINATOR

I would love to be a Concert Costume Coordinator!

the Aerodrome Ovals. Students competed in 9/10 year old boys and girls (2 kilometres), 11 year old boys

and girls (3 kilometres) and 12+ year old boys and girls (3 kilometres). ALL students preformed extremely

well representing their school not only with their running ability but also with their good sportsmanship and

behaviour. Every student who competed for our school completed the event.

We had some outstanding performances on the day with ten of our students in the top ten place getters

for their race. These students will progress onto the Loddon Mallee Regional Cross Country Championships

Samuel Hayes, Bethany Hartwig, Lily Neagle, Will Mitchem, Patrick McWilliams, Meg Neagle and Eva Black
