PROFILE…Remi Landry, P.Eng.President, Toronto Railway Club

A New Brunswick native, Remi grew up in Grande Anse, a small town on Chaleur Bay be-tween Bathurst and Caraquet, NB. He attended the University of Moncton where he obtained a Civil Engineering degree.

Following his graduation in 2004, Remi joined CN Rail in Montreal as an Engineer-ing Supervisor working on a variety of projects. Later during that same year Remi was relocated to Toronto where he kept working across Eastern Canada in their Engi-neering Department as well as gaining experience in the Transportation Department.Remi left CN at the end of 2007 and subsequently spent a few months with the MMM Group – Marshall Macklin Monahan, a major Canadian engineering and project management firm. In March 2008, he joined The Toronto Terminals Railway Company Limited (TTR) as Manager of Rail Operations. In June 2009, he was pro-moted to Assistant Director of Operations, and in March 2011, was promoted again to Director of Operations.April this year was an especially big month for Remi! He married his fiancée, Cyn-thia at a beach resort in Cuba, and in the same month joined GO Transit as Chief of Rail Operations. Remi and his wife Cynthia reside in Toronto. In his spare time, Remi is an avid golfer and during his youth and at university, played a lot of hockey up to and including AAA level. As President this year, Remi has continued the work of his predecessors to modernize the Club and bring it up to new business and social levels.“While membership has been stable for the past few years,” he said, “we need to keep working hard at promoting events and activities to maintain and grow our membership. The Toronto Railway Club is an excellent opportunity for networking and for keeping abreast of new processes and technologies impacting the railway industry.”

MAY LUNCHEON MEETING

(Left) guest speaker at the May 5th luncheon meeting Chuck Donohue, Executive Director, Facilities Management Division, City of Toronto, gave members and guests a very informative Powerpoint presentation on the progress of the Union Station revamping. Some photos are reproduced below.Chuck pointed out that twice as many passengers annually use Union compared to Pearson airport and that GO Transit passenger numbers, currently 43 million, will double over the next 20 years. In addition to GO, 20 million TTC subway pas-sengers and 2.4 million VIA passengers use Union every year.Expansion beneath Union will enable the GO concourse to expand from the current 30,000 sq. ft. to 110,000 sq. ft. while commercial real estate space will grow from 35,000 sq. ft. to a proposed 153,000 sq. ft.

(Top photo): shows how the track level is being supported by temporary columns during construction of the new transit concourse and pedestrian retail level underneath the station.(Middle photo): artist’s conception of the new GO Transit glass atrium train shed.(Photo right): guest speaker Chuck Donohue is thanked by the Toronto Railway Club’s First Vice-President Bernie Maskerine following Chuck’s presentation.
