[IEAnewreport]TheFutureofcoolinginSoutheastAsiaSpacecoolingisthefastest-growinguseofenergyinbuildingsgloballyandinSoutheastAsia.Electricityuseforcoolinginbuildingsacrosstheregionhasincreaseddramaticallyoverpastdecades.Yettoday,only15%ofhouseholdsinSoutheastAsiahaveanairconditioner,indicatingsignificantpotentialforfurthergrowthinmajormarkets.

Efficientspacecoolingdoesn’tdependonACsalone,efficientbuildingdesignwouldbecrucialtopreservethegainsofefficientACunits.Buildingenvelopeimprovements,enforcedthroughcodes,standards,andmandatoryretrofitswouldhelpinensuringthatbuildingsbecomeefficientaswell.
