MP acts to boost Enterprise Zone bidAidan has stepped up efforts to try and get an Enterprise Zonelocated in Cannock Chase.Aidan has already spoken with local businesses and has recentlybeen in contact with senior representatives from Birmingham CityCouncil, who are key players in the Birmingham and Solihull LocalEnterprise Partnership (LEP), which is helping write the bid for theZone, which will be submitted to the Department for Business,

Innovation and Skills. Members of Aidan's team have also attendedmeetings of the LEP to help shape the bid.Taking this one stage further, he is now seeking to organise ameeting between all the major players to discuss and drive forwardthe application.Under the proposals that are being developed there would be an"Enterprise Belt" of several Enterprise Zones across Staffordshire, one of which would incorporate Cannock Chase.Enterprise Zones were announced in the March Budget with plansto establish 21 across England that will seek to stimulate investment

through tax breaks, reduced planning restrictions and "superfast"broadband. The first 10 of these Zones will be located in the tenmajor cities with the remaining 11 Zones available for bidding byLocal Enterprise Partnerships.Commenting Aidan said: "It's important that the Cannock element ofthe 'Enterprise Belt' submission is as strong as possible. That way ifthe 'belt' idea is rejected, the Cannock element of it could still beconsidered on its own merits."I have long thought that Kingswood Lakeside on Orbital Way wouldmake an excellent Enterprise Zone location, and have offered my

assistance to Cannock Chase District Council to work with theirofficers to make the bid as strong as possible."

Weve already cut tax for 1,990,000in West MidlandsNew figures show that the Government has cut income tax for1,990,000 people across the West Midlands, resulting in 71,000 ofthe lowest paid being taken out of tax altogether. Across the country,

22.6 million people have had an income tax cut worth 200 this year, and 830,000 have been taken out of tax altogether. The increase in the income tax personal allowance of 1,000,announced at the June 2010 Budget, came into effect last monthand means that basic rate taxpayers are 200 a year better off. Andnext year's personal allowance increase of 630, will benefit afurther 2,140,000 people in the West Midlands by 126 a year, andtake a further 25,000 people in the region out of tax.Commenting, Aidan said: "I welcome the fact that this year alone, thanks to Government action, almost two million people in the WestMidlands are paying 200 less income tax this year, and 71,000 ofthe lowest paid in this region have been taken out of tax altogether."We know that times are tough for families across the country, andso it is also important to lift people out of the income tax system andallow them to keep more of their hard-earned money."

Aidan in the papers:Week in Westminster

    Chase PostThursday 26th May 2011

Last week I hosted my first ever'Westminster Hall debate' on thesubject of the cost of policing ofPremiership football matches. For those not familiar with the intricate workings of Parliament,Westminster Hall is a smaller separate debating chamber locatedinside the historic 11th century Westminster Hall. These debatescarry the same weight as any those in the main Chamber and

enables backbenches to scrutinise the government on topicsimportant to them and their constituents. A Government Minister hasto reply to the debate.I chose my topic because at present, Premiership football clubs onlypay for the policing costs inside and immediately outside theirgrounds. However, the police, and therefore the taxpayer, are stilllosing out to the tune of millions of pounds a year due to theconsequential costs of policing away from the grounds on a matchday. This includes the extra police we all see at the train stations, town centres, pubs and clubs and other public areas.I do not see how it is fair that taxpayers are footing this extra bill, which in the 2009/10 season was estimated at 722,232 for theWest Midlands alone. Nationwide, the shortfall is estimated to beover 25m, a sum easily affordable by Premiership Clubs who paytheir players up to 10 million a year in wages. Why should the taxpayer continue to subsidise this very wealthy industry? On Friday I welcomed Government Whip Rt. Hon. Mark Francois MPto Briggs International in Cannock as part of its 'Freaky Friday'charity day. His visit delivered on a promise made during theelection, namely to visit them again if I became their new MP. Thestaff were clearly impressed by a politician who kept his word andin the process we helped raise money for Dogs for the Disabled.

Mark even drove a forklift truck a new experience for the ViceChamberlain of HM Household!
