News + Events for International & New Canadian Students at NSCCSeptember 2016

Welcome to the first edition of our monthly newsletter for international & New Canadian students at NSCC! We will share news, events and information on NSCC events and activities of interest to you. Around the middle of each month, our newsletter will hit your inbox and be posted on our website and Facebook page. Orientation:International & New Canadian Student Orientations took place on Thursday, September 1 at NSCC campuses across the province. Approxi-mately 70 students from over 20 countries participated in this year’s orientations, which provided a warm welcome and gave students a chance

to meet other students, staff and faculty, explore the campus and ask ques-tions before classes started. Many thanks to the Student Services staff who coordinated each campus orientation and to the student and staff volunteers who made the day a success!

Mayor’s Reception:On September 10, Mayor Mike Savage hosted his annual reception for new international students studying at universities and colleges in Halifax. The welcoming event was held at the Halifax Central Library. Students were treated to refreshments, information on local services and events, a wonder-ful dance performance and instruction by The Woods, lots of great swag and prizes and a chance to meet and connect with each other. We are very proud of NSCC Waterfront student Jennie Cyril

– a 2nd year Radio & Television Arts student from The Bahamas, who was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. She wowed us with her enthusiasm and made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable.
